Great job. George auditioned on an empty public bus riding home with Paul & John. The name Beatles was actually Stu Sutcliffe's idea. Stu wasn't even mentioned here, why? John loved Stu.

Great episode, and thanks. I revere Pete Townshend, and The Who. “Tommy” and “Quadrophenia” got me through some tumultuous times. I saw The Who live at the Charlotte, NC Coliseum in about 1972 (I think, there were drugs involved), and oh, what a show! Been playing “I can see for miles” on my guitar for a few weeks now, and it’s pretty energizing. Rock On, and Long live Pete Townshend!

,I bought the album when it first came out in 1971, and it took about a year of Analyzing the lyrics to realize it was about the death of the 1950s music with Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper in that plane crash, and the Referances to Elvis ( The King) making those hokey Hollywood Movies and Bob Dylan ( the Joker on the side lines) after his motorcycle crash, with the rise of the Beatles and Sgt Pepper.( the Marching Band Refused to yeld) ..the Byrds ( their song, 8 Miles .High) Woodstock (a generation lost in space) all drugged out, the Rolling Stones at Altamont Moter '.Speedway hiring Hells Angles, and Jumping Jack Flash and Sympathy for the Devil (Jack be nimbe, Jack be quick and No Angle Born in Hell could break that Devil's Spell), Janis Joplin. Interesting that he knew the Great Jim Croche at a young age..... I liked Pete Seeger, but knew he was a Commie like his friend Woody Guthrie ( Love his music too) Also, realized the best song on that album was "Vincent" right away.....

My husband was Mitch Ryder 's lead guitarist for nearly 20 years. Mitch sang with Otis the night of the plane crash. It touched Mitch deeply as he respected and loved him. Whatever the cause it was a great loss to the entire world. He was one of the best soul singers who ever lived.

I appreciate your painting the portrait of Otis Reading as personable and charismatic. Star quality at that level is seldom seen. I always found the chord changes to Dock off the Bay to be haunting. They are technically unusual, simply moving the tonality up and down by thirds and whole steps. The guitar sound and soulful vocals certainly captivated a generation of listeners. The release was made eerily significant when Dj's would repeat the announcement of his death before every play. I hope he was not a victim of a plot. I would like to live in a world where due success is not life threatening.

Only 1 small problem..."While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is not really a Rock and Roll song....I know, it Eric Clapton on the Les Paul, but if that was all that was required, all those 80's power ballads wouldn't need a separate classification...They'd just be Rock and Roll, right?...Besides, always one of my least favorite Beatle songs: " I look at the floor and aI see it needs sweeping...."...Now, that's heavy /s...a"I look at YOU ALL...." George whines from his position as both an over rich rockstand and by far the most overrated Beatle...And shouldn't it have been " While Clapton's Guitar Gently Weeps"?

If you truly believe WMGGW doesn't fall into the category of rock and roll, then your definition of the term must be so narrow as to be useless. Also, power ballads are obviously a sub-genre of rock, and not an entirely separate class of music (Vanilla Fudge doing You Keep Me Hanging on comes to mind: slow tempo, plaintive harmonies, and about as heavy as AM rock got back then). One more thing: I don't know if you grew up at the bottom of a pond, but even the most casual Beatles observer knows George was historically UNDERRATED, due to the sometimes subtle (yet vital) nature of his contributions, especially in the early years. The fact that Harrison now tends to get his due from fans doesn't mean he's overrated; it means that over the years his musical legacy has been evaluated more objectively, as we see The Beatles more clearly as having been more than the sum of their parts (Ringo's reputation has grown as well, especially as we've gotten to hear his drumming more clearly on many remastered and remixed tracks).

@Daberney you do not actually refute my points merely parrot the most popular clichés about George found here on KZfaq....When one has NO critical thinking skills on their own, they ALWAYS do this...AND then become offended when you aren't the sheep they are.1. If you believe stating them most immature clichés found in self-help books are the pinnacle in lyric writing, George is your guy..."Think For Yourself" ( a title which is an overused....to put it mildly...cliche itself..Let alone the content)....BUT , hypocritical as it is , you will champion the content while suffering from the malady described.....AND the condescending tone the remedial Harrison takes ( " the things YOU do" ...conversely. " Think for yourself 'cause I won't be there with you.." ) is, to anyone who's objective, off putting...Practically all of his serious work ( " All Things Must Pass"...no that isn't an overused stupid man's idea of philosophy ..."Living In The Material World", "The Lotd Loves The One", "World of Stone"....) suffer from this combination of ignorance and arrogance. But I would expect nothing more from you because you are here trying to pass off clichés in subjective areas as "fact"...Think For Yourself, indeed.....

@@TerryTutor-cv3hh Your crap is really hard to read: Do you have some kind of typist's Tourette syndrome that causes you to use ellipses after nearly every sentence? On top of that, you're all over the map with the spurious points you try to make---thankfully, you abandoned the pointless nonsense regarding whether or not WMGGW qualifies as rock and roll, so we're left with your general idiocy in terms of whether George is "by far" the most overrated Beatle, and your more specific idiocy addressing the lyrics of a couple of his Beatles tracks, along with some solo tracks that have nothing to do with his legacy as a Beatle. I notice your evaluation of that legacy includes zero acknowledgement or analysis of Harrison's musical contributions, in terms of his work as a guitarist whose instinctive riffs were often a large part of what made John and Paul's songs work (You Can't Do That, And I Love Her, I'll Cry Instead, She Loves You, and so on). Your dim view of his songwriting also contains zero musical analysis, probably because you're incapable of it, thus you're stuck nitpicking lyrics because they're not full-blown philosophical treatises---for example, you slam All Things Must Pass and Think For Yourself for employing overused phrases: Do you know one goddamn thing about writing a good pop song? Generally, one of the first things one does is come up with a relatable, often well-worn phrase to use as a hook: I Get A Kick Out of You, Sweet Little Sixteen, Let's Spend the Night Together, P.S. I Love You, You Light Up My Life, Here Comes the Sun (the #1 streamed Beatles song)---good songwriters don't reinvent the wheel every time they begin a lyric. As for whether a song like Think For Yourself is overly preachy, or snarky: Who gives a shit? It sounds great, has an unusual and catchy chord structure and melody, killer 3 part harmonies, which George arranged, and the lyrics scan quite well, while offering some unusual rhymes---and you're offended that the narrator is airing some grievances? Are you also offended that elsewhere on Rubber Soul, John's complaining that he didn't get laid during an overnight visit (Norwegian Wood), complaining about his girlfriend (Girl), or threatening to kill her (Run For Your Life)? As for the song All Things Must Pass, your dismissal of it as a "stupid man's" idea of philosophy would, in an ideal world, earn you a good flogging. It's a nice title for a song (remember what I was saying about relatable lyrical hooks?), a good title for the album, and the metaphors work extremely well with the soaring music of the verses and unexpected minor V of the chorus as Harrison laments the end of a love affair and relates it to the wider ways of the universe. Pretty good for a 4 minute pop song, but apparently not enough for a philosophical genius like you, who doesn't seem to know jack squat about pop, or rock, or The Beatles, or the basics of punctuation.

It was actually Eric Clapton that was behind Jimi's murder. Eric Clapton was jealous of Jimi's talent. Eric Clapton is the man who introduced Jimi to the girl that murdered him. Clapton used those people around Jimi to kill him. Believe it. Eric Clapton also murdered Stevie Ray Vaughn for the same reason.

Well, I can't stand the guy. Great music, lousy greedy human being. Why on earth would you employ 60 people to scour the internet for a snippet of an Eagles song so it can be taken down? If I were Don I would do the opposite. Don't you want your work, your legacy, to endure for future generations? In 100 years, nobody will have heard of that awesome band. When testifying before Congress I thought the blood vessels in his neck would burst. Relax Don, you've been well compensated for your work by your fans. I was one of the biggest. I did a guitar tutorial on "The Last Resort". It was demonetized and removed 3 days later. Don't forget your meds, no one in your position should be that stressed, unhappy and angry on a daily basis.
