First of all, let me say that I think your reaction to the Beatles song was by far the most astute, observation and best I’ve seen of all the Beatles reactions videos. You brought up stuff that no one else had and I was super impressed that at your age, you would catch those things. I think the younger generation cannot realize just how pivotal the Beatles were. There is no other band we’re pretty much everyone can name all the members of the band. Nora Sarah band that is loved by all generations all the way down to teenage years and earlier. when people list others as their favorite, I think it’s because we were so used to hearing the Beatles but if we’ve never heard them before we’d be blown away. I’m still an emotional wreck from the song and then the video later. It would’ve been really cool to see your reaction to the music video as well. Thank you again, guys. I look forward to listen to the rest of this.

I am so seriously impressed at this conversation and your depth of knowledge about the Beatles. If I may, let me add a few extra thoughts here. One is that one of the things actually, save led George Harrison from the initial stabs was the fact that he had just written some music and folded up the lyrics into folded package of papers next to his chest and the knife hit that which then blunted the force of the stabs so it didn’t penetrate his lungs or heart. So, literally, If he hadn’t had his music, he would’ve for sure died. Isn’t that a wild thought? I’m really glad that you didn’t gloss over the fact that the Beatles were definitely fallen as well as Otto geniuses. Totally true that if Lennon had been alive now he would’ve been for sure canceled out for his abuse. And in fact, all of the Beatles cheated on their girlfriends and wives multiple times. None of them are standup examples. Not just John, but Paul McCartney was horribly abusive to his wife Heather Mills who already had a leg amputation. Whilst I adore the Beatles and the music, I’m able to see the fact that they had some serious flaws too. Doesn’t mean I don’t love them, but I recognize that they are indeed very human as you well put. I think in the abuse, perhaps the saddest of all is how John Lennon was such an absent father to Julian, his son, who, of course is the inspiration for McCartney’s Hey Jude. Julian grew up without a dad and saw his younger brother Sean have everything. In fact, once John Lennon died, Julian had to sue the estate of John Lennon just to get Yoko an opportunity to give at least something to him. He got a settlement but it was a fraction of how much Lennon‘s state was worth. I still have resentment towards Yoko, gotta admit. Nevertheless, there is no more influential band than the Beatles nor will there ever be one as loved. A good example to look are the Rolling Stones, who are still playing - which is incredible in itself - but there’s no way they are loved as closely as any of the Beatles. Not on a personal level. Helter skelter is the song in particular which Charles Manson felt sent subliminal messages. One thing I really do wish that the Beatles as individuals had done later, is apologize for their part in corrupting so many peoples lives by saying it was cool and OK to do drugs when they didn’t realize just how damaging it is. So many lives were lost and destroyed by people following along in the same tracks. I think they should’ve taken some ownership there. Love has to be real. I do think that John Lennon did a good job there with admitting his flaws at least. Again, another excellent contribution to the Beatles conversation. So wish I’d seen your reaction to the music video. You didn’t happen to record did you? I really need to listen to your own music and see what it’s like. Thank you again.

Thank you for this reply!!! Definitely agree with everything you’ve said here! I think we are unconsciously attracted to artists because of their human nature. They showcase their art raw and unfiltered like standing in front of the world naked. They are not pretending to be a saint or a politician and are showing us their most vulnerable sides and we connect with that. We look to times we weren’t our best selves, we find solace in knowing others hurt like we hurt. Some of my favorite Lennon songs are the darker ones for that very reason. And that doesn’t give them a pass either. What we can learn from them as developing artists ourselves is to also be open about our healing and admit when we were wrong. I think that’s also something people will be able to connect with. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts, hope to see you in our comments more often. 🙏🏼❤️

if you see people on twitter or rededit, or wherever, they all measure their favorites against the beatles, and they usually use a chart showing their favs as much higher than the beatles, despite the fact the beatles are number 1 in sales, but the point is they all measure their favs against the beatles and not say, queen or michael jackson or elvis or whoever, they all use the beatles, thats because the beatles are the goat, the beatles are used by all to measure success against. they set the bar to which all success is measured against.

I'm going to also point out with people comparing their favorites to the Beatles these are physical sales of tapes, LPs, and 45s. Yes they've gotten a boost from digital sales, and CDs when they became a thing. But a sizeable majority of their sales were through what I said above. The Beatles in less than 10 years went from Love me do, to here comes the Sun. With a plethora of growth in between. Pioneered more in the studio than any other band in the world. Also introduced lots of other styles of music in their own music. Such as Indian music.

Fixing a Hole does not have the lyrics about "beating his woman." That was in the lyrics of "Getting Better" on the same Sgt Peppers' album [1967]. "I used to be cruel to my woman, I beat her, and kept her apart from the things she loved....man I was mean but I'm changing my scene, and I'm dong the best that I can, and,".....

First one that comes to mind is Paul Simon...both Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel are still alive...the 1960's duo Simon and Garfunkel...Simon's songs from the duo and solo are just as good as the Beatles and sometimes even better...

One serious question: were the Beatles the reflection of the culture of that time? Or was that time a result of what the Beatles had started?
@gozaband
@gozaband 10 ай бұрын
That is definitely a tough and good question! I think ultimately the Beatles were able to see what was hip and where things where moving and with the power of their music were able to further push it into their direction and interpretation of how they felt about life during that age. But I digress because I obviously wasn’t there 😂

@@gozabandI wasn't there either. Nearly. I was born in 1964 and became a Beatles fan around 1975 when my brother brought over the Red Album. I've kind of been studying The Beatles ever since. And I used to think that it was just a coincidence of events and that the Beatles just fit in nicely. Today I actually think that the Beatles were the trigger for the whole thing: Love & Peace, anti-Vietnam, hippies... You can tell from the music alone: with a few exceptions, the bands in the 60s looked at what the Beatles were doing and tried to copy them as best they could. That's what makes the sound of the 60s. Interestingly, the Beatles were always one step further when the others wanted to repeat the previous step. That was, for example, the reason why Brian Wilson threw in the towel in frustration. What I want to say is that in the 60s people followed what the Beatles did and that resulted in the culture of the 60s. It was only in the 70s, after the end of the Beatles, that music and culture became "free" of the Beatles, which is clearly noticeable.

So many other British Bands [And American] during the period between 1963 and 1967 did NOT change with the times and with the Beatles: the Dave Clark Five, Herman's Hermits, BJ Kramer and the Dakotas, Gerry and the Pacemakers, The Kinks, Gary Lewis and the Playboys [American], even the R and B bands like the Yardbirds. Even the ones that tried to change did not really match the Beatles' quality of songwriting. The Rolling Stones tried to copy the psychedelic era music the Beatles did for a short while and fell flat and returned to their rock and roll R and B sound.

I know this is 8 months old, but they could never say for certain that Brian Epstein killed himself. I think it was more widely accepted that he accidentally overdosed. And, while they always considered John to be the leader, once he got involved with Yoko, he abdicated the role. George and Ringo could have come to Paul and offered to take a joint role where John had left that void. But they didn't. So Paul stepped up to the plate and took on the role. In the Get Back Documentary, during the flower pot discussion, Paul tells John that he (John) was the leader. At one point in episode 1, Paul tells the group that he's tired of having to take on that role. But no one stepped up, including John. Ringo said Paul was the workaholic of the group. He and John would be lounging around and the phone would ring. They knew who it was before even picking up the receiver. He said that if it hadn't been for Paul, they'd have made a few albums and quit. And he thanked Paul for being "that guy." As far their rights to their own music, there is a story there. Look up Dick (?) James and Northern Songs. He sold them out behind their backs.
