There are some lovely daffodils that are scented. There are also some varieties that grow well in grass and naturalise. Eg White Lady, and the pheasant eye ones. February gold is a shorter stem and would be great in your table trough. Also grape hyacinth maybe the variety Valerie Finnis? Have you looked into the period of the daffodils that you buy? The modern ones tend to have taller stems and bigger heads and they fall over in the wind… not my favourite… You can also extend the season of flowering from January until May with the right varieties too. Love your commitment and enthusiasm.

About renovating a chateau in south of French the owners found under the wooden floor the story of the wood carpenter and the village written underneath from the late medieval time I think.
