Nice. Looks like a large dataset. Was this captured in one go or merged somehow?
@DaveDFX25 күн бұрын
This was 3 drone passes. Dataset was not that large and coverage was not great cuz it was just a flyby for a client and not for scanning. Just tested this for fun.

Were you involved in the scanning and training process? The result looks super good. Well done. And your video is a piece of art. Welll done :)
@DaveDFX25 күн бұрын
Thanks! The scan dataset was courtesy of James Busby of 3d Scan Store. I processed the images and realigned the cameras in Metashape Pro. I trained the 3d gaussian splatting, cleaning, plus the animation in Postshot beta. Testing if photogrammetry data set would work for 3d gaussian splatting. A bit of a challenge dud to various things.

Great scan! Are you using Postshot to view the model or something else? Does this have any use case or you're just doing it for experimenting for now?
@DaveDFXАй бұрын
Postshot mainly for now since it's still beta. Other apps support for splats is not that solid yet. Blender plugin is not good. UE and Unity have better plugins. My use cases are for visualizations, advertising, and visual effects. I will combine Photogrammetry with splats for my projects.
@NickfiesАй бұрын
Doesn't really matter because they have a point seeding strategy. Read the paper
@DaveDFXАй бұрын
This initialize faster cleaner with less floaters in Postshot (beta). Also I can get a fast visualization ( takes like a minute only ) so i can save out a PLY and do a camera previz while the project is training. In the past, I have to wait hours for large environments to get a good preview. Eventually the splats prunes depending on the spat density settings. Newer beta is much faster and use less VRAM.

@DaveDFXАй бұрын
Yes, It's uses are endless and Splatting will be a new industry standard soon. I made a few passes at various levels and more focused on the areas of interests. No 360 here. Splatting needs more data than photogrammetry in general so I shoot mostly videos.
Yeah. In general but scammers for some items are raising prices to be slightly cheaper than retail. Also watch out for buyer's review with suspicious names. Can't believe Lazada did not take down the scam seller. KKBOY is the shop. Avoid and report.

As of now, it's only point cloud. There are open source research to mesh splats. github.com/francescofugazzi/3dgsconverter . github.com/Anttwo/SuGaR . If i need mesh, I would usually use the photogrammetry for now.
@shunleyzhangАй бұрын
so, the dense one and the sparse one finally reach nearly same quality? the only benefit to use dense point cloud is it converges faster? and I find in the final part, editing floaters is extremely important😂
@DaveDFXАй бұрын
Yes . Dense is just faster and uses more memory. Both sides will self prune eventually depending on splat settings. I use this for quick preciz.floaters here cuz the data set was not that good in coverage.

360 cameras is great for environment work. Fast to capture. I have insta 360 X3. A bit on the lower resolution side for me though. Used Insta 360 RS One inch too. Most people render out rectilinear views and then do the camera alignments. We are waiting for a native solution for importing 360 footage. Reality capture and Metashape can process 360 but we cannot get that into postshot at the moment. Personally I am favoring a mirrorless with Sigma 180 Fisheye but thats out of reach for most people.

Insta 360 flow gimbal can be used with iphone for high resolution 360. Have a look. Only issue is that it takes about 1 minute per panorama. It shoots around 19 photos and stitch them together.

Do you remember if there was traffic on the roads when you splatted this? I'm curious if splatting crowded areas will give negligible noise.

Traffic is around. You will get artifacts or ghosting for those areas. You need to paint out the objects or mask if you don't want to see them because the gradient descent algorithm uses the source images to train and get the ground truth. Or you can fix it later by "patching" from another area.
