This is such a helpful video. I have recently started applying to these roles and have been making these exact same mistakes. Stressing out trying to cover all of the essential criteria within a concise word count. It has definitely made mine disjointed too. So happy to hear you discuss this!

Sharon! I'm a fellow trainee clinical psychologist too, and let me tell you, because of some 'failures' I ended up going for my doctorate in my 30s which I did not intend to do! So everything happens for a reason, maybe it's a hidden message for your younger self who was not a professional back then and testing the waters, so look how far you have come!? For me I thought I could not afford a career break, when actually something bad happened to make me go on one, and in hindsight it will all work out. So make the most of your learning journey and not focus on the destination.

Hey Sharon, I just wanted to say thank you so much for all the time and effort you’ve put into all of your videos - you’ve helped SO many countless people, including me! I’ve watched all of your videos, and somehow ended up with an offer for a DClinPsy place on my first go applying - your videos have been a crucial part of my journey. Like you I only had one interview and wasn’t expecting it!! On a separate note, I don’t know if you know how important and valuable it is to see Asian (and mixed heritage) representation in the field - it makes me feel like maybe I do belong here. THANK YOU!!

Also keeping in mind that the way uni needs us to present as a psychologist, is very different to how you present wiht an actual client. Please know this doesn't make you a bad psych.

I am a Clinical Associate Psychologist and this video does have considerable inaccuracies in it. I feel it's important to correct this as the CAP course is growing and it's imperative correct information is provided to future psychologists so they can accurately and appropriately make a decision on which course to apply for in their best interests. - We train for 18 months NOT 1 year. 12 months you will work 3 days a week with 2 days studying. The final 6 months you move to working 4 days a week with 1 studying. - We do NOT have to stay in the same service post qualification. We apply for any post just like any other role so we are not confined to our placement. Some trusts allow you to interview for the placement you like, others will assign you one whilst training. - Depending on your course will depend how many placements you have. Currently I have split placements which enables a greater depth of learning and experience. - We are very different to Assistant Psychologists and are qualified to provide supervision to APs. Although we are still supervised by a Clinical Psychologist we work independently within our teams. - The CAP career path is still being developed but is a profession in it's own right. Although some CAPS train and qualify to move to the D Clin this is not the intention of the CAP course, however is still an option. *Please note the courses vary slightly in structure. I train at Bath University and I am aware Plymouth runs differently regarding teaching. If you are interested please check directly with the course*

Hi I'm currently pursuing my masters in clinical psychology in India and want to further do my Dclin psy from the UK . So how do I know whether my masters degree is BPS accredited or not ?
@pavithraac2856
@pavithraac2856 3 ай бұрын
indian courses are not accredited by bps. But you can apply to bps once your masters is over with all your transcripts and certificates and they will say if the course you did was up to their standards or not. Once thats clearred they will award bps accredition to you and that you can use for your dclinpsy application

@@pavithraac2856 so if I am eligible for bps accreditation after my masters then I won't have to do any conversion course ?

@@tanyamudgal956 conversion is for those from non-psych backgrounds not you. once bps says your institutions's syllabus is upto their standards (mostly yes as long as yours wasnt too bad) you can go directly.... but while considering dclinpsy in uk, bps accredition is the least of your problems.... there are so many issues to be vercomed

Hi Sharon, I'm wondering if good Universities would be understanding of me coming out with a 2:2 in my undergraduate in Philosophy years ago when I was literally unaware I had Autism and possible ADHD until years later working as a Business Systems Analyst in Local Government. I was first going to apply to a conversion course on this basis at Cardiff despite them stating I need a 2:1 as I've done 4+ years of psychotherapy (Psychodynamic/Person centred) and feel that these are pretty unique circumstances. Do you think I could make this happen for me?

My study background is a bachelor's in Computer science and now I am studying a master's in cognitive science with a specialization in cognitive psychology and neuroscience. I took some technical classes too but I enjoyed these two majors so much and in the future, I want to work as a clinical psychologist. My next plan is to do PhD as well from any German university. But every time I discuss this with any senior I get the same reply that I cannot be a clinical psychologist. Would you guide me on what should i do or any other field I should search about if I can't be a clinical psychologist.?I just want a bright future i struggled a lot in finding my interest. And now I need help from seniors.

I'm a mature student. I watched your video about 18 months ago when I was first thinking about doing my psychology conversion (due to qualify in summer 24). Just wanted to say even as a mature student I have found your videos super helpful. Especially the one you did on Leeds Clearing House - I would never have guessed psychology would have been so different from my original profession (nursing) in terms of how the courses are structured and how you go about making sure you have the best possible chance.

Do i need to have self funding for Dpsych? 2. Would NHS will not fund Dpsych for international students? 3. Do you need ILR or PR visa to get NHS funding for international students students? 4. Can you not apply skilled worker visa for international students to do Dpsych?

Thank you very much for this video, I had a question while watching this video, is the supervision course included in the university program or not? Does that mean you don't pay extra money to the supervisor? Because in my country, the supervision course is not part of the university program and we have to pay extra money and get a supervisor after finishing our studies, which means that in my country, apart from the university tuition, we have to pay for the supervisor as well. I wanted to know Is your country the same?
