i think the intonation won't be right or the tuning stability will be less the way you put the battery or else convert it to hard tail bridge

@@AaronJohnProduction Thanks for the comment. I won't be using the whammy bar. The bridge is blocked from moving and the scale length of the guitar remains the same, so intonation is unaffected.

Curious why you went with noiseless ‘single coils’
@megustaguitarguy
@megustaguitarguy 23 күн бұрын
its because the mid boost circuit is a 25db boost (quite big boost) and this would amplify the single coil hum to a really high level - plus Clapton uses the noiseless in his strat

I see someone else replied to this as well. Yes, the need to keep hum to a minimum and the fact that my budget is low is why I haven't got something like Fender noiseless, Lace sensors etc... Actually I'm having issues with these budget pickups, which I'll mention in one of the following parts. I've hit a few snags along the way, so this project has slowed for a while. Still part 3 is ready to be posted soon in the meantime.

Nothing wrong with the SX guitars. I had a strat which was pretty good for the money, and I bought an SX P-Bass copy over 10 years ago, which is very good, and I still have it. You're right about the hardware, it is built to a budget, but it is completely useable as is. I work as a guitar tech, and I've had a few SX's come in, and they come up very well every time.

I have an old black sx tele from the 90s, which has a proper tele headstock - they had to change it further down the line. It's a great build and, like your strat, the neck is absolutely superb - just the right amount of chunky. Pickups aren't that bad either

Why not just buy a MIM Fender deluxe Powerhouse Strat? All you have to do is snip off the tone cap then it's exactly like the Clapton thing, including the dummy pup for the noise cancelling feature that works brilliantly. Genuine Fender parts including Tex Mex pups! You can pick up a used one for something like US$350. Without the dumb looking hook head.

Thanks for the comment. I did install a Fender branded hi-mass bridge and an affordable alnico V pickup. That lasted a couple of years and now it has Labella flatwounds and the original bridge back on (I prefer the look) and I kept the alnico V pickup in there. I also got a black pickguard for it. I love that look. I would love the look even more if it had a maple fretboard.

Your review videos convinced me. Mine arrived an hour or so ago. Came out of the box perfectly fine. I have to say that the frets and fret edges were pretty close to the same level of finish as my Charvel SoCal guitar. I don’t know if that’s a big positive for Squire or a big negative for Charvel. 😂 This bass 100% can be used for playing along with Iron Maiden. 🤘 I think I will put a set of slightly heavier short scale strings on it, a hipshot KH bridge. I’d like a little more tension on the low E. It’s super fun. 👍
@RobCmusic
@RobCmusic 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Yes the added tension does improve the feel a little bit. I've now settled on a set of Labella flatwounds on my mini-P. They make a set specifically for this scale length and the tension is just right for me.

Very cool, pretty funky for a white guy...hahahaha...I did notice that most of your pluckin' was on the E, A and D strings, hitting the B very rarely. Is that just this tune, do you have a video of pluckin' that B more? I am a newbie just picked a bass up a couple months ago, I am a retired professional drummer from L.A. 40+ years, and after over 20 surgeries, mostly on both feet and lower back, my drums are harder and harder to play. I have always dug the bass, hear every bass line no matter the genre and I am diggin' learning how to play it, funky and sexy...hahaha...

I did try that although it was almost impossible with the soldering iron I had at the time as it was a bit big to get in there accurately. However the pedal stopped working completely a few months later, so maybe there was more to the problem anyway.

As far as I understand the Pulse impulse loaders is specifically geared towards very very short cab impulse responses, not suitable for reverb impulse responses. Have you tried using a different impulse loader? For example in Pro Tools there is Avid Space and Convology is a great third-party option.
@RobCmusic
@RobCmusic 10 ай бұрын
Hey thanks for the comment. I just checked out Convology. Great that there is a free one available for Protools. I didn't stop to think that Pulse would be optimised for cab IRs. You were spot on though. It did sound a lot better when I loaded my DIY verb into Convology. It's still not that great to be honest, but that's more down my very slap-dash way of creating the IR in the first place! Thanks for the tip.

The line out is ok. I don't generally use it at home because I use my iso cab and the IR loader. I have used the line out at a band rehearsal and it seemed to sound much better when played at a higher volume and in the context of the band mix, so I imagine it'll actually work pretty well on stage at gig volume. I will at some point try that out.

Just saw the SB Uk you did which imoressed me. This sounds fantastic too shelf mate. Which amp do you prefer is the US got more headroom better suited fir pedals? Cheers
@RobCmusic
@RobCmusic 11 ай бұрын
I can't decide between the two, which is why I'm glad I have both. IMO US is not quite as loud, but there's very little in it (it has slightly less gain, at least that the JMP model of the UK). Both amps take pedals equally as well, but each amp takes certain pedals better than the other and vice versa. You'll likely still have a journey ahead of you to find out which pedals really work for your rig. I use the '57 voice of the US the most, which is similar to the JMP of the UK, but less bright and a little cleaner. The '57 voice may possibly be my favourite of all the voices available from both amps, but depending on how I feel on any given day, that changes too!

I'm so close to buying a SB UK, how is it for volume live? Great sounding pedal board to fair play.
@RobCmusic
@RobCmusic 11 ай бұрын
It is very capable, volume wise, but I would recommend a speaker of a higher sensitivity to ensure you'll be loud enough in certain situations. E.g. a 100dB. It depends on how far you are from the speaker cab yourself. I play with the gain pretty high, so I don't go that clean. If you like the amp to stay clean then you might sometimes struggle with enough volume. However, I would say that this is comparable with a Deluxe Reverb in terms of volume. My new band often plays with an electronic drumkit, which is very quiet on stage... obviously. We played the first gig the other week and I was able to run the amp at 1w from the pedalboard supply with master at 1 o'clock. Plenty loud enough to hear myself on stage. (That was a Superblock US, which is not quite as loud as the UK IMO).
