for you, my friend, your video is very nice, I want to ask you, I have a crf 450 r 2008, the manufacturer says to change the piston and springs every 15 hours, I don't use it as a racer, and I've owned it twice and you can see the piston that it never has the thickness on the bottom side is 95.86 what should I do, change it
@CoteMotorcycles5 күн бұрын
If it’s apart I would change it. Def don’t have to change piston every 15hrs unless you’re pro. Really depends on how you ride and how often you change your oil / oil quality. You can probably go another 5-6 years on a piston if you’re a casual rider. Valve clearance should be checked at least once or twice a season. Those bikes were hard on valves. Clean / oil airfilter every ride.

I have an 05 crf250r and engine has approximately 150 hours, but valve clearance still in spec and cylinder and piston are perfect and look virtually new. I checked the small end of rod and it looks good… and no discernible vertical play in the lower rod bearing. Question… should I replace crankshaft anyway based on hours even if still seems in spec? I have heard that the lower end rod bearing is the weak link, and am willing to put in new crankshaft, if it should be done. Great video!!! Gratitude! Martin
@CoteMotorcycles2 ай бұрын
If you’re racing or running dunes you might want to replace it. If you’re not replacing the piston / rings then no way should you be doing a crank. I’ve seen lots of bikes only change oil for 10 years and they’re fine. If you don’t change oil lots with good oil, you’ll have crank issues. Otherwise, let it ride.

Thanks!!!! I am a vet rider and just ride my own mx track on my farm and trails at this point. Also a nut about keeping a close eye on oil level, run great oil, and service often. @@geovanyfz you can see how the clutch basket should look at 8:00 on the video. The fingers should be completely smooth. I suppose you could also need to set your clutch cable. If it's not disengaging the clutch will drag and won't be able to find neutral. Very unlikely its a worn bearing. Could also check the detent bolt (5:28) The bolt could come loose and the detent star could have rotated on the shift drum. You would likely have trouble shifting in all gears, not just neutral.

This is all you usually need to clean unless the bike was kicked over in a ditch with the airbox off….definitely wouldn’t touch the tps. As long as the fuel / air passages are clear the rest of the carb can usually just be blown out with compressed air as there’s no fuel above the float bowl and there’s usually an air filter stopping dirt.

@CoteMotorcycles7 ай бұрын
Injector could be plugged but I would start with draining the fuel and then rinsing the tank with fresh fuel. Add some methyl hydrate to fresh 91 octane and see if it starts. If it still doesn’t go then you can pull the injector and let it soak overnight in Honda combustion chamber cleaner. Only use the Honda cleaner, anything else will destroy the plastic and rubber parts. Also pick up some fuel stabilizer for the next time your bike is going to sit!! Hope that helps!

Just follow the cam love with your feeler gauge and it should slide in with a little resistance. If you push too hard you’ll depress the valve and get a false reading. Look at my valve adjustment video and you’ll see it with the cam out; might give you a better idea of what you’re measuring.

It’s a dry sump system so you need to drain the oil that didn’t make it out of the crankcase as well as the oil reservoir. Supposedly saves more power than a motor having to spin its crankshaft through a puddle of oil.
