An American here, related to 43 of 56 Signers of the Declaration, 9 of 10 of our first Presidents, 4 Mayflower families, several Colonial & 1st American colonies Governors. I've "crossed the pond", am at Oxford furthering my genealogical research while my wife & youngest daughter, both Dartmouth College Graduate students, are attending summer classes, at Exeter College, in the centuries old student exchange program between Dartmouth College and University of Oxford. I'm a direct descendent of the Earls Of Pembroke, namesake of 400 years old Pembroke College, University of Oxford(closed year'round to public access) where I have been most warmly welcomed through their hallowed main gates. Powerful stuff to me, and it resonates to my core. I am so very thankful to be here; through gritted teeth, thankful those Nazi bastards failed to bomb out this world heritage site. I also wish to express my gratitude for your video(s) which have opened the doors, literally, to my past. I've beheld the book written by my cousin of 11 generations ago Sir Francis Bacon, which resides in a special display next to the works of Shakespeare in the Bodleian Library. I've quaffed pints in the same pubs frequented by the many Oxford graduates within my families. I am in awe! Please, if you would, join me the first weekend of September in Brussels, for the annual BBW(Belgian Beer Weekend) and the sacred event of the "Blessing of the Beer Barrel", where we'll raise a glass(read several) in honor of my 39th GreatGrandFather Bishop Saint Arnould de Metz(582-640), PATRON SAINT OF BREWING. BCNU Soon!?

Darrell , many thanks for taking the time out to watch our Chester edition & sincere thanks for your incredibly kind feedback, greatly appreciated. Curious to know which tour company of the many you traveled with, that was my bread & butter for many years guiding tours of Britain, Ireland & vast part of Europe. Happy days indeed but really felt we were just showing a tiny taste of what our countries had to offer. E.g 2 hours in Chester no where near enough but we have to be in Wales for dinner ! But as I always said there we’re always places that you experienced that you said been there but never need to go back, however there we’re always 1 or 2 places where you felt compelled to return to. Funnily enough just recently experienced that myself this past summer on a return trip to the UK with the family for a 4 week visit & adventure. Best wishes for the festive season & hoping you have a safe and healthy New Year . Rich Jones, Tour Guides Travel Guides.

Oh Corey so so angry, thinking someone got out of bed on the wrong side this morning ! So here’s the thing, this was a small piece of many that talks about Oxford & specifically Christchurch. The simple fact of the matter is that because of the World wide success of the Harry Potter phenomenon, the filming that was actually done there & the fact that the vast majority of visitors to the College go there because of J K Rowling’s stories I would be doing a huge amount of viewers a huge disservice by not mentioning it. If you would like another spin on Oxford colleges you may want to check out our full Oxford tour, although there maybe too much historical information for your liking ! 🤐🤫. I am not sure exactly what you are asking me here , but as far as I know there a no original plays in Shakespeare’s hand that actually exist. There is the First Folio that was put together in 1623 , seven years after his death by former friends & colleagues of his, that I believe contains 36 pieces of his work and as I understand it is in the library of UBC University of British Columbia. On a limited budget I would suggest move away from the main drag on the corn market & shopping center & wander the back streets exploring the colleges, Christchurch meadows. The museum’s are mainly free, if you want to go into Christchurch itself there is a fee & I would definitely pre book as that seems to be the norm everywhere these days. Food wise I would suggest Oxford market or go & see my friend Hamid at Cafe Crème on Broad street for the best coffee & panini in town. Hope this helps. Rich Jones Tour Guides Travel Guides.

Britt Unculus. My sincere apologies for the tardiness of the response, I believed I had replied to your last message & particularly kind words . Obviously I hadn’t & so I am sorry not like me at all. Having been involved in the travel industry for the best part of 30 years now, my word where did that go ? guiding tours around Europe I always believed that the number 1 key was the information, not just the history & stories but logistics, directions, culture, currency, safety, the list is endless. Absolutely keep them entertained appropriately, trust me on this there are some dull guides out there & some who really should not be working with the public. I never saw myself as an educator, however, if my clients left my tour well informed, entertained & with just a little more knowledge than before they arrived then I thought I had done my job right. On a final note, probably the greatest compliment I received, gosh must be 20 years ago now, was from an American lady who asked me if I was a history teacher. When I replied that I was not her response was “ well young man you should be “ . Thanks for messages & my best wishes to you. Rich Jones.
