Thank you so much. Funny story. I'm tearing apart my truck today sitting in the driveway, have the replacement plastic door plugs, pry tools, and motor, and in my garage floor I've got a million pieces laying everywhere watching your video. I get it back together, start getting it in the door, and hear thunder. It wasn't supposed to rain at all today. I literally stuck a plastic plug in to replace one and shoved the panel back on as it started. The bottom fell out as my door shut. I got drenched running 10 feet back into my garage but whew that was close. Thank God for your video!

Thank you for this video!! These instructions worked exactly for my 2017 Toyota Tundra. Took less than two hours. Would have taken a lot less time if it weren’t for a tricky wire harness from my electric locks and windows switch. Thanks again!!

Excellent video, in my personal opinion. The reason these motors fail, is because the locking jaws are never lubricated. This makes it extra hard for the motor to work. There for it burns up. I lubricate my locks, hinges, and key tumblers with a real good oil. It’s called G96, it’s not cheap but it works.

Thanks for this detailed mechanical breakdown as this fixed my 2016 Tundra SR. Just what I needed because a spring fell out of the unit when I popped it apart. This video shows where everything is supposed to be. Advice to anyone else doing the drivers side, make sure that when you are putting this unit back in the door, line up the key cylinder with the lock mechanism. If you get it all back together and the key will not unlock the door, it isn't lined up properly.

Thanks for the video! Saved me hundreds! I can confirm this method and motor works with a 2011 tundra rear crew max door lock. TAKE PICTURES AS SOON AS YOU PULL APART ACTUATOR! I had a spring fall out on me (thank god I noticed it before I put the actuator back in) and had to pull the other lock apart to figure out where it came from. It cost me another 90 minutes. When I ordered the lock from amazon it was 16 dollars shipped to my door.

The video is still helping people. Thank you! I have a 2003 RAV4, and this video also applies to that vehicle. I'm a woman and am slightly mechanically inclined, and I was able to do this repair, though it is not for the faint of heart. Several days passed while I waited for my $6 part to arrive (Mabuchi Nichibo Door Lock Motor Flat or Round Shaft 20mm or 10mm FC-280PC-22125), so by the time it came to put it all back together, I had to re-watch the video to remember where all the pieces went. Yikes! And because of the time passing, I recommend being very organized about setting down screws and perhaps taking a picture or two while you disassemble.

Worked. Took about an hour from door panel removal to reassembly and testing. Note, I’ve removed the door panel a few times working on speaker install. I will say, the hardest parts were removing the large, silver part (mechanism that actually holds the door closed, that slides up) and all the tabs around the edge. For the large, silver part, you’ll have to use a but more force to slide it up. For the tabs, I used several small/medium screwdrivers to keep the two large plastic pieces apart while I worked on each tab around the assembly. Good video

Thanks for taking the time to post - very helpful. The only other advice I would add is that specific to the driver’s door, I recommend also removing the key cylinder before removing the actuator from the door. It comes out easier and you are sure to align it correctly when reinstalling. I didn’t try the key until a day or two later and it didn’t work. There are other vids out there that show you how to remove the key cylinder - very easy, but worth the extra effort on the driver’s door, especially if your remote doesn’t work one day and you actually need to use the key.

At 5:49 to separate the top and bottom housing, I used a different technique using two small screw drivers. I started at one end, opened one clip and wedged the other screwdriver in between the top and bottom housing to create a slight opening. I shoved small pieces of paper into the crease and worked my way down, one clip at a time. After 5 or so clips, one end will be open enough where it won't collapse back on itself. This way, you won't damage any clips so that they will close tight when putting everything back together.

The actuators on these M.Y. Tundras are an issue. Toyota has released updated a parts to adress this concern. If you look at the actuator housing, there should be a stamped production date. ex. 1111 would mean 11th month of 2011. ( In the video at 10:12 mark, you can see E 0510. That would indicate 05 month, 10=2010. So this is not the original part) If the date is before 1014, the actuators are problem prone. Now, Toyota is NOT replaceing these for free..... I'm just saying this in case you buy an assembly, you can check the date. If it is before the production change.... request a different part.

Thank you so much for this tutorial. It worked great on my 2007 4runner. But.... now when I use the remote to lock the doors, the 3 untouched doors lock but the one i replaced, opens. Same with unlocking. Hmmmm. Polarity issue? - UPDATE: ..... removed the plastic cap on the motor, turned it 180 degrees and filed down the little tab so it would slide in. Works perfectly now! So if anyone has an issue like mine, that's the fix!!

I have to do this to my Tacoma 4 door. What is the proper setting for the child lock (Locked or Unlocked) so that I don't permanently "lock" the door? I'm guessing that the child lock needs to be set in the proper position BEFORE removing the actuator from the door. Is this true? Thank you!

First of all, thank you for this video. I replaced all 4 motors in my son's 2008 Tundra and now everything works beautifully from the remote. However, we did not check to ensure the manual key still works. Unfortunately, it does not and now I'm trying to determine what I could have failed to reconnect on the driver door. Any thoughts would be appreciated. He's locked himself out of the truck once already but realizes he needs to have his remote from now on. Thank you.

Brian Kelly, on the backside of the tumbler is a small shaft that splines into tne actuator. If you open the door you will see a small grommet 90 degrees from the lock, remove it and you will then see the torx screw that holds the lock assy in place. Remove the lock and align the shaft into the actuator and you should be good. Happened to me as well.

@@montydyer Monty, Thank you for posting the tip for Brian...it totally helped me out, too. 2016 Tundra Platinum. After I had everything back together for my driver side front door, remote worked to lock and unlock everything, so I knew the new actuator motor was working. However, the door handle didn't open the door and I could open it from the inside. Took the door apart again and found that I had forgotten to ensure the rod from the door handle was put back into the actuator. Quickly got that fixed and put the door back together and had success with locking/unlocking with the remote. Tried to do it with the key and it didn't work. I was not looking forward to taking the whole door apart again and saw your tip. Found the grommet you mentioned and loosened the torx screw (didn't have to take it out) to remove the lock assembly...aligned the shaft with the fitting on the actuator and it all works perfectly now. The actuator motor I replaced was failing regularly and I was pleasantly surprised when the new motor worked...after all that effort to get it apart and back together, I was happy to not have to take the actuator apart again to trouble shoot. I don't think I could do this in 30 minutes like some claim, but I'm ready for the next one. - Rob

Good video, i just repaired the passenger side one as a pilot test, all of the actuator on my Tundra 2014 stopped working except for the driver side. We struggled putting back the cover since the mechanism was not engaging properly, my advice is to check exactly how the mechanism is positioned and even take pictures, the little lever that opens the door by the way of the door handle, make sure you test that. To reseal the seams after removing the dust seal, i used duct tape and it worked pretty good. Once again for my Tundra 2014 i used these motors: www.ebay.com/itm/10mm-D-Flat-Shaft-FC-280PC-22125-Door-Lock-Motor-Actuator-Repair-Toyota-Lexus/111593275460?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 Thanks for the video.

Trust me, I've done the slim Jim down the glass, I can see the rod moving the lever on the actuator. It all appears to be working but the jaws won't release off of the striker bar(the thing the jaws grab on to) I'm to the point of getting ready to cut into the B-Pillar and cut the bolts off the back of the striker plate. I also found a video about that very same thing (His was a customer's 91 Honda Accord, mine is a 2003 4Runner) Same problem though and looks to be the only solution...or at least the one causing the least visible damage.
