I'd love to know how much empty space you edit out of these videos? I've been going through this process, also making videos, it's only been in the edit that I realised how long it takes me to finish a thought and make a sentence. I can see all the cuts in your videos and figure it's similar.

Thank you for this video, I have honestly struggled with copy people my whole life and it is something I have felt a lot of shame around so hearing that other people have had this issue as well makes me feel so seen.

I feel like I am paying for a $1000 phone that does a lot of things but I don't use any of those features, except phone calls and txting. I am considering downgrading from iPhone 15 to good ol' flip phone. I used to have them in the 90s anyway, I'm not foreign to that technology.

With banking (Monzo), KZfaq etcI’ve installed these ‘essential apps’ on my iPad. When I’m on the go or at work I can carry it in my rucksack and it’s there if I need it, otherwise I just wait until I get home and catch up on a bit of admin. For music I’ve got a beautiful Sony Walkman and just use cassette tapes down the gym, going for walks etc.

about to downgrade and start my flip phone summer. i've decided to keep whatsapp on my laptop-- you can download the app and then connect it from your smartphone before you downgrade and then it'll work :) so when i'm at home, i'll still have whatsapp. as for gps... my flip doesn't have gps so i'll see how that works. it does have an internet app though so maybe it'll be fine. i'll try planning my journey from home 😭

Loved this presentation, simplified to suit, and I can understand the AD side of things, as I have a partner who suffers from this, he needs to write everything down too, but is quite disorganized atm. wonder whether he would take this challenge on. Anyway, I enjoyed the video so much, I have kept a basic notebook for many years, but silly me never kept them, like you say was just a piece of paper which I regularly threw out when finished with, they are so handy. I am now into using them more efficiently and interested in where to go after the field notebook and the planner.

i understand completely...are there any physical things you've learned not to do around others but that you've caught yourself doing if stressed? i'm learning myself and just starting to absorb more and more info on autism and i agree the masking part was hard for me to think about but i did identify physical things i do like pinch or flick my fingertips which i still do as an adult and have caught myself doing at work and then try to stop or hide it. also when i was young, i would lightly hit myself on the arms and legs which i learned not to do in front of anyone bc of the very strong reaction ppl had when i did it especially as i got older and older. but to start the "mask identification process" i've started doing that again and i find it's easy for me to like it even if i've somewhat outgrown it, i find that the repetitive motion and the physical stimulus i'm giving myself is somewhat calming or hypnotic which seems to me to be in line with autism. my reasoning is that if i try to resurrect things i've learned not to do, it may serve as a gateway into even more advanced masking that i might be doing. also i just realized this is an old video, you may no longer be at this stage anymore lol

I started watching your content recently and it's been lovely watching you become happier and confident in each video. Obviously I don't know you, but I love hearing your thoughts on life and the world around us. Your content has made me reevaluate my relationship with my smartphone and to appreciate slow living. Cheers from a small island in Canada :)

Thank you for this. I am going to be watching your other videos. Just about two weeks ago, I discovered autism as a possibility and have spent every waking hour since then doing research. I have come to the conclusion that I am autistic, and this video resonates with me so much. It was a giant relief to figure it out, just like it was when I got a formal diagnosis for a nonverbal learning disorder. It's also confusing and overwhelming and a grief process at realizing I have spent 42 years living a life that was not my own. Watching this video gave me the idea to start recording videos of my thoughts and maybe giving myself a birthday present on July 1 by publishing them and starting the new life.

I haven't used cash since 2019. I pay for everything with my phone, shops, garage, everything. Also my parking app which checks where I am and sends me the code for parking in that area, again no cash required, deducted from your bank at end of the month. I love the idea, but it won't work. I am 71 and live in the Netherlands.

I haven't had a smartphone for two years now and I don't find it an inconvenience at all. I have a laptop at home which I use for online banking, shopping, WhatsApp etc. I check my WhatsApp and email messages once a day when I get home from work. People soon get to know that if they need to send me a text to my phone then they need to use SMS.

I usually do not write comments, but you are an exception. I want to thank you for the motivation you are giving me to make a change. I remember first stumbling onto your nokia flip phone videos, so i got the idea just to buy one too, as i have been struggling with the internet, and my screen time has been huge. Then i remember i had a ditched out old samsung with android 5. I put Viber on it and i use it every day. Just for texting with family and calls. Some times hotspot to laptop. Thank you again...

You sound brainwashed by the smart phone makers. First you're comparing a flip phone to something that's not a phone. A smart phone is really a tiny computer that happens to have calling capabilities. Try having a long conversation with a smart phone. It's very uncomfortable. Sounds quality on speaker is not great also. As I said it's a device to use the internet outside one's home, has a camera, flash light. It's really a little computer gadget. If you want to simply talk and make lots of calls, a flip phone is the way to go. This is why it's kind of designed like an actual telephone to some degree. Flip phones are actually adding features to make smart phones obsolete.

i have only ever used dumbphones. in 2020, i got the nokia 2720. i liked it, but it had issues, albeit small. i saw the cat s-22 a couple years ago, and wanted one, but $200 cdn too much when i still had the 2720. i saw that the s-22 is now $91 cdn, so i ordered it and im looking forward to the more capable unit while retaining the form and function and 4g of a flip. plus its a water/dustproof tank.

I feel the hyperfocus vs special interest thing! Especially bc I just bought an electric piano kind of suddenly to learn piano 😭. Time and time again though, even if my hyperfocus fades, the skills and joy from that time don’t (at least not 100% lol), and if I got quality supplies or equipment the first time around then I am all set right out of the gate if I want to start again. That’s what inspired me to spend a liiitle more and get an electric piano with the most essential features I needed, because the last time around I had a crappy Casio keyboard that sounded awful and didn’t have the full 88 keys. And guess what I dragged out of storage when the inspiration hit again: the Casio. So I took note of what I was lacking and used that to guide my purchase of an affordable but good quality (and full sized) electric piano. The hard part is deciding what is essential to the hobby and staying realistic purchase-wise 😂. Also there tends to be hobby overlap and those supplies can be used elsewhere. That’s always pretty satisfying. Btw your collages are really beautiful, and it is so fun to see your process!

I quit Instagram 3 years ago and I pretty much spend all that time and more on KZfaq. I DO feel crappy when I’m scrolling and watching and can’t pull away, but it always feels better than being on Insta. I feel bad for being sedentary, scrolling, staring, not doing other things with my life, but at least I don’t feel terribly lonely with crippling low self esteem like I did with Insta.

Throwing your smartphone away (or donating it) will help you greatly. This addiction you feel is so incredibly severe. I know, because I struggle with it every single day of my life. For me, it has been far worse than quitting smoking, drinking, and drugs. A few days ago I said to myself, KZfaq is just as bad as other social media platforms. I strongly believe that. I wish you the best of luck. Find support in friends and family. Much love from the States.

I was diagnosed in January aged 52 after a 2.5 year wait, by which time I had quit my job with burnout. I thought I'd feel relieved and validated, but I didn't. This video has been so helpful and like Lisa I am perhaps on a slower path to acceptance. I feel like I don't know who I am any more and am still clinging to the familiarity of masking Who am I without the mask and if I start to drop it, will that undo 30 years of psychology, self improvement and spirtiual philosophy. There is a high cost to my 'well-functioning-adult' persona, but the reward is social acceptance. I am struggling to reconcile these and have only disclosed my diagnosis to my daughter and my best friend (who said, I'm surprised, you don't seem at all autistic). This video has been really good in helping me recognise the grief I am feeling and my fear of being 'openly autistic'. I look forward to being a proud advocate in the autistic community when I reach acceptance. Thank you.

The style of this video was absolutely wonderful to consume. It felt nostalgic like home video but also OG KZfaq. I think talking about the overstimulation of KZfaq but then creating a calmer video, you’re not selling anything, not flashing things and keeping a more realistic vlog style, is such a good contrast to the reason other videos are so so addictive. I was not distracted one or felt the urge to click away, which I do so often on other videos. You’re really coming into your style and I appreciate your content so much! Thank you for sharing
