I've picked up one today, just as this one! but, it had damaged areas all over the stem, and I wonder... HOW. how to help that buddy, cuz I know nothing about cactuses, and the only succulent, that has survived at mine yet - is a tiny aloe, which seems to love me a lot, cuz all previous tries were so failed (one literally fell off the stem and said bye-bye)... hope I'd not make more damage to the one I picked up 🤭

Found a FLF that needs a home but it is about 7 ft no leaves then a bushy top at about 9ft. Leaning heavy and needs love. So scared to cut it down. Thoughts?

Assuming it's an aeonium and not another type of succulent, they do often create new pups before they flower to carry on living 😁

@@FreePlantsForever sorry I'm a bit confused I got this plant from my grandmother it's very large and old so you're saying every separate stock is a individual plant I was under the impression that it was all one plant with multiple stalks
@drakeweddner
@drakeweddner 7 күн бұрын
@@FreePlantsForever I'm almost positive it's aeonium I'm pretty experienced with plants I'm relatively new to be an interested in succulents it looks just like an aeonium the rosette groves on a long thick stock and they will turn purple if they get too much sun but it's in a big pot with at least seven stops coming out probably more and it breaks easily when it gets bumped so I have removed like 15 stocks and propagated them

Well my aloe plant has been in my greehouse since I had this issue of it looking like it was going to die and now it's big beautiful and has pups growing everywhere. It's in a hanging basket in my green house and I water it when I can put half of my figure in the soil and it's dry. Then I water it until a lil bit comes out of the bottom them I leave it alone for a while before I check again.

This tip is not a freebie but it is a bargain. You may have a long established and highly reputable garden center in your region. The business is prosperous enough to maintain a staff of landscape architects and work crews in addition to selling plants and garden supplies to the public. I spoke with them after buying a home with zero landscaping out front, nothing but one puny evergreen shrub. I knew enough to know I did not know enough to come up with a good design. We struck a deal. For only 50 dollars, a professional architect came to my home, measured my property, and discussed my preferences. A week later, I received a scale drawing of a beautiful landscape design for the entire front of my home, complete with the recommended plant list, and a breakdown of pricing for materials and labor. It was the best money I have ever spent.... I returned to the shop to negotiate. Be careful with that. If you whittle them down too far, the job isn't worth their time. We agreed that they would cut the sod. I would grade the soil. They installed the brick edging and planted the 3 ornamental trees. I planted all the shrubs, etc. They returned with the river rock mulch. (PS. I will never do a rock mulch again...too hard to maintain long term). Depending on your skills you can do the entire job yourself and can spread the expense and the effort across a span of years. The end result is a constant pleasure to me and receives a constant stream of compliments.

I respect what you are saying here and have a story to relate on what not to do. My parents owned a home in a high price neighborhood along a winding street. The opposite side of the street is an untended river bank. Over the years, my parents landscaped the section of bank across from their home. It became a popular rest stop for joggers, children, fishermen, and assorted passers by. One rainy day, two well-dressed ladies parked an expensive car, took a shovel out of the trunk and dug up all the full grown hosta. A neighbor noticed their umbrellas and enquired. They said they were collecting the plants for an impoverished friend. The gall. On a side note, my father was of German heritage and adopting the care of untended land is a very German thing to do. It is just for the pleasure of creating beauty where there was none. It upset him terribly to see his work undone. The day we buried him, I stood outside the cemetery chapel waiting for the crew to prepare his casket for the grave. I stood among all the funeral flower arrangements that would be placed upon the grave, the wreaths, bouquets, etc. A couple came strolling along among the gravestones. And right in front of me, they helped themselves to his roses. I was already hurting too much and could not speak a word at that unspeakable deed.

I wish I could propagate mine. Every time I try they either wilt or dry up. I have tried every techniques. And my big one I have had for years are dropping limbs. I transplanted it back into a clay pot because it was in one of those self watering plastic pots. Not my favorite. Maybe I used too big of pot?

Can i plant aeonium this summer?
@FreePlantsForever
@FreePlantsForever 17 күн бұрын
Aeonium do go dormant in the summer. You can certainly plant them, but it just might take longer to establish and look their best. My favorite time to plant them is in fall when it's a little cooler and they're less likely to get sunburned.

greenhouse =/= target obviously a plant store where they are capable of propogating the leaf it would be stealing. however at target that leaf will probably be garbage 99.9% of the time unless someone does this.

Beautiful! I have several varieties of Aeoniums in my garden as well as jade plants. I’m also from central coast California and they thrive so well because it is never too hot or too cold. Thinking of selling the cuttings on Etsy come spring time.

I've recycled the fallen leaves at garden centers before. the leaves go to waste other wise. it's not like I'm stealing a full grown plant or something, and just because the plant is for sale doesn't make the plant special, plus, the fallen leaves aren't for sale.
@Aspen_like_the_tree
@Aspen_like_the_tree 17 күн бұрын
when they fall to die they loose their for sale status. you're really just saving their life.

Please be careful with the drill skipping across the surface toward your hand! Find a way to secure the pot so you don’t have your hand in any way in the possible path of a a moving drill!
