Ummm I would probably be in the shade too LOL. Through the years we had three new homes built...but we used home builders. We did however do the painting inside and many other necessary things like cleanup, etc. etc. etc. It is so exciting you two are building a NEW HOME and doing an AWESOME JOB. Sending love and a quick healing to your pup. Poor baby so sorry it happened. I look forward to your next video FOR SURE!!! GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

How is the garden doing? Im curious to see how this works out. I thought the wood chips would deprive the gardwn of the nitrogen the plants need.

The garden is doing okay. We did not get compost like we ordered, we got “garden soil” which is compost mixed with top soil. So it was rather lacking. The plants are coming around now but are late bloomers due to poor soil. We will do a video update soon on the garden. Wood chips are actually high in nitrogen as they break down. It will add nitrogen to the soil not take away.

When doing the shingles (or whatever material you go with) please make sure to leave enough over hang. Our roofers did not and now the water runs behind the gutters :(. Have to redo the first 2 rows of shingles to fix. Changed the drip edge, and new gutters and that was not the issue :(

That’s a bummer! Sounds like a bad contractor. We are doing metal and it will hang over plenty.

Most of the equipment is rented so cost is minimal but adds up. We had years of hard work and saving money to pay for this.

Just found your homestead. I’m from TEXAS so it nice to see young people starting a homestead. Love to keep the homestead life alive. I’m 78 years young. So to see young people growing food and raising animals for food it brings back great memories of my family years ago. You are doing a great job and have accomplished a lot in a year. I would have built an outdoor covered transition of 10 ft wide between the House and barn..covered by the same trusses..and maybe 2 skylights ..to let Light through..

I’m just curious and/or ignorant of why the slab is poured after the structure was built? Is there a particular reason why? Keep up with the great work! I enjoy your posts!

Typically in post frame the building is put up first and then the concrete is installed. The posts sit on footer or a stem wall and concrete done after the building goes up.

Scaffolding here in the UK can have the height adjusted by using blocks of wood or adjusting the upright poles, especially on slopes or uneven ground. Also Especially on stoney ground. The taller scaffolding is adjustable, allowing you to level the various work levels on it. No falling off or wobbly ladders, you also do not have to stretch out to work which alters your centre of gravity. At the end of the day, it’s about safety surely.
