final yield count? and how much fertilizer did it chew through?
@GuamMamaCooks
@GuamMamaCooks 23 күн бұрын
A whopping 5! This was last year with no shade covering. The leaves got all crispy early in summer. Not much fertilizer; didn’t track volume of fertilizer but I fertilized same as tomatoes…every two weeks. This year in 2024, I put them under shade cloth and just cut the last cucumber plant down today, August 5. Powdery mildew has eaten them up in this NC heat/humidity….. now getting so much rain this past 3 weeks….still raining. I did feed it with diluted milk every week. Didn’t count quantity but enough for us to eat fresh….i don’t preserve them….more than last year. So, I’ll continue to grow under shade cloth; fill Earthbox every 2 to 3 days instead of 4. Also, this year I grew them with tomatoes, basil, green onions, borage, marigolds in same box….. not a single cucumber beetle; last year had enough of the beetles to be a nuisance.

I love that you got the exact ratio of rice to water right. 1cup of rice to 1cup of water, but 1cup of rice actually equals 3/4cup when using a measuring cup.

Yes, but it’s very popular at Chamorro parties….. with added achote to differ a bit from Filipino flavors.

UsuLly my canned coconut milk is like regular milk consistency. How did you get your milk to thicken?
@GuamMamaCooks
@GuamMamaCooks Ай бұрын
Each brand of coconut milk can vary in thickness. I use the Chef's Choice blue and green can. I simmer until the milk thickens. The water will evaporate and the plantains will release some starch......which in turn makes the coconut milk thicker.

hey there... I have almost the same set up using a 50 gallon container and my slips are about that same size. I got some garden cloches from Dollar Tree and I place them on top each slip I have 5 in each container. this keeps critters away most of the time. they are $1.25 and they are clear with a vent hole.. im also using the Dollar Tree Wire mesh trash cans to place on top of my garden plants when small you keep the rabbits away. secure them with wooden food skewers. remove them in the heat of the day replace in evening until plants are big enough remove completely. it also helps from wind and heavy rains when the plants are small. I just thought I'd share since you mentioned rabbits. they were destroying my plants ate all my cauliflower till I got those covers.

@GuamMamaCooks
@GuamMamaCooks 2 ай бұрын
You can eat right away. To age/cure them will allow you to store for many months depending on type of onion, and storage conditions (cool temperature, minimal light, air circulation).
