I wonder if this text will help someone realise what binaural audio is? I put my own explanation to ChatGPT to rewrite it in laymen terms, I also changed a few words it used so that it read better. The outer part of our ears, called the pinna, plays a crucial role in how we perceive binaural audio, which is 3D sound. Unlike what some might think, the pinna isn't just a collector of sound; instead, it acts like a special device that modifies the sounds it receives. The unique shape of the pinna, with its ridges and parabolic form, creates different tones depending on the direction of the sound. This helps us understand if a sound is coming from above, below, in front, or behind us. Contrary to the belief that the pinna is there to collect sounds like animal's ears, like a horse or a cat, it's actually modifying the sounds before they reach our ear canal through the ridges and parabola of the ear. The shape of our pinna is more like a tool for creating specific tones based on the direction of the sound, making it easier for our brains to pinpoint where the sound is coming from. You can see the pinna visibly, making it the only organ in our body where we can observe how it works. Understanding the principles of sound helps us see how the pinna modifies sound. Without the pinna, our ability to perceive the direction of sounds in space would be compromised, and we would feel like sounds are coming from inside our heads, just as stereo sounds do. In the world of binaural audio, which aims to replicate human hearing, creating a binaural recording device that mimics an individual's pinna is essential. Recording and playing back through headphones, neck speakers, or correctly positioned speakers with separate left and right channels allows us to perceive sounds around and behind us. While some sources incorrectly describe the pinna as a sound collector, understanding its true function would enhance our grasp of binaural audio. In a nutshell, the pinna is a vital part of binaural audio, infusing directional information into our ear canal for external sound perception with spatial orientation. Even though its mechanics are often misunderstood, realizing that it's not just a sound collector but a modifier helps us appreciate its role in binaural audio.

This sounds awesome And... you could also try using neck speakers with binaural audio! Depending on what you have recorded will depend on where you perceive the sounds from of course, but when you hear the sounds coming from above the speakers it would do your noggin in!
