a preference of mine has always been Rococo art as its aesthetic is so beautiful. Also Hanz Zatzka's work is much layer of course but is of the theme.

it’s true that it was acceptable for Aristocratic rococo men to wear pink, but it had not been previously. Rococo was a very feminine look altogether. You will see men in orange and red but rarely in pink in neoclassical paintings. For a while, In the 1920s many boys were dressed in pink as a ” light red“, red being seen as a masculine colour. By the 1940s pink was considered a solid feminine colour. Rococo pink was made particularly fashionable by a woman, Madame de Pompadour. You can buy rococo Rose pompadour pink nail varnish, it’s quite cute. Madame de Pompadour was often painted wearing the pale coral pink or a blush powder pink.

Interesting. I did not know about Madame de Pompadour making the color popular. That's good to know. I am not sure about the idea that "pink" was considered an unacceptable color for men to wear before Rococo.I have seen portraits from previous art periods where men are wearing what we would considered a pink color. Gentleman in Pink by Moroni is an pretty good example. I've also seen the color often used for clothing in Renaissance art for saints and angels. Maybe it just wasn't very popular for men? Or there is a gap far as language far as what they considered red/pink back then compared to us?

Oh, God. Not the “Racism” again.
@aprilgoeke6799 Жыл бұрын
What is wrong with pointing out the actual racist elements of a painting from 150 years ago?Just because there are some false flags when it comes to racism in contemporary media does not mean we should not cover blatant examples of it from the past. I myself often find SJW cries and CRT curriculum very suspect. Before racism was vogue to talk about, I made art covering the subject since I came from the Deep South- and yes, both whites and blacks sometimes did not act as they should. I had liberal professors actually tell me "Who cares?" with these works. 10 years later, now everyone cares but only because they were told they should.

Her stare is confident and not submissive. She's looking at the painter as an equal, as someone with power over her own life and situation, and not coy. How scandalous! 🤦

So in Madame X by John Singer Sargent they said they were outraged because the model did not look at them for Olympia they were bitching because she looked at them. Which one is it??? LOL!

Since Olympia seems to be laying on her garment and is wearing a choker and bracelet, isn't she considered nude rather than naked?
@CatholicK53572 жыл бұрын
I had the notion before that baroque art was more common for modesty in clothing versus the renaissance period. But I now wonder if that was more dependent on the individual artist and geographical area. Does anyone know?
@anon9772 Жыл бұрын
Hey Keith, from what I recall one big theory is clothing gives artists even more to work with in terms of creating movement. The cloth billows in the wind, folds around characters, can draw the eye, etc etc. If you look at some of the art you'll see what I mean. I'm sure there's more at play here as well like you mentioned!

is the painting Helen Recognizing Telemachus by Jean-Jacques Lagrenée also neoclassical art?
@aprilgoeke67993 жыл бұрын
Yes, I would consider it a Neoclassical piece. It has a classical subject matter, simple greek architecture in background, and it looks like the paint is pretty crisp and not painterly in style. The composition is also very controlled far as the placement and poses of the people in the scene.

There is a fresco there that has a statue that it's completely white, i have been hearing how all roman statues were painted ...
@romulusbuta93182 ай бұрын
True ! At least marble ones.......Maybe some white marble statues was about economics......or taste of the owner......Painting or refreshing colors on marble statues was one more money spending ☝️😏
