Thanks for the awesome video. This is a clone of the very popular ZigStar UZG but be reminded that there is a known issue with the 20230507 (latest) firmware for the P7 variant (as I have) where some of your devices may just drop off your network for no reason whatsoever. It's under investigation but I don't believe there is a fix just yet so I'd be wary of transferring all of my devices to this version. Hey, at least it easy to change back!

I’ve been having many issues with mine on Home Assistant & Zogbee2MQTT QT3.14 two different locations, and mostly after each monthly HA update, for a while I could simply rename a device and then name it back and in the original name and things came back, but after this last update things have been much worse, don’t really want to update every month but they keep adding great features lol so I gotta!

Unfortunately, you recommended buying the other version that contains AA batteries and this version does not have qc feature You told us it was just the difference in batteries I regret buying this version.
@camerongray1515Күн бұрын
My apologies, I hadn't realised this difference. Even without the QC feature, you can still accomplish a similar result by using the length test - if all of the pairs show a non-zero length you can be relatively sure that the crimp is good. The QC feature is potentially just slightly quicker if you're testing an absolute tonne of cables.

Why should I return the item I have and buy a near identical alternative with essentially the same hardware and software that would accomplish the same task equally as well as this device? I saw the SLZB-06 when I was researching these devices but simply preferred the form factor of the one I have here.

Isn't there a way to make a password for the Google account on Android TV? The video would suggest not despite the conversation I had with ChatGPT about this. There should be a way to remote wipe Android TV to protect your Google account. I remembered after creating my throw away Google account that the password doesn't get registered as correct or completely gets bypassed. It's like early internet all over again for Android TV with most apps either being behind a pay wall or needing some special controller I don't have.

I just plugged the sonoff usb into my proxmox server and forwarded the usb to a vm and from there into the Zigbee2MQTT docker container. But yeah over network has some advanteges as it needs no forwarding and can easily be physically moved somewhere else closer to your zigbee devices..

You might have already learnt this since this video came out a while ago but Mikrotik has a "Safe Mode" available when configuring devices. When enabled (toggle button on lower left in webfig, top left in winbox, Ctrl + X in terminal) it will revert any changes done during the time safe mode was enabled if the connection is lost. Once you reach the desired config you can disable safe mode and the changes will stay like normal. It has saved me at least a couple times from a reset and restore!

🤯 I didnt know such a device existed!! I've got a very similar setup, but using the TubesZB CC2652 P2 POE model, which has been extremely reliable and a great improvement to my setup (I also run everything else under Proxmox). @camerongray15152 күн бұрын
I haven't had the time to do either yet, but ideally I want to use the HA Add-on but would run it as a separate VM if the add-on gave me any issues.

This device is not running Linux. It's not even running a full OS, just a very lightweight software stack. Besides the other benefits (less software to maintain), this also means they start up VERY quickly and are very reliable with fewer things able to go wrong.

This seems to be a clone of the ZigStar UZG-01? I bought one a few weeks ago and it's indentical. The firmware is 100% the same as the one ZigStar develop, they've just changed the name at the top left. Either: 1. ZigStar are releasing their product under two model names, but not advertising this anywhere. Seems very unlikely. Or: 2. This is a complete and shameless copy of the Zigstar UZG-01, down to the same gerber files and firmware (only changing the model number in the firmware). You can see when you take it apart the ZigStar logo and UZG model number clearly printed on the silkscreen. This means that any money given to HamGeek takes market share away from ZigStar, and does not benefit the development of the UZG-01 or it's firmware in any way. Whether HamGeek have breached ZigStar's GPL v3 licence is unclear, but either way I think the right thing to do would be to recommend the original project, not a clone! That aside, the video is a great overview of the product, and I'd fully recommend the UZG-01 to anyone looking for a PoE ZigBee gateway

I have a 10g Ethernet with 5g/5g WAN connection so I wonder if the switch between the the WAN and the UDM could be a unifi aggregation switch.
@camerongray15156 күн бұрын
I can't see why not, although that does raise an interesting situation - with the switch sitting on the WAN side of the UDM, I don't think it would automatically be manageable through the UniFi controller. I haven't tested this but I suspect you'd need to also have the switch connected to your LAN to allow management through UnFi and then add a VLAN that includes all of the ports used for your WAN connection (the ports linking to each UDM and the port(s) uplinking to your ISP).

You mentioned at some point that you were using diffuser bulbs and you would expect further glare reduction if using "spotlight" bulbs. I've tried myself with much expectation but, even with the latter bulb, glare reduction is still not ideal, as the lower part of the can receives more light than the upper. This is because the can is cylindrical whereas the beam is cone-shaped - unfortunately they don't align well. Excuse my perfectionism, but I've gone for the JCC Fireguard Anti-Glare XL instead... // Sorry if I sound too negative, but the Integral EvoFire certainly has its own merits over the JCC Fireguard - such as the open design at the back (better heat management), the smooth edge on the bezel (which I found pleasing too), and consistent IP65-only rating (no IP20). It did take me quite a few weeks to make a decision though!
