Vesperia is my favorite game of all time but if they ended the game after act 2 with that main villain dying it would be a lot better.

Hard disagree on KH3, I’d say it’s underwhelming from the beginning to the end. It’s just not the epic conclusion we were promised and you can just sense the development hell the game was in every single minute of playing that game.

Got it Day 1 on the GameCube and played it to completion. It’s right now the #5 best JRPG of all time on my list. Sure it could use some QOL improvements today. But I’ve gone back to it several times and it’s still very much good, fun and addicting.

I'm a RPG fan first and a JRPG fan second so I care far more about combat, progression and exploration than I do anything else, story, characters and world building are what I call minor narrative elements, they don't really matter when it comes to the game itself but they give the game an overarching theme and give the casuals who only play the game for the story and will play the game on the easiest difficulty a reason to play the game, but I would argue serious RPG gamers like myself are more interested in the actual gameplay, the character progression and exploration, which are the 3 major elements of RPG game design, it doesn't matter whether it's an eastern RPG or a western RPG, the same rules apply, I mean why do you think artists, coders and developers are all paid more than writers, their jobs are all more important, only casuals just play these kinds of games just for the main story, only serious gamers will 100% this game which I gladly did, I think most of the casual weebs played through the main story in like 35-40 hours, completely missing out on more than 90% of the game, I spent 370 hours making sure I did absolutely everything, only a true gamer and a true JRPG fan can have that much dedication lol, but this game is extremely addicting and fun when you approach it from a combat and progression perspective, this game was all about progressing my characters and building them up the way I wanted, you have so much customization when it comes to each character, playing with all of them, mastering their combos and perfecting their combat techniques, very fun gameplay loop, only a RPG could be this addicting in this way

Shame it's riddled with microtransactions as a full price game.

great video, i discovered teh Ys series back last year when i was searching for jrpgs to install on my PSP 3000 and then i found Ys VII, the gameplay immediately cought me, so i gave it a try, now Ys is my favorite jrpg franchise, after seven, i played the oath in felgana and Ys VI, now im currently playing origin Seven probablyu ll be my all time favorite, was such a joy to play, i loved every single thing in the game, and playing on a PSP as it was made to, it was a blast, def gonna play it again this year

Vesperia. Yeah, like the assholes cussing out a child because they thought she was some kind of criminal pirate. That right there pissed me off about the game. Patty was one of my favorite characters.

Bruh the return of Armored Core has had me foaming at the mouth for more mech stuff, not marketing this was criminal.

What is funny is they only had 12 episodes yet they spent most of the episodes with filler. I think that and trying to paint the all the erebonian heroes as good people was the main issues. They were too afraid to have Rean, Lecther, and Altina be a menacing villain. They made the war more like a slight scuffle between malfunctioning mechs too. In the game the war was supposed to scar Rean, he was suppose to lose control and actually hurt people. In the show he’s a good guy helping Lavi and the Jaegars save the day!

The ending of KH III was very disappointing. I've played them all over the years, and they dropped Xehanort so hard. I guess the story died with Xehanort's voice actor Leonard Nemoy.

Xenogears is unfinished, however to this day it's still my favorite story in a video-game. It really deserves a remake, it's sad that company politics might not let that happen. Again, for those who eenjoy stories, it's a masteerpiece

I think the expectations.for kh3 for many people were just too high, granted...I shouldn't be talking since I lost all my data on the ps4 sigh 😮‍💨, I was stuck on the final boss when i lasted played it. The others youve mentioned...I haven't played at all with the exception of vesperia and Tales of arise, so I'll need to see what your talking about on Vesperia, because it seems like you have a high expectation on a old tales game that just didn't hit a high note, if I had to take a gander. As for the Astral chain, that games never ever leaving Nintendo, since they own it, just like Bayonetta 2 and 3 are staying in Nintendo for the future. Oh Ps. Tales of Zestria was my very first tales game

Vesperia is a bit overhyped, I love Tales games, but Vesperia is not very good 'Tales' game, it looks fine.. but after the third act of the game, for real, things just 'happen'... like they did not think things through, they threw things over...they picked one, felt kind of shallow, Unlike Phantasia , which gives you a whole saga... or Abyss that pushes forward, or even Eternia which I think is much better. ..

i dont get why xenogears that is here when there is absolute trash like ff9, ff10 but that is me personally i complete xenogears once a year and think all RPG's should follow in that approach im going to have to dislike just because of this and yes bring it back but dont change anything story wise

I wonder how much is this the games actually getting worse, or if it's just burnout from playing the same game for 60+ hours.The older I get, the more often I am switching and have to leave games for some even after like 10-20 hours. This happens to me especially in text-heavy games and with turn-based combat, so most JRPGs. However when I return after the lengthy break, I find the game really good again. DQXI is a prime example of this for me.

Everyone is different, but this is my least favorite game in the series, followed by Reverie. Which, sadly, for me, means 2 of the last 3 games have flopped. It's really making Kai a make or break for me, as far as how much they can/can't hit the things I care about.

Oh man, finally some validation for what I feel about KH3 and Tales of Vesperia. Your oinions on them are very close to mine, it's so refreshing not to feel like a lone soldier among avid ToV stans 😂

These are all great games with the exception of Xenoblade 2. Xenoblade 1 and 3 would be my choices for this list, but the second installment had so so many problems I wouldn't have included it here. I'm glad you liked it though. Never played Atelier so I can't weigh in on that, but the rest of the list is solid.

Ah man, this is more a matter of purely personal taste than anything else. There is a reason why people like or dislike certain games and it could be because they have captivating characters even if the narrative isn't the best in the world or because the game has a perfect balance between gameplay and narrative, there are games with weak stories that are incredibly good like FFXII. Grandia is a game that in general is so captivating that it makes up for the lack of development of some characters. Star Ocean has always been a game that focused more on your group than on the series' villains. In a way, you're not purely watching an anime or movie when you're playing an RPG because it's a set of factors.
