Is not the "W" also representative of the mermaid's fins?

It’s the first time I hear this theory, it might be true when talking about some Warsaw logos, but the anchor in Poland is the symbol of Polish resistance. Here’s an official explanation: “The sign of the Fighting Poland, popularly known as the Anchor, became the symbol of the Polish Underground State and Poles' resistance against the occupier during the German occupation of Poland.”
@peacefulamerican49944 күн бұрын
@@PolandwithEla Understood. Thank you pani. It was only my opinion based on the story. Did not realize about the anchor.

Oh, it happens here in Vegas. I've been an altar server to two Catholic weddings and BOTH times, the newly wedded couple would spend the entire song of Ave Maria in front of Our Lady of Guadalupe in our Church. It leaves a lot of people in tears.
@PolandwithEla11 күн бұрын
Wow, who would have thought! I always thought of Vegas as a place with the „quick-wedding” chapels. Thank you for sharing!
@lesevesel289810 күн бұрын
@@PolandwithEla Oh, Vegas is always gonna be famous for that. But go out to the Catholic churches in the Valley and it is a booming population. The AOLV is quite stern and strict about Catholic couples being joined in Holy Matrimony in front of the altar and with all the rubrics of a Catholic wedding. Even the wonderful Quincenearas celebrated by the Hispanic community is devoutly Catholic as the debutante will be kneeling before Our Lady of Guadalupe as Ave Maria is sung.

Thank you so much! I'm really glad you like the city and I have a feeling you'll love it even more, once you get here. I live in Warsaw though, so won't be able to show you around during the second week of June. I will be in Kraków on Sunday, 23rd of June though and that's when I'll be recording an episode about the Jewish parts of Kraków with my brother (who is the best tour guide I know), if you're around then, you're welcome to join us :)

I love Polish pierogi! My question is...do Polish grandmas ever make sweet pierogi for dessert? 😁
@PolandwithElaАй бұрын
Yes and no :) They do make sweet pierogi but for lunch/dinner, not dessert, which would be pies or ice-cream. Pierogi with blueberries or strawberries etc… are some of my favorite lunch dishes and Polish grandmas make them so good…. But when you come for a visit we can eat pierogi every day! Even for dessert :D

I enjoy mushroom & sauerkraut pierogi. Great flavor with porcini mushrooms. Do you boil & fry Pierogi? Curious, what pairs well w/ pierogi? (ie bacon pieces, sour cream...?) Wine red/white? Cheers from sunny Florida
@PolandwithElaАй бұрын
I’ve never tried the porcini mushroom flavour- will have to do that. Any of the things you mentioned is fine to go on top. I personally enjoy fried/caramelized onion on top of the sour flavours and sugary cream on top of the fruit ones. When I eat my pierogi, I usually drink buttermilk. Polish kefir is fine too. But if you like to have wine with it, why not :)

Chinese and Polish? My goodness! Is Ruthenian the same as Ukranian?
@PolandwithElaАй бұрын
Ruthenian dumplings come from the (historically) Polish region of Red Ruthenia. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, some people started calling them Ukrainian dumplings, because of the misconception that Ruthenian (in Polish „ruskie”) is the same as Russian (in Polish „rosyjskie”). People sometimes use it interchangeably.

what's the best restaurant in Warsaw for pierogies?
@PolandwithElaАй бұрын
Thanks for the question. I will look into that. Usually the best dumplings are made by our grandmas so Poles don’t go to restaurants for dumplings that often. The one we ate at is called „Zapiecek” and it’s a chain of restaurants with traditional Polish dishes, among them dumplings (pierogi) of course. It’s certainly worth to check it out when you’re in Warsaw.

Not yet. I had to juggle few different projects at once, so had less time to focus on the channel. During the summer I will be doing a series about Warsaw and different kinds of places there, and maybe will manage to film the Jewish Kraków in September or October. But till then, check out some of my other videos - I show places like Kazimierz Dolny or Zamość, which are much less known but also very beautiful.
