Just so you know, when Eric Clapton was asked in an interview, "What does it feel like to be the Best lead guitarist of all time.?" His response was, "I don't know, you have to ask Prince!" RESPECT!!! When Prince passed the Entire World went Purple!!! #ThePurpleOne #PrinceRogersNelson #nothingCompares2U #HisRoyalBadness

Same brother, its the only thing that has brought me true peace and pure distilled euphoria without the need for something else. That something else is a fickle sonovabitch at BEST and at worst it drown the soul. Us musicians are very drawn to it, take care my friend.

But Clapton, master blues mannerist in his own right, can shut down any detractors by reminding them that Mr Hendrix only agreed to come to England on the condition that he be introduced to Clapton a and Beck. Make no mistake Hendrix's talent, playing, composing, lyrics, performing, soul are still without peer but, how many other people can say "Jimi Hendrix" insisted on meeting me.

O shit 👏👏hitting the deep dive on this one, I've heard this theory on Jimi's death: It's hard to be certain about the facts, especially since it was so long ago. Shit we are discussing events that happened 54 years ago. Even if people that found Hendrix, were truthful and just wanted to do their job right. They were limited by the times, I mean shit they didn't even have DNA or nothing yet. There's a lot of sketchy details around the girls statements, and his death in general.

You're right to suspect Jeffery in the demise of Hendrix. HOWEVER, Hendrix was no angel or child when it came to drugs. Jimi always took way more drugs (in quantity) than his friends ever dared (kinda like Keith Moon was doing) & he was using HERION by this time. Eric Burden/The Animals had stated that Hendrix was going off the rails around this time-hitting/beating some of his girlfriends when they would confront him about his INFIDELITY.

Sacrifice is essential and inevitable. There is no greatness without pain. In years to come, this will be your "The One That Got Away" story. Every musician has a One That Got Away story. But I got them all beat In 1983 I was hired for a session at a recording studio in New York City that has long since gone out of business. For the session, I played through a raggedy old Sunn stack they had in the studio. After the session, as I was ready to leave, the owner took me into the studio and turned the amp around,. Stenciled on the back were words that froze me in my tracks: "Jimi Hendrix Experience. Handle With Care." My jaw hit the floor. Apparently, Hendrix gave some amps to Leslie West. The guy who owned the studio was a former roadie with Mountain, and got one of them. A year later, I had the chance to buy it when I heard the owner was liquidating his stuff. But, being a penniless and destitute musician trying to survive 80s era New York City (a truly brutal place at the time), I had no money, so I couldn't buy it. About seven or eight years ago, I learned that somebody bought it for $150,000. That's my big "The One That Got Away" story. But, I played out of one of Jimi's amps! Not many can say the same!

I'm acquainted with Juma Sultan, one of the percussionists who played with Hendrix at that gig. I was told that playing the national anthem was not planned or rehearsed. Hendrix just thought it up in the moment and did it (the guys in tyhe band were like "What's Jimi doing??"). I also knew a few people who were in the audience. They said the people were just staring at him in utter disbelief. I've also spoken to military veterans who said that this is exactly what a war zone sounds like. I was 11 years old in 1972. I was already a Hendrix fan, but at the time, I'd never seen a video of him. I snuck into a theater a=to see Woodstock. After three hours of the movie (and a lot of greta music), Hendrix came on and did this. I was blown away! I never imagined that music could have this kind of power. Nothing like it had ever existed before. To this day, I still get chills when I hear it. You mentioned the symbolism. At the apex of a celebration of peace and love, Hendrix played the most violent rendition of the Star Spangled Banner possible. It reminded everyone that when their idylic party ended, a savage and atavistic world awaited them. At. the same time, Hendrix stood on the world's stage, looked the most powerful nation on earth in the eye and said "You broke your covenant with God and your people." The thing he did on guitar can be learned and recreated (almost), but nobody can hold the significant weight of that statement. This belongs to nobody but Jimi Hendrix. A few FYIs. He didn't open with the SSB. This was near the end of his set. Videos of acceptable camera angles exist. You cna find them with no problem. Also, there were a lot of delays. Hendrix was the headliner and not only insisted upon closing the festival, nobody in their right mind would go on after him. Plus, this kind of music festival was unprecedented. They didn't know what they were doing; they were writing their own rules and brekaing them as they went along. To top it off, about 100,000 people more than were anticipated showed up. It was a disaster, and beautiful at the same time.

I saw Zappa live three times. The last time was in my hometown, Miwlaukee, WI. The drummer and bass player came on statge and started a groove. One by one, the other band members came on and joined, and got something really nice going, getting heavier. Then Zappa came on, walked to the front of the stage and started playing an absolutely face melting guitar solo! The band was pushing him and his solo was getting more and more intense. Then suddenly, BAM! Everyone except the drums and bass laid out, the groove was still there, but it was real quiet. Then Zappa goes up to the mic and says "Hi there!" The crowd went nust. He said "My name is Frank. And this is my hobby!" The crowd went bonkers. This is how he began the show.
