Locking Hubs - How Do They Work ?

I don't understand, WHY do you need locking hubs????? From what I've seen, its just an annoying and completly useless extra step to get into 4wd.
@vitmods7086

Hi there, no mate you have these as they are far more reliable, better fit fuel economy, you can unlock one side of you break a shaft, you can run in low box in 2wd, ist put power to the rear for winch turning, you leave them locked when off roading and just switch between 2 and 4wd - so basically far more advantages than disadvantages

@@vitmods7086 Mate, thanks for your reply! But I still don't understand. In my mind, it goes like this: A normal 4wd vehicle, with a lever on the cabin to connect 2hi, 4hi and 4lo, no front locker. With locking hubs, in theory, I could make it... let's say, 3-wheel drive if need by some reason (By unlocking one of the hubs), is this correct? - But then, let's say that I have both hubs UNlocked and I want to engage 4wd, I would have to engage 4wd on the cabin AND lock the hubs, that would be an extra step, am I right? Also, hub lockers do not work as a diff locker from what I just saw. Again, thanks for taking the time to reply to my comments.

Hi mate, what Land Rover steering arms have you used there? and what modifications did you have to do to make them work with the Trooper? They look waaaay better than the stock ones. Cheers

Is that "hinge" between flansch and strut necessary while driving or just for installation? I could custom fit one to my car, but the hinges would make that far more work. Also: i think i would go with stainless steel, because low grade, easy to weld aluminium is pretty weak but still far harder to weld and warps more than stainless. Edit: i would screw on the flansch measure twice, then cut bend and grind a tube to fit and weld (TIG weld, no sparks inside the engine bay, heat-source in a constant stream of inert argon gas) it all together, when the car sits on it's own weight.

If I leave the front hubs unlocked, and put it in 4L, can I still use low range with open front diff? Or do I need to lock the front hubs if I’m going into 4H or 4L? Is it ok to leave them locked, when driving in 2H? Thanks in advance!
@urishaham2544
@urishaham2544 Жыл бұрын
Leaving the hubs unlocked in 4L will give you rear wheel drive in low range. Totally possible to drive like that.

Yes, but your fuel economy suffers. Just don't leave them unlocked for too long.

What tyre pressures are you running, they look quite hard? Have you tried about 10 - 15 psi for better traction? In reality, with reduction gears and front and rear lockers, you should be walking that course not struggling. We do harder driving than that on the tracks here is Oz, have a watch of this kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b7l2ndN_282tgn0.html

interesting intake set up. is it the stock setup with heat-tape over the top and holes drilled into it? notice a performance improvement?
@vitmods7086
@vitmods7086 Жыл бұрын
Hi there The tape is just to try and reduce the heat soak and the holes to try and get more air in the intake - it all makes a nice deep throaty noise, you are never going to notice much increase in power but it can’t hurt to get better air flow 👍🏻
