He was a midfielder who could not tackle, back when tackling in midfield was important. Yes passing is important But without roy keane, what would scholes have been Playing for england, you saw scholes without roy keane beside him doing all the tackling in midfield, and the hard work. How could you be a great center midfielder if you could not tackle in midfield when tackling was a massive part of the job? Its like stam was easily best defender under alex ferguson, but people remember people like rio ferdinand. Rio was well over rated Stam, was easily man utd best defender in alex ferguson years, and i was so glad when he sold stam. Biggest mistake alex ferguson made. Makes me laugh hearing people pick man utd best players in fergies years Stam was easily the best defender fergie had I stopped watching arsenal in 2002. Stam was responsible for stopping us winning at least 2 more leagues in those years, and man utd got them All down to yapp stam, and no one else, i was so glad alex ferguson sold him, he was a man mountain at the back for man utd.

Hot take here but I think De Gea and Juan Mata would make great free signings for McKenna at Ipswich Town, bringing some much needed experience to up the Championship/League One level players game.

Dam that suck because not even the small clubs want him

The thing is, it’s really been exaggerated how “bad” he is with his feet by everyone. It’s not THAT bad. He’s just not that 11th outfielder. Maybe this makes him less desirable for a top team, but there are plenty of top goalkeepers who aren’t as good with their feet. Nick Pope was arguably the best in the league last season, and he’s nothing special with the ball at his feet. Areola has been one of the best this season, and he’s a classic shot stopper, too. It doesn’t help that De Gea is terrible rushing off of his line as well, so that makes it worse, but I think he’s just been treated this badly cuz he played for United for so long. It was the right time for him to be let go. He made too many mistakes in his last season. Especially shot stopping mistakes, which is where the line was drawn. However, I hope he finds the right team to suit his style, and he continues his career at least into his late 30s. He was still making better saves than any other keeper in the world last season. His reflexes are not human.

I have been wathcing united over the years and lets just say that de gea doesnt need to play the ball with his feet because united cant play out from the back, however onana who has proved elsewhere he can play with his feet but he doesnt at united and his half the shotstopper de gea is

i'm not a Liverpool fan (i support Tottenham), but i hope to see Loris Karius thrive one day. GK can have longer careers than other positions, so Karius still has time left - as Karius is 30 years old currently in 2024.

I'm sorry, but those "little cracks, little mistakes" are forgiven if you play at a sunday league as a guy who works all week, no training and not getting paid a cent per game. This man had everything, and let those errors grow. Even in the final if he felt something off he had to ask for a sub change.

He was elbowed by S.Ramos who went on and dislocated Salah's shoulder in that match, nothing Karius alone could fix as they were VARdrid'ed and none of the players or staff complained.

Strikers often miss open nets or clear cut chances in important games, but they would never receive the treatment Karius did for that one game. Such is the life of a goalkeeper. Harsh

As great as he was, he sure as got himself booked a lot. That's the best part about what Sir Alex and the Man United academy teams were able to do was find that talent. Scholes was part of that generational players with Phil and Gary Neville, Nicky Butt, and David Beckham. If can get 2 players on the first team to turn out great on a team that's wonderful. But 5 and win multiple league, FA Cups, and a Champions League is just great. The only other team that had that generational success is Barcelona in the 2000's when it came to their academy players.
