You were right before you said Oyo kingdom, Yoruba is simply an ethnolinguistic group that was spoken in the areas of Togo, Benin and Nigeria. But historically speaking the Yoruba or proto Yoruba originated from the confluence river of modern day Kogi before migrating and further diversification. There was never a singular Yoruba entity until the 18th and 19th century

Wrong, Ekhaladerhan didn't die in ughoton. Ogiso owodo attempted to capture him in ughoton but by the time soldiers got there he had already left. It's those soldiers that then settled at ughoton preferring to stay there than to return to the ogiso and admit their failure to him. I believe that is when he left Edo and established ife. He is oduduwa

That part of the book was edited by a Yoruba's book publisher because there was no publishing company in Benin . Remember that the Brits cheated the Benin empire throughout 18 centuries to 19 century even till date just because the Benin empire never really agree to the formation of Nigeria as they were sovereign of theirs. The publisher would not agree to publish the book if not edited in other to proclaim of Yoruba supreme.

Answer: It is generally agreed that Oduduwa is not from Ile Ife. What a lot of observers miss is that Ile Ife was the paramount Yoruba city sorounded by several towns. The main city ruled by Obatala. Oduduwa is from one of the cities called Igbo ora. He was able to help Ife conquer all the surrounding cities to make them one and Ife as Capital. Due to this, the Ife people themselves took his side and chased out Obatala because Obatala at the time had a drinking problem and due to drinking, his reputation as king was low at the time. Obatala and his own royal clan (Ugbo people) were therefore forced out of town and migrated south. They are the present-day Ilaje people with majority in Ondo state, some in Lagos state as well. The name "Oba" (king) is from the name Obatala. Till this day, Ilaje do not identify as Oduduwa descendants, they hate moremi and ridicule her too. But they are aware that they are Yoruba who migrated directly from Ile Ife and see Oduduwa as an outsider or ursurper. They are aware he is Yoruba too though, not just from Ile Ife but from a Yoruba town east of Ife. The story is longer and if anyone need reference books I can supply same for knowledge purposes. The Benin story is as recent as 1950's/ 60's and are politically motivated. It is well documented that the exiled prince ekaladerhan of Benin settled and died in a town called Oghoton
