Would be good to have Leviton tech support weigh in on its receptacle...seems to me, if one installs with ground orientation up, adapter plugged in and fixed in place with clamps, there should be no issues. I split charge off one receptacle to 2 EVs this way and have had no issues with the Leviton. Its UL listed to 50amps. I think something is very wrong when it doesnt hold up and Leviton still stocks them. Hubbel must have had a nice dinner with Elon.

Ranting electrician here. That MC stuff isn't to code in a lot of places if more than 6' is used. If there's a short from a current carrying conductor to the MC, it may not be a low resistance ground path. Please use wire strippers to strip the conductors. Using a knife is bad practice because you cut into the copper a little bit causing a heat spot. Would be nice to see a plastic bushing where the wires enter the panel from the box connector. Good job using the torque wrench on the wall connector but you should have used it on the breaker too. Please forgive how insufferable I am, thanks.

There is no motor and the hopper is as thin as a disposable water bottle. Squirrels could sit there and chew through it in five minutes. I threw it away. It was junk.

My Chamberlain B870 board just failed so none of remotes or keypad works. 5 yrs and 5 months out of warranty. Also Chamberlain has discontinued alot of models. Doesn't seem like any of the new models are durable anymore.

I just got a genie sitting on the floor. Now I'm thinking on returning watching the keypad have to enter code to close door. That's a bummer
@handydadtv13 сағат бұрын
@1165slugman I guess it depends on how much you use the keypad. I use HomeLink so I rarely close it with the keypad.

great video!! two questions please? is it important to have a metal wall box vs plastic? does it matter where you put the black/red wires on the breakers?
@handydadtvКүн бұрын
No, you can use plastic if you want. And the two hots aren’t polarized so it doesn’t matter which goes what side of the breaker.

May be worth adding a note about installing Studio Code server. Does not come bundled with home server, and for a while i was very confused when you said "im gonna go into studio code server", and trying to follow along as a new user i dont have this. Some users will need a guide for SCS, i downloaded to docker and the setup page looked very confusing, so i'll be watching a video tutorial about that shortly. But may be worth adding a note along the lines of "before anything, install SCS" ect. Will hopefully come back to your guide once i have SCS setup

Good point. This video builds on my last one where I setup HA and installed SCS.

You are awesome teaching and make me feel like I can do this. And I did, you help me be confident and comfortable doing electrical stuff around my house. Because of people like you I think more people are more confident doing things on their own (at least in my case). The only thing that I have to do is little more research is when you connected the second switch, you didn’t specify or show where the he wires go( like the white ones from the light and the power source) since I am not an electrician, I had to do a little digging. But overall awesome work and thank you so much for the videos that you make. God bless you.

There is a difference in warranty times and the accessories on the Chamberlain, depending on what model you buy. I have an older Chamberlain that came wit a much nicer indoor keypad with a digital display that shows temp. time and the ability to change a lot of other features of the opener. One thing I like about the Chamberlain is the auto close in case you drive off and forget to close it. I have had Genie openers since 1980 with very good luck, but I don't remember why I switched to Chamberlain. I still have the first Ryobi opener that was made and it is a much stronger built opener then Chamberlain or Genie. Some day I will have to replace it with a Chamberlain when it quits, since they don't make them anymore after getting sued by Chamberlain.

Aside from the Genie at my house, I also have a Liftmaster with a motion detector in the wall control that turns on the light when you walk in. Very nice feature.

I am trying to wire a vintage pilot + switch into a cord fpr a vintage stage light. There is no ground, the cord is only 2 wire. Is it ok without a ground? It originally had an inline bakelight toggle switch that was cracked where the cord came into the switch.
@handydadtv2 күн бұрын
If you want to keep it vintage, skip the ground. If you want to modernize it, add a ground and attach it to the metal case.
