Looks nice! I just love the fact how aging diecast cars kinda reflects how actual cars are aging in a scrapyard. I got some of my older Matchbox/Hot wheels cars that are more than suitable for this and i always wanted to make some dioramas like this, if only i would have the time for it.

Thank you. It's good fun putting a diorama like this together. You should definitely try it. But you're right about finding the time, I don't have as much spare time to work on this as I'd like, so it's slow progress. Thanks for watching.

Yes, there's a lot of stuff there for the price, and a lot I can make use of. Prices on ebay seem to be getting more expensive now.

Starting to look nice and busy. You'll be thinking about stacking some of those motors, and maybe stripping a few of them back and whacking the remains with a hammer! I do like that caravan! Next up, a forklift to start stacking with!

Hi 👋 Im viewing from New Zealand. Growing up in the 1960s i had a selection of metal diecast toy cars. Dinky , Corgi , and Spot On models. I like the Princess and the Honda sports car is cool with the orange interior and sunroof. Sad about the damage with the Opel. Otherwise it could have been a good model. From Carl.
@robsterbob580
@robsterbob580 11 күн бұрын
Thanks Carl. I really like the older diecast models. I grew up with them in the 70s and 80s, so Spot On models were a little bit before my time, but they are really nice and very collectable. The Opel has been donated to Martin Dares Dinky Restorations, so he might just be able to save it! Thanks for watching.

The great thing about dioramas is that no one. no one, can tell you it's wrong! Beavering away and looking good! Old tired herbs - you know the pot of coriander flakes that you've had for five years past the sell-by date - get it on there. Bit of a balsa lean-to for the outside of the barn..? Maybe get a pair of nippers and flatten some tyres? Cars are coming on great! Crashed any yet? The Triumph Herald/Vitesse was a component car: the roofs on the convertible, coupe, saloon and Courier van were all interchangeable so you could easily remove the roof from the Herald and it would still look the part, as long as the upholstery was manky and had a big dog living in it!

Some great ideas there, thanks. I've not got any crash damaged cars yet, but I certainly will be doing some. It's all good fun, deciding what vehicles and other things to put on the diorama.

This is looking really good, Bob, the yard is coming on nicely, and the cars with the worn paint are excellent, like you mentioned there is a tendency to go over the top with the rust , because rust works from the inside to the outside. Keep it going

Make as many videos as you like! It's all of interest! Save all your dust and muck, Bob: it is useful later for - err, dust and muck! The 'field' is brilliant! On the weathering, I struggle too - I reckon 'less is more' based on the experience I have attempted. I would not scrapyard those Commers, or the Thames, though! The Transit could be the scrappy's wheels - so keep it as a mobile unit, and the caravan is the office! The Austin A35 in black is quite rare, I think: I'd hang on to that! Remember the Range Rover is aluminium, so careful with the rust effect!
@robsterbob580
@robsterbob580 25 күн бұрын
I've made some real progress with it today. Had some fun with scenery and detailing cars. I agree, the Thames Airborne camper van is too nice for the diorama. Good call on the Range Rover, they do rust, but only on the tailgate and the chassis.

@frasermartin6728
@frasermartin6728 27 күн бұрын
I am looking forward to that developing too. Scrapyards and workshops are great fun to do because you can't really get anything wrong. I scratch-built an Airflite caravan out of plastic card as a static office, 'fitted' with a stovepipe fire and a log for chopping other logs on! Sometimes, you can get carried away... The scrapyard is a great place for keeping models you don't really like but can't bear to part with - like you Ghia L64, which, if closely surrounded in due course, would barely be recognisable! I put a Range Rover P38 in a bag and drove my car over it after stripping and removing some of the components. A liberal coating of hairspray on the remnants, and with it placed carefully, and still tacky, on the garage floor, soon had it appropriately aged as I swept the floor around it!

Thanks for the encouragement, some great ideas there. I like the sound of what you did with the Range Rover, brilliant! I have a caravan for the diorama now, but it needs a bit of work. I'm thinking of other things to put in to add interest. I have a 1/50 scale dodgem bumper car that I might put in there too! I've bought a few cars for the scrapyard now too. Update video on the way...

Just subscribed! Martin Dare recommended and he was not wrong! That little AA Land Rover Hardtop was a bit of a peach, and it'll restore well: quite rare, I imagine. Bonneted trucks were generally for export as the FC units were difficult to work on. That Imp'll do nicely! I got an excellent donation of the Jeep Conveyor truck from Martin, which came without the conveyor belts, and ordered replacement belts. They lasted three months in good ambient conditions, despite my location, so be warned if you need to replace! I need to get some more already, and i didn't even get to pay with it! They are a bugger to meddle with and rebuild, but quite satisfying in the end. I liked the Spot On Wraith too. I liked the Corgi Healey and Mini Van - it would be interesting to look at this and the Spot On side by side to see where the scales differ... The Bike is a Triumph, I think, and should have had a sidecar. The Trans-o-Lite P6 Rover is a great base for Code3! The King Size Caterpillar D9 does makes a good prop for a low loader: I have mine sitting on a Bedford. Send the Chitty to Kev for a proper Banger racer! The TK cab is always useful: you should keep that! Great video, and interesting haul. Thank you for sharing your bargain!

Thanks so much for the encouraging comments. I will be ordering some parts from Steve Flowers for some of these models. Thanks for the heads up about the conveyor belts on the Jeep, interesting to know the replacements don't last. I might do a comparison video of the Corgi and Spot On Mini vans, good idea. Thanks for watching. 👍
