Excellent video, in my personal opinion. The reason these motors fail, is because the locking jaws are never lubricated. This makes it extra hard for the motor to work. There for it burns up. I lubricate my locks, hinges, and key tumblers with a real good oil. It’s called G96, it’s not cheap but it works.

Thank you for this video!! These instructions worked exactly for my 2017 Toyota Tundra. Took less than two hours. Would have taken a lot less time if it weren’t for a tricky wire harness from my electric locks and windows switch. Thanks again!!

Thanks for this detailed mechanical breakdown as this fixed my 2016 Tundra SR. Just what I needed because a spring fell out of the unit when I popped it apart. This video shows where everything is supposed to be. Advice to anyone else doing the drivers side, make sure that when you are putting this unit back in the door, line up the key cylinder with the lock mechanism. If you get it all back together and the key will not unlock the door, it isn't lined up properly.

Excellent video . The gears are called a worm gear on the motor and a ring gear it activates to lock and un- lock the door . My door has intermittent failure. Maybe the contacts are not good ? Cheap to buy a new motor . What is your source for a new motor ?

Thank you so much. Funny story. I'm tearing apart my truck today sitting in the driveway, have the replacement plastic door plugs, pry tools, and motor, and in my garage floor I've got a million pieces laying everywhere watching your video. I get it back together, start getting it in the door, and hear thunder. It wasn't supposed to rain at all today. I literally stuck a plastic plug in to replace one and shoved the panel back on as it started. The bottom fell out as my door shut. I got drenched running 10 feet back into my garage but whew that was close. Thank God for your video!

Ok, so I have a new lock issue. I have a 2010 Tundra. I've replaced all of the actuator motors once and some, twice (thanks to this video). Now I have a new issue. All went out at the same time, except the driver's door. I just replaced the rear driver's side, so it's odd that it's not working. Is the driver's side a master for the other 3? Is there something other than actuator motors that could be causing this? It makes a funny sound like it's trying and the alarm makes a few beeps, but nothing unlocks except the driver's door. I welcome any suggestions.

I have a question. I know this fix is cheap, but I've done all of my doors twice. It's been a short-term fix for me. Anyone else have this problem? I have a 2010 Tundra 4wd, Crew Cab. Just curious. I'd still rather do this than pay for a new actuator, but it's just annoying.

Two important issues the reference number for motor wrong it’s not brass collar 10 mm flat shaft don’t order brass collar other issue he got lucky or did not state the rod for manual operation ie key turn must run through out side cup on actuator or your key won’t work and you can’t open door once closed then your really hoses and second video skips four important places why does he keep referencing rear actuator got nothing to do with front it has its own particularly for install re do video correctly or I’ll do it you miss too many key issues and keep cutting out video to what ever your doing other than doing a install video he’s half ass

Most important you gave wrong motor in description it’s not brass collar second you keep not shooting on anything required to open third you keep showing and talking about rear actuator it’s a front actuator show stop showing nonsense all these clips yet you don’t show how to open with out breaking oh got this set up you have no clue what your using pop it out I’ll be back after I shut of cam this is a show of not showing wow don’t order motor in motor need description he’s wrong on that type motor it’s not the brass collar you need 10 mm flat shaft motor that’s it FYI

It sounds like you didnt attached both linkages, the rear has the safty door switch not the front, if it open partially it should open all the way, it sounds like the linkage is not put back properly, not adjusted in the right hole, maybe you can get to the latch between the door and center and see if you can get it to open the reat of way,

Excellent video but maybe too late for me. I did the front passenger actuator motor on my 2008 Lexus IS and everything went well but I didn't test it first. (I wasn't thinking). I can get the door to open partially from the inside handle but not the exterior handle. And, as you mention in your video, I did not set the safety latch (not sure what position it was when I reinstalled). I can get the door partially open from the inside door handle, not the outside, so it it loose but won't open. I think its called the safety latches (secondary latch?) . You mentioned getting a coat hanger in there to pull it down but I already put the door panel back on. Ugh. Any suggestions for getting the door open from the safety latched position?

I your door wont open it might be something other than the actuator, you should be able to open it from the inside , if not the rod from the lock to the door handle might have fallen of

@@louiscasterson9569 I have power locks, The locks fly open and close. The cables and rods are all there. Trust me, I've done the slim Jim down the glass, I can see the rod moving the lever on the actuator. It all appears to be working but the jaws won't release off of the striker bar(the thing the jaws grab on to) I'm to the point of getting ready to cut into the B-Pillar and cut the bolts off the back of the striker plate. I also found a video about that very same thing (His was a customer's 91 Honda Accord, mine is a 2003 4Runner) Same problem though and looks to be the only solution...or at least the one causing the least visible damage.

Thank you so much for this tutorial. It worked great on my 2007 4runner. But.... now when I use the remote to lock the doors, the 3 untouched doors lock but the one i replaced, opens. Same with unlocking. Hmmmm. Polarity issue? - UPDATE: ..... removed the plastic cap on the motor, turned it 180 degrees and filed down the little tab so it would slide in. Works perfectly now! So if anyone has an issue like mine, that's the fix!!

Thanks for taking the time to post - very helpful. The only other advice I would add is that specific to the driver’s door, I recommend also removing the key cylinder before removing the actuator from the door. It comes out easier and you are sure to align it correctly when reinstalling. I didn’t try the key until a day or two later and it didn’t work. There are other vids out there that show you how to remove the key cylinder - very easy, but worth the extra effort on the driver’s door, especially if your remote doesn’t work one day and you actually need to use the key.

Hello, I know this is an old post but figured I'd reach out. I'm in the same boat. I fixed my actuator, but now my driver's door key cylinder isn't functioning. Any advice on how to align it correctly? To my understanding, I'll have to take the actuator back out and realign some rod.

The video is still helping people. Thank you! I have a 2003 RAV4, and this video also applies to that vehicle. I'm a woman and am slightly mechanically inclined, and I was able to do this repair, though it is not for the faint of heart. Several days passed while I waited for my $6 part to arrive (Mabuchi Nichibo Door Lock Motor Flat or Round Shaft 20mm or 10mm FC-280PC-22125), so by the time it came to put it all back together, I had to re-watch the video to remember where all the pieces went. Yikes! And because of the time passing, I recommend being very organized about setting down screws and perhaps taking a picture or two while you disassemble.

Yeah, it saved me a few hundred as well. The driver door is a little trickier to reinstall once assembled back, due to the key lock mechanism but it worked well. I wish i could go to the stealership and tell them how much it cost me to fix this issue we should not be experiencing.
