What if we use too much?
@DressWell.Madaras
@DressWell.Madaras Күн бұрын
It can vary but generally the risk of using too much conditioner is that it could start to strip the base finish of the shoe due to its solvent content. I imagine using way too much might also leave a greasy surface texture that could attract dust and other kinds of dirt.

Glad it was helpful! Waterproofing spray is not for Full Grain Calf at all. Wax will have you covered with that regard. Spray is only for Suede and Suede-like split/reverse grain leathers. There are some resources online, though I myself and not super well-versed in suede treatment.

This was really eye opening. Im a regular boot wearer more so than dress shoes, and $350 with redwing (another heritage us based brand) gets you a well made boot with comfortable stylish lasts that are not far off from what you can get from whites with similar construction methods. Redwing is an example of why ae is over priced when redwing can provide an arguably higher quality product for $100 less

@DressWell.Madaras Of course! I couldn't not support this. It's already about as good as I can imagine as far as critiques are concerned. There's a level of depth there and thought that you just never see. On top of that, you are genuinely funny, and in a time where it's needed most you bring a beautiful authenticity to your videos. I would imagine with that level of analysis and depth of thinking you would have some interesting ways of thinking about other things, I can definitely see you branching out some day!

It's great to see an honest video about dress shoes. Influencers often try to over-promote products. It's obvious that if you look at the subject of leather shoes, Allen Edmonds is a brand that's far too expensive for what it really is! Unfortunately, too few people are honest enough to say so. I'm French and we also have our fair share of poor brands whose influencers claim they're artisan quality and blah blah blah. You can count on a new subscriber :-)

As someone who has purchased a Blake Stitched Oxford from Bridlen, let me tell you that it sucks, big time. I chose the blake stitch specifically to check the quality of their craftsmanship before buying the expensive ones as they do not have a return policy. 1. The leather is extremely stiff and very uncomfortable. 2. The leather sole was uneven and they would rock if you pushed on one side of the shoe. 3. They looked nothing like they did on the website.

Love your stuff. Checked my socks and my dress socks met your criteria ... except ... above the calf. From the arse end of the world this seems to be a North American thing, although i can't see Canadians going for it, except for thermals, Above the calf seems to be a tad prudish, a splash obsessive, a trifle stocking-ish. In fact, a bit girlish, if I'm allowed say so. Twee possibly. No judgment implied, just an observation.

@DressWell.Madaras
@DressWell.Madaras 5 күн бұрын
It can depend on conditions, though if you are literally wearing them every day for much of the day, probably a light conditioning once every 2 months would be good. Once a month in harsh conditions, once every 3 if basically sitting in an office most of the time. I wouldn't do any more or less frequent than that.

AE is a practical stylish American shoe. Let me tell you why I can wear my AE Park Ave. to a out-door wedding on a farm or a fancy hotel in New York City. However, I would never wear my Gravati's to a out door wedding on a farm. Out-door ceremonies and special events is where my AE's shine. In-doors my Gravati's shine.

I have a comment on aesthetics. The clunky potato shape of the AE Park Avenue, along with the heavier stitching on the upper, the fewer stitches per inch on the welt, and the heavy heel make it a more versatile shoe as compared to shoes made on a complicated last with more fine details. "Doc Martens for adults," i've heard them described as. They're not a sexy european thing, or a fussy delicate asian thing. They're a full-size American stomper, that can be worn with a suit, or even with jeans and not look out of place. it doesn't have a flattering silhouette from above (or a few different angles) but it's a heeled leather shoe that serves a variety of sartorial purposes. I appreciate your OCD, Chris.

I own a dozen AEs, and I always pay under 200 dollars for them when they are sale. However, when I have bought their shoes on sale off their website, I received shoes so bad that they were unwearable. One pair were so dried out that the top of the toe box was all cracked, and when I put them on and walked with them, they cracked even more. Another pair of boots had the sole sown on to the shoe at an angle, so when you looked down on the shoe, the sole was off several degrees, which was very noticeable. Also, these boots had soles that were ground with angles, one shoe different than the other. They too were unwearable. Now if I buy AEs that are at super sales, I call the store closest to me and have them order them. If the shoes they order are perfect, they mail them to me. I have had mangers at the store call me to say the shoes they got for me were not good enough to mail to me, so they had to order other pairs. As an additional note, I will say that I have about a dozen pairs of Beckett Simonon shoes also. I also buy them when they are on super sales. I currently have 4 pairs being made for me, as they take a few months to arrive. This being said, my BSs are perfect when they arrive, and they come in a great box with great presentation. So in conclusion, order your AEs by phone from a store near you, the closest, let us say, and pay what I have, anywhere from 96 to 174 dollars. Ta da.

about to start a new big boy lawyer job and torn between Boardroom and Il Regalo. I wear a size 13 eee shoe. Price wise Regalo is a bit pricier, and had a worse return policy. Is Il Regalo THAT much better? Boardroom I am stuck with plain colors; Il Regalo has a few paisley stitched I could try. Whatcha think? (My last set of OTC socks was from a Turkish outfit and are like 10 years old..)
@DressWell.Madaras
@DressWell.Madaras 11 күн бұрын
Il Regalo is indeed that much better. Sizing is hard to miss with socks due to their elastic nature. I don't think it hurts to maybe get a couple plain-color pairs from Boardroom just to see how you feel about them - you can always return. Then maybe when you are more comfortable about sizing, try ordering Il Regalo's patterned stuff. Boardroom is thicker and will likely last a little longer, so maybe plain Boardroom for everyday wear, then a couple Il Regalo patterned for special occasions.

Do a review on Curatore shoes .. they are very much a mystery brand that have a mainstay (lately) at Nordstrom Rack .. they claim to make their shoes in Italy and China.. weird that they seem to be of decent quality upon initial appearance but who are they? Is the price to quality ratio inflated? .. a deep dive on Curatore as a brand would be interesting.

They are Blake Stitch. Even if they were GYW, the lasts are mediocre. Many far superior options for the price - TLB Mallorca, Carlos Santos, Cobbler Union, etc. Anything regarding stitched leather shoes in a department store like Nieman, Saks, Nordstrom, etc. are all generally overpriced and of poor or mediocre make.

@@DressWell.Madaras Thank you for your take .. the prices on their site vs the “discount” price at Nordstrom Rack I take with a grain of salt because they seem to be inflated to begin with. The blake stitching and quality of the leather did take me by surprise as they seemed to be somewhat on par with Magnanni and Bruno Magli even if they are mehh shoes but still a tier above Cole Haan etc in my humble opinion. I appreciate the overall breakdown in your videos.

Probably better quality, but worse value. It's hard to 'grade' AE because they are creating what I consider to be defective products because of the cork. A bit of a moot point regardless because at that point you are trying to draw gradation at the bottom of the barrel - it's all sludge anyway.

23:03 the view here of the lasts was beautifully informative, and a real highlight amidst a very educational video overall. I have an older pair of AE (circa 2017-18) that I’ve worn > 1000 times, and was gifted a new pair last year. They’re the same size, but don’t fit the same. The newer also came with the laces you mentioned, which feel functionally worse and subjectively seem sloppy. I’ll definitely look to some of your content here to teach me to appreciate more of the differences between new and old, as well as for future purchases with other brands.
