Why dont you engineer some fans that dont stop spinning when theres a big load?

@Thermoelectricgener3447: I’m looking for power-generating technology to use with a hot tent stove, for purposes of charging a CPAP unit for somebody in my hiking group. (Our days can be pretty short here, and we can go for weeks without seeing the sun, so solar is out.) But it’s a pretty sure bet, that we will end up cooking over the fire, and probably sitting around it for some time, and most likely also using it to warm the tent in the evenings; It’s not hard to find abundant fuel for a woodstove here. I’m wondering how much a complete setup for safely charging a battery to keep a CPAP going all night long would weigh, how much stove surface area such a unit would really require in order to be able to optimally charge, Including thermal, electric fan, or anything else that should also sit on the stove, what the rate of power generation would be using one of your units, whether I could safely strap one of those onto the stoves sides or underside, and if you have a dealer in Canada. This looks like a pretty innovative idea, and it could make a big difference to The length of time that our little group can spend in the woods and the length of the hikes that we can take on. Thank you, and I’m looking forward to hearing back from you soon!😊

Is there any way to design it to cut off the load if the fan stops working, in order to prioritize the fan?

I'm confused. Why would anyone use a wood stove to produce 45 watts of electricity? How much wood do you need to generate one kw? I know you said you're and engineering student. When the first "thermoelectric" technology came out I became interested in it, 20 tears ago. The best applications (so far) are the "pellet stoves". The heat by-product generates electricity to drive the pellet stove fan. Great for cabins off grid. I think your experiment is a good one but not yet practical as source of electricity. As the technology gets better, I believe "thermoelectric" technology will be a valuable source of electricity for folks off the grid. I also believe that 30 years from now we will have houses 100% making their own electricity from solar, wind and thermoelectric. Once the technology gets maturing even small units capturing heat from air conditioning and refrigeration can capture waste heat and turn it into electricity to increase the efficiency.

Is it possible to design it so that a fan is not required. Will a passive sealed capillary heat pipe (on the hot that needs to be cooled) extending outward from the stove a bit and with a finned surface bonded to it (in the free air) work effectively enough to "move" the heat to the room air without any fan?

The power output is really for emergency use only. At 45W running 24/7 you get around 1kWh of energy in a day and it probably won't work all day every day. Better buy a solar panel (or two), one cheap 12V MPPT and four 300Ah LFP cells. You get 3.8kWh of storage and some useful power, depending on the inverter.

Hi there, what kind of setup with your wood stove that the chimney tied into and does that exhaust to the outside. This is the first time I have seen this setup and curious if you could share with. Many thanks. r/Hank

What a joke. Only need a solar generator and panel for same cost and get triple the output. $521.99 for this piece. Of crap.

So this generator has to be monitored 24/7 so the fans do not stop turning. Good prototype but still needs a lot of work to make it viable.

I like it, but the watts seem low. 45 watts will keep a 40 watt light bulb going and that's it. How about maybe using it as a charger to recharge batteries to run things at night time. Other than that I just don't see an advantage to it. Cost?

Led lights are very low load, could easily charge batteries so long as it's over 12v. 14.4 would be ideal.

Pretty cool device…but it isn’t powerful enough to power all your needs, just recharges a cellphone or tablet at a time and is easy to damage. I can’t justify over 400 dollars for a glorified cellphone charger. Hand crank generator is cheaper and more reliable phone charger.

KATYDID MIGHT get 4 hours heat on a load of wood. All talk about TEG and WATER accessories - 2024 and still no plan. 4 hours burn and TEG would provide little usable energy - run a circulating fan whilst burning.

This seems to be developed by industrial controls people. That is not a compliment. I've worked in IT as a Network Operations Manager for years, and some of the worst stuff I've had to deal with has been industrial controls (HVAC controls, door controllers, etc). My theory is that they try to piece together "units" of different types that kindof do part of a thing they are trying to do and get it to mostly work and sell it. I'm basing the comparison on the fact that overloading the output can shut the fans down and "damage the unit." The protections for that would have been cheap, simple, and would use no power to speak of during normal operations. So, TEGpro has designed something that will probably do mostly ok as long as you treat it with kit-gloves. A good design to do this with protections would have been very easy and cost wouldn't be an issue. Edit: Wow. Now I see. They saw the problem and instead of handling it, they point to you a product that handles it. Problem says you? Sales opportunity says I.

Think I'd rather have one that clamps on, rather than having the magnet shut off and fall, possibly damaging it. Still very interested in these units; I plan to move further out and would like this as a backup.

This fire pit is one of a few covered pits that is on the list kzfaq.infoUgkxAU9pOCSV9Y5JprooHvfxTpOrt4hx8uRM of approved products for Disney Fort Wilderness. The product served its purpose well and provided excellent fires throughout the evening. We were able to open the door and do s'mores, but I had to be careful because the handle was a bit hot on occasions. Additionally, I wish they had replaced some of the standard nuts with lock nuts in some places. We lost the door handle after just a couple of days of usage. Not a deal breaker, just a recommendation. I still give it 5 stars.

I'm concerned about the instruction to monitor the fan to ensure that you are not overloading it, and the resulting damage if you don't. What if you have it heating over a variable heat source, like a campfire? As the heat decreases, you'd have to decrease load. If it was charging a battery for example, and you fell asleep or didn't notice that the fan had stopped, the whole $300 unit could be ruined. Seems like it should self limit the output power to retain enough for self preservation... 🤔

Hi Ted Pro. Will your 45 watt generator power a woodstove blower ? I have two 30 watt fans on my blaze king Sirocco 2.01 woodstove. Could I run these fans on 2 of your 45 watt generators ? Thanks. 😊 Is it a pass thru generator ? Or can I run the fans while the woodstove is charging the generators ?
