Really good video, but I would say overly technical. Too many things to think about and consider. A follow on, more simple summary to these videos may be helpful.

It can be, lots of ppl benefit from it. There’s other approaches that we’ve found improve riding dynamics better than just yoga alone.

C'mon. You can't state that like a fact.
@mountainbikeacademy2 күн бұрын
Perhaps not. Based on anecdotes evidence of the hundreds of riders we’ve worked with it’s fact. I have an hour long intake call plus monitor and track their progress, so it’s accurate however I’m sure there’s people where it doesn’t apply because here’s millions of riders.

I'm coming back to riding after a lot of illness last year and have lost a lot of confidence on more kicky jumps. Currently trying smaller, predictable ones and remembering what my body needs to do. Need to build back fitness as well as confidence, and still have chronic fatigue to contend with, but I'm loving being out on the bike again.

This was a movie.... I had to skip it, just to much unnecessary yapping for my short attention span.

This is a pretty poor technique to dropping that could easily get you into serious trouble. You are basically relaying on building potential energy into the suspension of the bike, allowing it to spring back at a very precise moment in time. Once you have preloaded, as you demonstrated, you are essentially a passenger on the bike with little options to control yourself once you are leaving the feature. You can clearly see at 9:44, that your rear wheel has left the drop way before the end and ends up falling back down hitting the drop before clearing it. Had you done this on a larger drop you would be absolutely going OTB. Additionally you are effectively making the drop larger than it is as you are creating upwards momentum. You seem to criticize the "lunge" for timing, yet the timing window for success is much more forgiving.
@mountainbikeacademy4 күн бұрын
LOL that one at 9:44 was on a 6" drop and I got bumped up in the air. Good catch...but that was just bad / funky execution on my part. This technique is curriculum for instructors...and I disagree saying it's a bad one. On the other hand, if YOU don't like it, and you have something else that works for you, totally cool. In fact, very cool! And I do both techniques...this one is much easier to adjust midair because there is an equilibrium. The bike doesn't pull you down. If you lunge / punch and mess up, you not only have to adjust but also have to deal with the extra movement. However.. I do agree the timing window for success with the "lunge" is definitely more forgiving, especially on slower drops! So props for noticing that. I've been riding *almost* 20 years and I've never crashed on a drop. I don't mean to brag whatsoever, it's just that I've done a variety of techniques and they all seem to work. Actually...I take that back I've crashed going over a drop once but I was riding a manual across the bridge before the drop. So that's why I crashed lol. Anyways, good comment and thanks for putting up your thoughts!

How about a video on soaking up a jump, (please) there is this one jump that if you hit it at trail speed you will way over jump it but it kills the end of the run if you slow down enough to not over do it.????

Primer. I’m selling it - just not my cup of tea. Really liked the suspension (ohlins), the build quality was good. Steering felt a bit vague, but what I didn’t like was the flex in the frame. They design it in for traction but it’s a 140mm rear travel bike. Made it just feel off. I’ll probably stick to Santa Cruz and get a 5010 and a raaw Madonna. For context: tons of people love the primer. I think it’s a steal for the price. I prefer bikes with snappy, absolute telepathic feedback. I’m not a racer looking for .1 seconds or comfort. I want it to be agile. So definitely a good bike, GREAT for the money but not exactly what I’m looking for. Plus I can get whatever I want within reason so I’m going to be picky!

If you don't have trails, jumping curbs sideways is pretty useful for practicing front wheel tracking at small scale. You can easily manage entry speed and it's not that consequential.

I was up to 240lb when I decided to use a MTB to get some fitness back. I found my weight and lack of fitness prevented me learning any technical skills. For me the most important thing was just getting mileage done on the local hills. No skills required, just repeatedly pedalling up long hill climbs to burn the weight off and get some muscle back in my legs. My inflexible dead weight destroyed my first full suspension bike, so for my second bike I’ve gone for a hard tail.. less to break, and not as expensive, but I’m finally feeling lighter and more agile so now I’m looking to learn some skills and gain some technical ability. Your video is exactly what I’m looking for at the right time. For any others who aren’t as fit as they would like to be, and feel its difficult enough to just pedal the bike. Keep at it. Work on your cardio, burn the fat and build the muscle in your legs. It will come.

@@LaurentiusTriarius haha I said at least! So many dudes only ride a couple hours on the weekend and stick to xc trails on their enduro bikes then wonder why they’re so intimidated by drops and jumps and steeps. Fortunate to have access to so much trail diversity in Reno/Tahoe. I have friends in Santa Cruz where I used to live that smoke me on the UCSC steeps but when they come up here it’s a different kind of gnarly 🤠

Saying that weight lifting is going to get someone hurt is outrageous enough, you then proceed to sell mumbo jumbo BS like activated core, while showing some own made up crappy isometric exercise - what do you think happens when you low bar squat?! Have you seen someone riding without activating the "core"? Wouldn't they just fall off the bike? Then dynamic posterior chain, equally meaningless set of words, showed on example of one of less useful exercises like classic deadlift (RDL is better for MTB and general lower back/hamstring health for variety of reasons). Mobilized thoracic spine - and you show really crappy form of OHP, where you don't provide enough tension in bloody thoracic spine! Needless to say, I feel sorry for folks who will pay you anything... The hell did I just watch...

Best piece of advice I've taken from this is to start slow on a table top - forget about clearing the table top and focus on the movement\control. DO NOT just speed up to clear it. Yeah sure, speeding up will probably mean you clear it but you've learnt nothing. Plus when you do get it wrong the consequences are worse. So forget about your ego, slow it down and get the movement right.
