Lana's aesthetic in this clip is all Betty Grable and other stars of the 1930s and early-1940s, not Marilyn Monroe as suggested here at 1:27. The hairstyle is a carbon copy of Betty Grable and so many others from that era in Hollywood. Wrong decade for a shout out to Marilyn (which Lana does in "Candy Necklaces," along with a nod to Veronica Lake).

Well done. I always hated Sandy's makeover in "Grease" or other makeovers. The character's looks were always changed unrecognisably and suddenly life was alright. Elle didn't need a makeover. Her surroundings did.

You don't know wtf you are talking about. It's about a same sex relationship. I'm on the run with you my sweet love. That's the starting line. She is talking about loving a women. She talks about her sexual fluidity.(I'm in the wind, I'm in the water. Nobody's son. Nobody's daughter) the women are having sexual relationships in the night. And when they are finish they return to their beds. One went to a bed with a man(her husband that she returned to). Two others went in a bed together and lana returned to her bed alone(she has noone.. she sings about it a lot). But your analysis is not an analysis at all its just stating observations

I think you’ve misunderstood the meaning of ‘interpretation’, but also this isn’t a lyrical analysis. I’m strictly talking about the music video, the filmic techniques, and the story that they tell. I don’t understand why that is so upsetting to you? If you don’t like it, watch a different video!

You've completely misinterpreted the visuals when the audio tells the story. You can have a wrong interpretation of something. Like your video.

This is hardly a productive conversation. In one comment you’re saying I don’t have an interpretation, the next you think I do have an interpretation but you think it’s wrong. As I said it is subjective. Also, this is a channel about film & visual storytelling.

Good video but it has some flaws: 1) Thigh High Boots are actually recommended for petites in general since they lengthen the legs rather than shorten them and 2) The examples show are not midi length skirts, but rather below the knee. There's a difference. Midi is supposed to hit way lower. I don't think Ariana would wear midi length skirts.

I just had a kind of depressing thought.. if Ariana Grande had an ugly face and a not so perfect body, nobody would care about her (or at least not NEARLY as many people), even despite her flawless fashion sense, amazing talent and beautiful music. I am not exempt from this, I think her beauty is what draws me to her too, she's just fun to look at and adore.

It's such a cool, statement piece! In an interview, the costume designer says she thinks that she made it, but she isn't 100% sure! It might have been thrifted

Thank you for this video! It got recommended to me and because I love the movie I thought why not? I love Elle Woods character so much, her clothes are so iconic and will always be. I love how much pink she uses in her clothes and how comfortable the colour makes her feel. And she never loses that to be 'more serious' or 'to fit the job', she is staying herself on her conditions

So true! ☺️ You reminded me of a really interesting TED Talk I watched that said in the modern world we come across more people on a daily basis than ever before, which results in more snap judgements based on appearance! Super important to be aware of it and able to challenge those judgments!
