The Anytone878II-Plus is an amazing radio for reasonable money, of course every person has different opinions and what they need the radio for or what they are willing to spend.

I agree. It is a solid radio. Probably one of the best ones on the market.

9:00 Yaesu indeed feels ancient and hard to program, but still I like it. Last week I tried to program the Yaesu ft70 and it took me some time as a 22 year old grown up with computers. Still they gave clear instructions for the programming and if you read them all the way, I think anyone can program a Yaesu. What I really like about the software, is that it is soo rudimentary. This makes it more likely that it will work on future and older computers, even if Yaesu goes out of business. It just makes the Yaesu radios feel like less of a planned obsolescence product.

I wore a set of Heil Elite 6’s for hours on end last field day (over 600 voice contacts) and had zero issues with the cups, hot ears, etc. While they have differently shaped ear “cupc” they, as well as the 7’s have cloth covers that go over the ear pads and work quite well. As for closing off outside noise…. Duh that’s what they’re for. To remove the outside audio sources that make it more difficult to work those weak stations. Horrible for music- they aren’t for music. Heil is an audio genius and Heil headsets are optimized for amateur radio. Who cares about music? Wouldn’t take $300 headset to the field? Well many of us bring $1000 plus radios to the field. 7300’s, Elecraft rigs, etc. $300 for a headset that kicks behind? Not necessary but definitely nice if you have access. Personally I’m torn between Elite 6 and Pro 7. 6’s fold up quite a bit while 7’s don’t. 7’s have a headset jack so someone can monitor while 6’s don’t. I’ll probably go with 7’s because if the external headphone Jack and my being an instructor.

I was wondering what advantage or use would it be to use my amateur license to fly my DJI mini 2 or any drone?
@kd9nrt2 ай бұрын
It really only comes into play if you plan to build your own drone. Running an off-the-shelf drone, like DJI or Autel, won't use your license.

I would put the Anytone AT-D878UVII Plus up against any HT at any price, feature by feature. Before your subscribers get side-tracked, DMR is considered by most digital uses as the clearest. tone of the three most popular digital modes.

I don't get the obsession with earbuds. Headphones and earbuds are inferior quality audio compared to a real speaker setup. The only place where earbuds are necessary is crowded public spaces, headphones are only really useful because of outside noise deadening. The whole idea that earbuds have any place in radio seems meaningless, and to rate earphones for anything but sound deadening for radio also makes zero sense. The values and factors used in this video's judgement are the least valuable I have ever come across on the subject.

I have had a Yaesu VX 170 for 20 years. Had to replace the battery with an aftermarket. It is built like a tank, dropped it from the top of the refrigerator, off a 2nd floor balcony, and barely a scratch. Excellent volume! Bought an Anytone 3 years ago, was frustrated with it, and put it away for 2 years. I dug it out a few weeks ago, and earnestly watched about a hundred short videos on KZfaq about it, and changed my mind about it. Not easy software, but not as daunting as I thought a few years ago. It is a radio originally designed as a business radio. It is designed to do almost anything, too much in my opinion, and if I were King, I would eliminate half the shit from the radio and software. It was adopted by the amateur industry. I would have to agree with this commenter.

I’m a fan of this rig. It’s definitely on my must buy list for 2024. I already own the FT-897D, and will definitely get the FT-DX10 down the road; but if forced to only own one radio as a base station, the FT-991A is my default choice.

I have an early model. I use the sh-- out of mine. I bought it for DMR on another ham's recommendation. After programming I could not get it to work. I put in on the shelf for a couple of years. Then one day I pull it out and actually learned how DMR actually works. Been my go to ever since. I literally use it every day. The Japanese companies need to step up their games and give us the features we want. The cheap chinese radios are going to eclipse their market share.

APRS is misunderstood and overrated. DPRS is a conversion spec to present ICOM GPS data to the APRS world. Since you have a GPS built in, you don’t need APRS on D-Star. That’s kind of the whole point and why ICOM implemented DPRS instead. If you have it enabled, most people can see where you are while talking anyway. A Tri-band would be nice, but I imagine that $600 price point would jump to $800. Many people think these are expensive radios, and for many they are, but since the P25 stuff (new anyway) cost so much more, I think this radio is a value at $600. I just know that no radio is perfect.

Then you complain because it won’t stay in frame but you keep moving it lol…. In your opinion would the anytone work as good on GMRS as it does everything else? I only have my gmrs license so far, but will be getting my ham in January. Do you think it’s too much radio to start with? I have a baofeng BF-H6 right now and I’m looking to upgrade.

I think they are sticking with at mini usb for backwards compatibility. If you already paid up for the camera mic and WiresX cables it would be bummer to have to buy new ones. That same camera mic works on the FTM-200/300/400 too.

But the camera mic isn't that great. It is a good concept, but the execution is poor.

Don't get frustrated. Documentation is written by those who are experienced, meaning that new users get left behind. Find a local club. That is really important. Find someone in there to mentor you through the process. If you still have problems, let me know and I'll see how much I can help you.

I'm an Extra Class Ham (AF7i) and have a DJI Avata but am interested in building some FPV drones My QTH is Idaho Mts and fly in canyon's to deal with so more power would be good. I have no QRM problems . Trouble is I know next to know nothing on the gear. Whos the Ham Radio Outlet or maybe the HeathKit of the 21st century. I looked on KZfaq for build videos and they look easy. I've built a SB220 and ran a kilowatt I ran 500 Watts on 2Meters once but it was hard on the transistors once but was more of a DX'er but some UHF and a few C and Ku band 2-way satellite systems. Only on 2M any more. I am part 107 FAA. Can I put my Call sign on drones that I use for recreationally? Just subscribed.

Is there any way to operate it without using he touchscreen? I guess maybe remotely on a computer, but I'm not sure if that would limit functionality. Also, the headphone jack doesn't align correctly with a standard 3.5 mm stereo headphone's plug. The manual shows a standard plug on page 16, so I'm not sure why it doesn't work - of course the headphones work fine on other devices that use this same style of port. I thought maybe it was a grounding issue, but have since determined that it isn't. I'd hate to have to send it in for warranty just for that, but I do want the headphone jack to work so I can monitor and transmit at the same time without issue and to better copy marginal receptions. Cheers.
@kd9nrt9 ай бұрын
You can control is using software like fldiji. The 3.5 mm works for me. I use a Heil headset and Sony headphones when portable, and both headphones work without adapters.
