so during a match, there will only be the defense vs the offense, not defense & offense vs the other teams' defense and offense?

Yeah, I’m going to assume you are more familiar with rugby and soccer (as the concept of both teams on the field at the same time pertain to those sports). Think of football as a tactical-specialized rugby, instead of constant playing it is a play-stop-play-stop. But in those stops on between plays the offense must choose a play and the defense must choose a scheme. The offense and defense switch either when the offense scores points or if the defense forces a stop or a turnover.

Not to be rude, but I have one correction. A Middle Linebacker, sometimes called the “QB of the defense,” calls the plays. They decide what each person does in a play, and they tell the defense the plays coach wants to put into use.

Delay of game is NOT for the offense only. Defensive delay of game is a penalty.

Because it’s more of a game of strategy, with lots of deception, surprise attacks, setting traps, and thinking multiple steps ahead to confuse the enemy. Think of a game of chess played with human pieces. Every piece has a distinct purpose, route, and the common goal is to advance into the opponent’s territory……also it’s quite athletic though the gameplay may be stop often, but the the game is played at maximum speed and intensity for a 5-6 seconds a play….you’ll never see anyone jogging during gameplay, full sprints.

@@aarondwood6628 you spend most of the game flexing your mental muscle more than any muscle on your body, with trying to read body language and analyzing the perfect movement on the spot like you’re some kind of computer, all to then get knocked out and thrown to the ground for a split second. It’s like pulling the plug out of your pc before turning it off. No wonder people have horrible brain trauma from this game.

Taken an interest in American Football recently and learning about the different aspects of the game but i really cannot fathom this whole franchising thing. Teams moving cities and rebranding, no loyality to the fans and a lack of heritage and local culture that surfaces as a result. Completely different to Europe and what you would call soccer.

I'm a foreigner....Would you expect that if coaching was exactly the same level, the draft would ensure that over time there would be very little separating teams in ability? In other words, success is something dependent upon management of players only? As an example, I was looking at the AFC championsip of the Chiefs: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kansas_City_Chiefs The record against their opponents are: 12-4, 14-2, 14-3, 11-6. Given my assumption of player quality evening up over time, is it really better coaching? What am I missing? The stats seem very one-sided....

You absolutely can not kick a football 50 yds let alone accurately. He also SPECIFICALLY said that the holder is not a unique assigned position and is just taken up by whoever can do it best on the team

@@user-ys3tn5uj6l in other words, you don’t know where the name football derives from? It’s a family of games. American football, association football, Australian rules football, rugby, Gaelic football, and Canadian football are all football because it is a game played on foot.

@@user-ys3tn5uj6l that’s not why it was called football. It took on a different energy later on. But the original name was association football and the British invented the word soccer, not the US and the US isn’t the only nation that calls it soccer.
