Thank you for visiting Hillbilly Garage and reaching out. The channel started over fixing my RAMS. The idea of the engine resurrections started with the yard sale motor we call "sludge monster". The 305's are just what we got started with, "lil red corvette" is the first 350. I screen shot your suggestions to consider your idea for the second 305 we call "hot rod shop". I am planning on stepping up the "juice" on it. Our plan is to keep ramping up the builds as we go. Thank you so much and hope to see you around the garage regularly.

Really nice paint job on that 305. But what's up with the 305 builds? I can see if it was a Vortec 305 and you added a sbc 383 crank to it and did a little port work to the heads and maybe add a set of 1.94" intake valves. Top it off with a genuine imitation RPM Airgap dual plane intake and your choice of 650 carb and you would have a hot little sbc 334 runner with a .030" overbore. The cheap cast steal sbc 383 crank for this build unless you want to add boost? Being that the Vortecs are a roller block might as well use a roller cam in it. There's a company from Texas that sells reground factory roller cams on the Bay of e for a reasonable price. Many different performance regrinds choices to pick from. And always no matter what cam you run, even a factory cam, run a genuine imitation RPM Airgap dual plane intake. There is no downside to using that intake. The low rise aftermarket aluminum dual plane intakes make less power than a factory 4bbl dual plane intake. The only gain is the weight savings from one of those. The Airgap style high rise dual plane intakes will make more power down low and run the power out further in the RPM band.😎👍 I ran a factory sbc Vortec 305 with the Edelbrock RPM Airgap dual plane intake and it made more power everywhere. And that's with the factory cam. Granted it is a roller cam but it's not much of performance cam at all. But I did manage to run 14.0s in the QM with that engine in a 3,400 lb car.

So I changed the oil and and drove it about 100 miles and spun a cam bearing and seized up and snapped the timing chain gear bolt that holds it to the camshaft. So I'm doing a full rebuild.

Looks like a late 70s shark body vette engine if it is out of one? Watch those porting videos while you port a set of 193 swirl port heads for that thing when it's ready. If it is from that era, if I recall correctly those would be smog heads that have 76cc chambers. The 193 swirl ports have 65cc chambers for a nice compression boost if the bottom endis still sound?😎👍

I pulled the valve cover for the casting on the heads, you are right, they are 462624 heads. From what I read on them, they are not considered very good. If I understand correctly, they might be 2.02/1.6 but they have press in studs and no valve guides so probably 1.94/1.5 and prone to cracking? I was thinking maybe 2.02 "fuelies" but I like your idea of the 193's ported with the smaller chamber.

I have seen him in the comments there.🙄 Charles has a playlist on the 193 swirl port heads, he took them all the way to over 300 CFM on the intake side and over 200 CFM on the exhaust side. The mods would be basically the same for the 187 swirl port heads. He even posted how to modify the port while keeping the 1.94"/1.50" factory valves the 193 heads came with. I see you are going with carburation , these TBI motors LOVE carburation , just that move alone is gonna make a big difference, that old TBI intake was a huge choke on these motors ! Those are 187 castings (the 350 version is the 193 casting) , the two main mods that i have found than increase intake flow on these heads (that anyone can do) is remove material from the port wall where the head bolt passes through the head and rework the guide so it has way more tapper from the bowl roof out toward the end a the guide, u can even push back the end a the ramp a bit too, do that and u will increase flow.
@Hillbillygarage1215
@Hillbillygarage1215 20 күн бұрын
Lucky, so you are saying to shape the guide like a cone, right? What do you think about cutting the whole ramp out, making a round bowl with just the cone shaped guide in the middle? @luckyPiston
@luckyPiston 20 күн бұрын
@@Hillbillygarage1215 Yes like a cone to yur first question and no to removing the ramp , what i have found flowing the 187 is u can pick up quite a bit modding the end of the swirl ramp by angling it in so air can flow past both sides of the valve stem , the two air streams converge and dump out the port right into the center of the cylinder , looking down the runner to where it meets the bowl u will have a L shape as you also have widened the sort side as part of angling the ramp back.

I would like to see a couple of main bearings to see if any debris damage from the cam/roller. Ideally one would think that the oil filter would catch it all, so is that true? Anything falling into the oil pan is sucked up by the oil suction tube, to the lube pump and then through the filter, so suction screen may have some debris, lube pump may be scored, but I would hope bearings were spared by filter. If not, I would consider deleting the filter bypass capability if possible, it's there supposedly for those who don't service their engine like they should and their filter starts to plug.

Ron, the bearings were thankfully in great shape. No scarring to speak of. The oil filter had a good bit if metal in it, so it did it's job. The pick up screen didn't have anything on it but the metal from lifter and camshaft was smaller than the screen. There was a large amount of metal settled in the bottom of the oil pan. I'm sorry, I didn't get all that covered in this batch of videos but I will make sure to include that in any future projects I may buy into. I am certainly glad I stripped the motor to bare block and pressure washed it all out. Thank you for visiting Hillbilly Garage we hope to see you again soon.
