I had 2 djungarian(i hope the term is right) hamster some years ago. So sweet and they were even cuddling with me. But the most cuddly i ever had was a black goldhamster. He even slept around me. No i'm on the exact opposite site with 2 cats.

Can anyone explain please why they shouldn’t have a soft hide, my robo has a soft hide and I’m wondering will I take it out?
@stefrose22 күн бұрын
It is similar to fluffy bedding - there are a few reasons. One is that hamsters may chew the material/ shred it or take small bits of 'fluff' off it which can then be digested and worst case can cause intestinal blockages which are excruciating painful and result in death. Also the small fibers, depending on what they are, can cause respiratory issues - if the hamster wees in there, the build up of this can also cause respiratory issues and is unhygienic. If the fibers become loose, the hamster can get caught in them. It depends on the material as to which of these can be issues but it is just safer to avoid fabric. Thanks for watching the video and commenting 🐹

Because this happened to me twice: you’ll want a water bottle & stand just in case. I had 1 senior hamster who stopped being able to stand up to the water dish & became dehydrated. I had another hamster lose his ability to move his hind legs & needed a water bottle instead. I got the Niteangel bottle & stand & noticed the water spout is wider than pet store water bottles. If my hamsters are younger & healthy, they get water dishes.

It would have to be a very secure run. But robos often don't like going into a run anyway so it isn't necessary if they have a nice big enclosure :). Robos should live alone in captivity. I have a video on this also if that helps. Thanks for your comment ☺

I have adopted unwanted hamsters for over ten years. I recently adopted two robos housed together and are about 11 months old. I have monitored their interaction and have decided only after a few days of owning them to separate them even though they have two of everything. This is the second time I have adopted dwarf hamsters in pairs the first was two female hybrid dwarfs and they were separated within 24 hours of being here. Yet pet shops still encourage people to adopt dwarfs in pairs.

I have a massive village cage and we use the plastic tubes to connect between platforms. we have just added a smaller cage with as much bedding as possible and connected it with the tubes. We are not in a position to have an aquarium glass style 3enclusore at the moment although we do have a tropical fish tank but there are obv fish in it at the moment. So I don't see the problem in using the plastic tubes as connecting routes for hamster. I am confused as to the best type of bedding for burrowing as I am looking to create a type of large burrowing box due to the fact it is a wire cage. any suggestions welcome :) thanks

@@stefrose Thanks so much for taking your time to reply my question, really appreciate it :) My robo is very skittish, and territorial. Every time when I spot clean the sandbox/ toilet, it tends to not go back to the sandbox to urinate for a day or so. Having it urinate in its nest is the last thing I want. So I thought putting back some poos (or even a tiny dot of pee) may help for it to go back to the box to do its business. Also, I understand that their poos are good stuff and they do eat it too? Any thought on this? Thanks once again :)

This video is very interesting. My Roborovski actually changes where he sleeps in his enclosure quite frequently, he has two main nests he sleeps in; one in his Multi-chamber-hide and another in his “DIY peep shed”. I also don’t find food storage often, and if I do it’s usually just the remains of his seeds or insects. 🐹🤔

@Akomiimentioned5 ай бұрын
@@stefroseI think so!
@stefrose5 ай бұрын
As long as the actual floor space is 100x50cm a 40cm height should be alright provided you can provide deep enough bedding (30cm) without your robo being able to get out the top of the enclosure :) You will need to put lower bedding the side you want the wheel for e.g. and will need a lid such as a wooden lid with mesh so plenty of air can get in but your robo can't get out. I hope this helps. @@Akomiimentioned

Can i use wood shavings as a bedding? My hamster has been itching herself and sleeping always in a hide. Why does she do that?
@googleemail23685 ай бұрын
Aspen is a safe wooden bedding but paper bedding will be better if your hamster is itching herself. Your hamster is likely to be busy at night when it is dark and quiet. 😊
@stefrose5 ай бұрын
Yes as googleemail2368 says you can provide other bedding. Maybe try natural carefresh or similar? You say your hamster sleeps in a hide- if you add deep bedding 20-30cm they might burrow and sleep in their burrow. I hope this helps. Thanks for your comment😊

Is it still ok to have the small enclosures bc my hamster is used to it
@stefrose5 ай бұрын
Hi Thanks for your comment :) It depends on the size. The minimum is 100cm x 50cm x 50cm. A hamster will happily move into a bigger enclosure and will no doubt be happier for it. If you're worried about your hamster being stressed by the move, you can make sure a new enclosure has some scents from the old enclosure that he/ she will recognise such as some of the old bedding for e.g. I hope this helps.
