Just read Zach Schonfeld's smug, condescending, disrespectful, arrogant dismissal of Steely Dan's 2001 Grammy award for the superb album Two Against Nature. And he even throw's Stevie Wonder under the bus too... I kid you not!) What a twit. 🙄

It's a shame that Arkin couldn't have done a short nationwide tour with Little Murders, doing screenings and taking questions. It is an amazing film, filled with manic energy, brilliant commentary and terrific characters. It still is a lot to take in within a single viewing, but is one of the great films of the seventies. So much of the toxic politics and distorted humanism pushed now by progressives is set up in this film, so it feels very fresh and contemporary in a bizarre way. Thank you, Mr. Arkin, and God Bless!

So delighted to have been part of contributing to this wonderful and unique biography of my longtime friend, Nicolas Cage, whom I worked with in the early to mid-80's. It's a great read, Zach. I recommend to all movie fans of bios. Cheers, Chip Miller (director/screenwriter/producer)

Nice Bruh! Love that you’re continuing to educate our young ones! We OG have benefited from your knowledge as well. I bought both your books back in the day and followed your podcast with Pete Chatmon back in the day. I got to get my hands on your new book. I’m likewise sharing what I know and directing young ones to valuable resources.

The idea of being able to meet your parents when you are mature and your parents are more or less the same age, and can have a mature conversation about your childhood, where mistakes can be owned and memories can be talked over in such a gentle, honest and self-responsible way, is very poignant.

One of the best films of the decade... I was lucky enough to see it in Australia in one of the few indie cinemas that are playing it , and there is no legal way to watch this here online yet..... But I almost had to walk out of the film during the coming out to Mum scene as it was word for word for my own experience with my mother in the 1980's.

This is probably the best movie I've seen. It is amazing! I love everything, but most especially how it's written. Such a brilliant mind to create this movie. Brought me into a world of different emotions.

I watched this on Amazon this past week and I'm in utter disbelief that it got zero nominations - and I say this as someone who loves Barbie and Oppenheimer - All of Us Strangers really was the best film of 2023. Wish I got to see this masterpiece sooner.

Usually films get to DVD eventually, which is really nice when it's a classic on Criterion with additional chat. Or just making it available from the public library.

It's easy to see how Andrew Scott so nailed his performance. Even being himself, he emotes with his hands, with his legs and with his face. He's a natural born actor!

Janet Maslin should be quiet and listen ....... stop talking!
@treesny

I might agree if her questions were superficial or cliched. But actually I feel they exhibit a keen sensitivity to so many facets of the film -- writing, directing, acting, visual design and cinematography -- and as a result bring forth some terrific answers. (Very good questions from the sudience too.) Bell, Scott and Haigh all seem exceptionally relaxed and open. Of all the interviews I've seen around All Of Us Strangers, this is the only one by a film critic with such longtime experience and in-depth knowledge, and that's a big positive. Thank you.

Despite her reputation, and many past achievements, Janet Maslin does not seem a good interviewer for this film. Her hesitancy, her constant “ums” and “ars”, plus her many interruptions were far from helpful. Then her inappropriate attempts at humour just distracted from the power of the film and the issues it was addressing. Still Scott and his colleagues brought a fascinating depth of understanding to the discussion that is not normal in such interviews. The Billy Elliot comment Maslin made was ghastly and led to a long, jumbled and feeble series of questions that Jamie Bell answered far better than she deserved. All in all, I felt she simply lacked the sensitivity to deal with this powerful, sophisticated and emotionally sensitive masterwork and it was a great achievement on the part of the actors and director that we still ended up with some valuable insights into its production.

OMG, it was a conversation! And Maslin knows what she's talking about. I think people's negative reaction to her is possibly exacerbated because she was not seen on screen and therefore felt like an extraneous presence.

I liked the movie! I am glad that they addressed at 9:00 about the last scene where young Finn does the short video and was wondering if it was actually an old video. It looked real! I think people who are socially awkward would find the movie relatable. It shows the struggle of these two characters who want to connect but find it difficult to do so. Both of them are doing questionable things, but I felt more angry towards the mother, especially when she insults Ziggy at the dinner table over his passion and money issue. I get that Ziggy is a teenager who is still learning (so I will give him the leeway) but why is the mother so nasty? I understand that some people segregate their work life and private life so distinctly, that she is "helpful" at work but won't wait for her son for more than 5 seconds. Uggghhhh. Her infatuation with that teenager was so cringy. The confrontation scene towards the end was beautifully done. I loved the look on her when she realized that she was being perceived as exploitative and predatory by Kyle, in the scene when he asks if she would kick them out, his mother feels safe (and didn't include himself) and finally addressed her formally.
