A lovely film. So sad to see how Norwich is transforming into a less pleasant place as the population changes and we become less happy and cohesive.

Note the predominance of adults and families in these videos. Now the city centres of the UK have been completely overrun by teenagers and people in their twenties, young binge drinkers and even children without their parents to supervise them.

I knew Norfolk was a bit backward, but I never realised they were still using horse-drawn public transport in the 1980s

😂🤣😀 Yea we so backward. We didnt have the car till in to the 90's. Didnt get the pill till the late 80's. And for some reason before the 70's we had to weave our own socks. I mean we werent even discovered til the Edwardian period. Some of this is a staged production to show of an older time sweetheart. You know. Like the wicker man film. Bless you though and takecare from Narch

Hard to know what to say about this. I was 12 when this was filmed, and have lived in Norwich all my life, and still do. Good to look back, but also sad to see what we had and have lost. The market is now a sterile place which is mainly food stalls, no brewery, colmans, chocolate factory etc. Even the roundabouts on the ring road, which used to be covered in floral displays are left to overgrow. Maybe it's the country rather than the city. Even this years Lord Mayors procession banned floats because of pollution, yet allows 30 year old buses to run through St Stephens and Castle Meadow whilst bannig cars, incl electric ones. Internet shopping and the cost of living has taken it's toll on shopping. At least I was there to witness the Fine City, shame we never appreciate what we have until it's gone!

I'm much older than you and I agree, what a lot we have lost. I remember when the Norwich Union first used the phrase 'A fine city' for their advwertising. They also produced a magnificent set of Photos to use in their adverts. Its sad to look back but we must be positive and try to show to best effect what we still have left.

I live in one of those prefabs. It's still true today that prefab houses (the single storey prefab bungalows were all demolished) are highly sought after. Landlords love getting their mitts on them because they can charge rent on 6 - 8 individual students per house, without feeling cramped. It's sad though, as these homes were meant for post war, homeless families. I can only imagine the sheer joy for those post war families who were housed in them. Some, like mine, have small extensions on the side (no idea why, but only a few do) which are nothing more than a small storage area & a tiny toilet. What bliss for many who had only previously ever had outdoor lavatories - some shared in the old courtyards in the city centre. Not only did they now have an indoor toilet in the upstairs bathroom, but they also had another downstairs, also indoors. Having a small dining room had to be the icing on the cake. I can understand why many families refused to leave. They'd gone from living in slum housing, to what must've felt like a palace.

Great archive. If only they knew then that just 40 years later, we would have surveillance cameras up everywhere. Police people not trying to offend anyone whilst crime sky rockets. And to top it all the city council would be supporting a fascist government in Ukraine!!

Your comments at the 1:01:14 mark regarding not being able to share other alternative treatments like Vit. D are very key to what is going on today with the weaponization of the law. I highly advise you to look at this discussion on You Tube - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n7aKZ9p6tJeqcYE.html It is very troubling that our own citizens are being targeted and being made as examples to shut them down.
