what did you end up doing with the engine?

I know this video is pretty old, but I'm trying to finish my 305 to 350 swap in my 93 GMC Sierra 1500, CA model. I am to the point where all I have left to do is set timing, prime my oil pump and install my main pulley and fan. However, I started this tear down 4 years ago and due to unforeseen circumstances I had to move the truck to storage for a couple years. I have a couple wires, and vacuum lines that I just cannot identify where they go for the life of me and I'm desperate for some help. If anyone is familiar with my model id really appreciate some insight...

Hi Jay yes I think you should tear down this engine. Also wanted to know about the angle heads is there something about them. And if so I'd like to know. I've considered putting an 283 in my GMC SONOMA yes that's an old design but I think you put the right parts with the engine would be so cool.

My aunt just gave me my uncles 1991 gmc sierra has the 5.7 but it knocks so much im just gonna replace the motor once it blows if it does i know they are very reliable

Those pistons are .030 over it's been rebuilt at least once already.

727 is already a hydraulic roller from factory.

What is the marking tape called that you put on the main to measure thickness?

I'm about to do my first rebuild of a 350 I have been working on my own tractor trailers and machines and my whole life and I never did a rebuild of a gas motor and this is the exact motor I am going to rebuild you are teaching me a lot right now

I recommend a dead blow mallet instead of a steel hammer for disposal purposes

1:16:50 would it hurt to lube it during removal?

Will this valve adjustment technique work on a performance cam? It also is flat tappet hydraulic lifter, just a spicier cam. Thanks.

*Great video! I too, have been working with engines for decades. Greatest thing in the world. Brake clean is now classified as a pretty heavy carcinagine. I used to get it on my hands and I breathed in the fumes a lot over the years. Stay safe, bro. Nitrile gloves and ventilation help a ton.*

The cam gear will only attach to the cam one way, with TDC at piston one, just put the cam gear on the camshaft and rotate to match the timing points. At this point the cam will be in the correct position.

I have been debating on pulling my engine from my project 1987 Chevy K10. After watching your video ( going to watch more of your videos) I am going to attempt it. It looks hard putting the lock ring with the tranny out!. I was thinking doing it while its up installed because i dont want to do all the work on getting it out just for that. I might not do it 😢

As soon as i saw the dash i knew the truck was a 1984 , the later dash design was not near as nice, try and score a good earlier dash to retro fit and u pay big $$$

Nice job on the exhaust system , i would have been tempted to put in a X pipe , i have an X pipe in my Monte and it sounds pretty kool when the revs are up going through the gears. There is also a similar mandrel bent system kit on Amazon

So u didnt show this but did u cut 2 holes in the bumper and the exhaust tips just exit that way ?

Seems to look like a steel not cast crank. Also maybe someone blew up an early 302 and transferred some of the part less pistons.

That's what my '89 Caprice has. A 305 with the TBI. I see the 305 Chevys are getting a lot of attention like the 350s.

Doing this job on my 2009 Saab 9-7x and helping me a lot. Had an engine fire that took out everything in engine bay and putting an engine from a donor car. This video is a life saver.

I couldn’t quite tell from the camera , do you place the plastic gauge on the cam and then when you tighten the bearings on it leaves some kind of thickness mark from the pressure?

I just did swap from 2.8 to 4.3 but cost bout same just couldn't find good 350 every time I did find 1 something was a matter with it so bought heathy 4.3 from c1500 just change manifolds and used same wiring just modded some wires

I wouldn't use that type rear end for 350 swap might hold up if you don't do burnouts unless u put bigger gears
