Just save a dog’s life and get a shelter dog. I’ve had only shelter dogs for over 40 years and every single one have been beloved members of my family. I have much disdain for breeders making cash “for the love of the breed”.

One consideration is the shorter snouts are primarily caused by domestication syndrome, rather than crappy breeding practices. It comes from the genes that make dogs more friendly to humans. Breeders will typically and carefully select friendlier dogs when breeding, making it get worse over time.

The pug's current condition always breaks my heart, and honestly I despise the people who buy it thinking that it is cute. I just hope that pugs could go back to how they were used to be

I got him when he was 7 months old, he's 5 now and very happy. I never wanted a dog but I'd hate to be without him, I get so much from him & give him loads of love back.

You see with alot of dogs. I got bernese mountain dog he 52kg/ 125lbs what normaal for breed. but now days male go up 70+ kg 154lbs or more. Even famale BMD are bigger then my male dog now days. I hear alot when thy see my dog: is that female dog ?because female BMD get so big now days last was one 68kg / 149lbs other thing what wrong with GSD thy are not shepherd any more. i talk to guy who breed them for 30yrs and he said a GSD are now day breed te be guard dog or attack dog and not shepherd. that why alot of GSD try kill sheep and other small animal and come bad way in news.

I often ask if its ok to treat your child like a dog, obviously not. I suggest its the same level of disrespect to treat a dog as a child. Its not a cute child replacement. Respect and reconise the dog as a dog. The failure to do this is why human breed for looks at the cost of health.

There are working lines for some of these breeds, like the German shepherd. I know of somebody who left the show world and concentrates in working lines breeds Some of these need to just go…the dogs are not healthy. For the record, I will never adopt any of these breeds. It’s just cruel.

The answer is absolutely not, these straight backed animals that are also as long as a train, generally weak heads, couldn't herd a chicken let alone a flock of sheep. At least the German dogs are robust, not like the all breeds version of the Shepherd who is just a show pony.

I’ve had 5 shepherds and every one has been flat back kennel club is to blame for most of dog’s faults pugs bulldogs ect can’t breathe cavaliers have heart problems and the list goes on and on.

I always thought dogs needed snouts to eat properly as well as breathe.

After more then 50 years of working with and training dogs I am convinced that show breeders are the greatest enemy of dogs!

I often dont get the anthropomorphism of animals. Miserable is a state of mind, misery the state of the wallet. These are not reasons of breeding but the cause of overbreeding. The abuse of a german shepherd is the owner that doesnt have livestock or the abuse of the french bulldog the owner that doesnt allow it to chase mice.

I had to put down our Germany Shepherd three weeks ago because she had problems with her hips, she couldn't pee or poop properly, sit or get up. humans need to stop breeding dogs against their nature for our own amusement. we humans are cancer to this world.

German shepards evolved this way because an influential breeder/judge had this gene in her bloodline and said, to save embarassment, that it was the more desirable feature so everyone wanted to have this.

Not mentioned is the increase in premature death causing issues such as Degenerative Myelopathy (or ALS/Lou Gherig disease) commonly found in large breed dogs such as the German Shepherd. I used to take care of a very large German Shepherd who looked excellent, but had horrible hips and joints issues (which cost the owners a shit ton of money to correct) and eventually had to be put down due to DM at the age of 7. Aside from him there were at least another 5 large breeds I knew that all suffered, and died, from the same thing. This genetic manipulation for absolutely idiotic purposes needs to stop.

I knew someone once who purchased two German bred Shepherds. Guaranteed to not have hip dysplasia. Well they didn't have problems with their hips but they weren't problem free. The one dog, Tucker, was absolutely beautiful but very standoffish and the owner said although he had never caused any problems she really wouldn't trust him too far with strangers. The other boy though, that dog was mental. Paced all the time. never seemed to relax. Eventually started getting aggressive and wound up with some kind of disease that was eating him up from the inside. And it's such a shame because they're a lovely breed but bad breeding has just ruined them.

The so called beauty standard, is horrible what they have done to so many dog breeds. It falls right in line with what they used to do with Japanese women, binding their feet. The last purebred dogs I had were Yorkies, lived to almost 19 years. After that I did not have any dog for several years. The ones I have now are all from the same litter, mixed breed, of Border Collie/ Labrador Retriever and something else also in the mix. They are 11 now without health issues.
