Thank you so much for the amazing video! If I may ask, did you feel altitude sickness during your time at Tioga Pass? I’m visiting Yosemite soon, and I don’t want my fear of becoming sick to hold me back from taking in these breathtaking views !!!

Id get rid of the sink in bathroom out. Use the kitchen sink for hygiene as well as cleaning dishes. Would open the toilet for a much more comfortable squat.
@AndyOnTheMountain7 күн бұрын
I’ve been thinking about getting rid of the bathroom sink actually. We’ve done a lot of “remodeling” since this video. Large kitchen sink Removed grey & black water tank And some other random things like paint and shelves. We also got rid of the old toilet and use a compost toilet now. Very enjoyable so far.

I watched just to see what routes were included. Yosemite is a N.A Mecca with easily 100, if not 100's of climbs at 5.8 or under. I feel so fortunate to have made my first of dozens of a pilgrimage in 78. The fact that you can climb 'down valley' at Arch and the Cookie on a sunny winter day, be in the Valley proper in May, Tuolumne for June, July and August and back to the valley for September and October is just amazing ! A complete wonderland for the new comer, a Disneyland for the seasoned and zoo for the veterans. A mistake so many climbers make is to say "I am not good enough to go to the Valley yet" (fallacy). If you climb all summer at a small local crag, you will get way better after two months in the Valley than two full seasons at your local crag. Literally 100's of routes under 5.10a and a 5.8 climber can usually progress to moderate ten's (opening up 1000's of potential classics) in a month or two :)
@AndyOnTheMountain9 күн бұрын
Thanks for commenting - Also you having the opportunity to climb in the valley in the 70’s, very cool. I’m sure it’s changed a bit (more crowded, better gear, easier information on the routes). This was my first time climbing in Yosemite and boy was I a bit intimidated - especially when we climbed some of the base routes off El Cap, staring up at thousands of feet of perfect granite. I definitely felt the 5.7 in the valley was way more difficult then a 5.7 up in Tuolumne. I can’t wait to go back (headed there this weekend). Yosemite is a special place! Thanks for your comment Gilray. Cheers

Hey man, just curious why not using the inner over your bivy + dcf ground sheet. Volume and weight I think would be almost the same and you have more comfort with the inner. Not sure if I’m correct though.
@AndyOnTheMountain28 күн бұрын
Great question Peter. I did't purchase the inner net mostly because I'm trying to use gear I already have. I also like having a modular shelter. The bivy provides extra wind protection when above tree line compared to the inner net which it does not. Lastly when the weather is nice I don't have to set up the tent, I can slide right into my bivy which is super quick. Cheers

I also just received a Black Diamond 22 liter running vest style bag to try out. I'm deciding that no pack will be perfect for every activity... What pack/packs do you enjoy? Cheers.

Does the dyneema material from this shelter absorb the odor from flatulence at the same ratio as standard nylon sil shelters? In my experience, nylon sil shelters have to be thrown away after approximately 62 dehydrated meals consumed on backcountry trips. Henceforth, solo trekkers can get a full 62 nights under a shelter, while couples typically only get 31 nights under the shelter before the shelter must be thrown away for potential safety concerns. The absorbed methane into the fabrics and materials of shelters from backcountry meal induced flatulence is a serious hazard that is rarely talked about in outdoor community. One morning, you may go to light up your stove and the entire shelter explodes and kills everyone in the immediate vicinity. I presume that this is the number 2 cause of forest fires in the western U.S. just behind lighting strikes? If the shelter is setup up in windy areas, sometimes the life expectancy of the shelter may be increased passed the 62 meal quota, but exact windspeed to meal ratios are still being calculated and are debated by the scientific and research community. Based off of the weave structure of the dyneema, and the naturally hydophobic nature of the fabric, I would estimate that this structure may make it passed the highly sought after 200 dehydrated meal quota before it must be decommissioned. Without proper field studies performed that limit the extraneous variables in the experiments, it would be hard to come up with an exact calculation to verify my estimated 200 meal quota hypothesis on this structure. Do you have an educated hypothesis on this matter based off of your ample field experience with this shelter?
@AndyOnTheMountainАй бұрын
Hi, my hypothesis based off the experience with this shelter is to live a little Timmy! Also what about Ramen dinners? Or maybe I bring a sandwich and don't eat dehydrated. Now that's going to change the whole systematic approach to this. Lot's of variables and so many farts to be had. Enjoy those smelly nights. :)

Before you went inside, I was going to say that you're not an authentic YT camper liver-inner unless you take that very nice camper and start tearing it apart, for a remodel. Then, alas, you go in and state that you will be tearing it apart for a remodel. There must be some kind of lethal gas, that these campers give off, that makes people who say they want the simple life of camper living, to feel that they must dis-embowel their perfectly nice camper and turn it into a huge remodel headache.. Geeze loueeze!

Must be the black water tank fumes coming up through the flooring.. You know I guess it’s kind of like buying an old home- when she’s old you want to remodel the interior and make it more of your style and nicer looking. This is home. But anyway I haven’t remodeled anything. Only installed some necessary things.

You're absolutely right about that. Just trying to live a good one. A few things done to the rig/camper. -Upgraded some suspension on the truck. SumoSprings on the rear axle to help reduce swaying - Dometic AC unit on the roof -Solar upgrade to 200 watt panel on roof + charge controller - New roof maxair fan Resealed roof seams -Interior I swapped out the old bed to one that's multipurpose (I can cowboy camp outside with it our use it inside) very comfortable. -Tossed the living room table to make the coach/seating area more open. - We are hoping to add some paint to the kitchen in the next few weeks. I would like to make a video soon on the camper & the upgrades. Thanks for checking out the video. Cheers
