I own a 2005 645ci with right at 75k miles. I just a few days ago drove it “spiritiddly” for about 100 miles on a nice country road and the car performed very well and as expected. Last night I decided to take my wife for gelato and less than a mile down the road pulling out of my neighborhood the car suddenly shut down and stopped with no warning. A big red light came on that I have never seen before. It would not restart for a couple of minutes but finally did. I was able to get the car home but just as I was pulling in the driveway I noticed reduced engine power came on. Once parked I turned it off and restarted it and everything went back to normal. I do keep the car on a batty tender so the voltage was good. What would possibly have caused this very worrisome episode? Thank you for all of the driveway hints and repairs. I recently was able to replace my cabin filters and flush the under hood drains with your help. Keep it up all of this is very much appreciated!

Just bought my 2007 M6 Convertible 2 weeks ago-(BMW enthusiast also) So I noticed the rear window was still up after several top operations ,didnt think much of it..then I was like ...hmmm.does that window go down ? I go on YT and someone was demonstrating how to use the window switches..cool it works ! I take it out of the garage 7 days later on our hottest day of the year so far (90° US) May 22 2024 to go get fresh rear tires and A/C Recharged -top would not close all the way ..I was livid !!! WTF BMW! Got home after the garage and went online and found this video..I was like ok..lets try it..after a few bangs on each side and trying to grab anything with metal to wiggle..It worked! Now will it be something I have to do all the time? Hope not..Thanks for this video,I was annoyed but know Im full of JOY LOL..Until next thing goes wrong :)

Hey bud, I'm from Tyler, Texas and saw your video on sport shifting. I have done quite a but of research on the topic . I might like a video of you also resetting the transmission by ( turning it on, no start, and holding the gas down for two minutes then turning it off and back on starting it after 20 seconds .then you drive it aggressively for about 20 minutes and it resets your throttle response. Please.

Hello Tim, great explanation, I have a question on the Vanos issues on a 2012 328i N51 engine. As soon as I start the car RPM revs up to 1500 drops back down to normal and a code gets triggered. I have rebuilt the engine completely, I also changed 3 heads thinking they were the cause. Changed the carbon oil seals at the cam shafts, changed the Vanos gears, solenoids and valve cover gasket, the cam sensors too. Nothing changed, still the same 2 codes. So, one is under OBDII scan and the other is in the deep scan mode and they are P052B and 2A7C. There is not much info on these as they are really rare. I was told by a friend from England actually, that the codes might be generated by what you referred to as the stepper motor(Eccentric Shaft Actuator Valvetronic Motor). You explained that it turns counter or clockwise, and it contributes to the valve openings. But you also said that the Vanos system doesn't work right away I think as you first start the car. My problem is in the first 10 seconds of starting. Let me know if you know these codes and if you have any suggestions. I simply drive the car like this now it is fine, but the codes are always there. Thanks in advance mate.

Great video, as always: one of the concerns I have with the pressure washer technique, is pushing the lichen further into the material, where, if it's still alive, it'll embed itself even more. One of the suggestions online is to use Milton Sterilising tablets, to kill it, then washing off. Gulls are a nightmare - the toxic rubbish they digest is atrocious - incidentally, "sea" gull is a bit of a misnomer, they're scavengers, they don't care where they scavenge, they just happen to like roosting near the coast, they rarely go more than a couple of miles out to sea. We are near some lakes, & we get geese overhead - that's like a herd of cattle pooing on the car...

Hi Tim, just dropped onto your video, excellent insight into the workings of the valvetronic system. I have an '06 650i with the rare manual gearbox and on the whole it is a very competent machine. However, it does have one very irritating fault. Under normal driving it is excellent - very torquey and smooth right down to near idle speed. When giving it some beans there seems to be a definate lag between releasing the throttle for an upshift and the revs actually dropping. Then, when releasing the clutch and flooring it again there is a lag before the engine responds. This lag is not massive but significant and makes it very difficult to accelerate smoothly at full chat. If the car was auto you probably would not notice this because you would not be lifting for upshifts. When parked on the driveway the throttle response is fine, unable to fault. There are no fault codes and the only other issue is a slight lumpiness when the engine is cold, which I would suspect is over fueling (temp sensor or AFM). Any thought's or suggestions appreciated.

I own a 2005 645 E64 Sport w/ 77k on it now. Bought it 10 years ago with 58k on it. I absolutely love driving it and it is an occasional driver at best. I did the alternator bracket and am hoping to not have to do the stem seals. My oil temp gauge is sporadic and usually takes a long time to register. I noticed that yours was not active during this video. I used your video to change the cabin air filter yesterday and flushed the fender ports under the hood. The drivers side was worse than the passenger side.

Tim, you are a life saver. I have a 1991 850i where the auxiliary fan is cutting on and off. I live in Atlanta, GA, a hot place so I need my AC to work properly. So, via input from my BMW mechanic and various forums, I have decided to replace the auxiliary fan. I used your step-by-step instructions on meeknet to remove my old fan. Thanks so much. The one thing that was really a pain was getting to the bottom bolt that was holding the fan. I could barely get a wrench on it. It probably took me 1/2 hour to get it off. Just curious, any advice on how to access this bolt to make that a little easier? Use a longer wrench, take off the bottom trim on the car, or ? My new fan arrives today so I'll be doing this project the next several days. Thanks so much for your help!!!

After replacing the alternator bracket gasket (more correctly the oil cooler port gasket) on my '07 750Li and seeing the tip on here about the radiator hose plastic being brown, I decided to flush the coolant and install new hoses. After doing the flush procedure of draining /re-filling with water repeatedly in order to dilute to near 100% water, my expansion tank cracked in the top, so was only spitting bubbles and thus a small amount of water. I patched it with epoxy as Timm did in this video. Driving around a few miles at low speed on city streets, it cracked on the bottom. I epoxied that too, waiting on a new tank, and then again puttering around it developed another crack on the bottom. The plastic is not brown (I don't know if that scenario applies to the tank plastic), but apparently when they reach the point of cracking, they are pretty much shot all over.

Once they crack they are a goner! Often a sign that coolant wasn't used - just tap water
