Great video 👍🏼 I've recently crashed an MX-5 Lots of hard to reach welds needed. And more importantly less heat the better. It's not structural so I'd prefer brazing. It's thin steel panels. Please can you advise what brass rods would be best? And what gas too? Thanks

In masters of crack repair, brazing is the better option, because the it will fill the hairwidth cracks and pinholes, which are otherwise impossible to see. Here's my: m.kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q6yCpLGGzJ65Zmg.html

How do you make the paste from the powder ? Just add a little distilled water and stir ??
@davids16813 ай бұрын
Erm, that's MAPP gas, not propane - which would be significantly less hot. The MAPP as demonstrated actually worked fine, per my expectations, though it's not available anymore, at least in the USA. (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ja17l8aY37qvqKs.html shows the yellow tank and MAPP label.)

The main difference between welding and brazing(soldering) is melting. In brazing(soldering), metal producers heat up the metal to be bonded but never soften them. In welding, metal producers melt the base metal. visit our channel to see more videos about the brazing

Mine didn't melt like that at all, despite getting it cherry hot red as well, I even tried two different torches at once. Could it be not enough flux? I was using coated flux rods.

Brazing is the method of choice for thin metals (<2mm). With welding you just burn holes in these.

Excellent vid. The use of MAPGas is great as well. Helps me realise that I do t need an expensive oxy setup. Question though. Can you braze close to the original site without melting the first one? I remember hearing (apocryphally) that the composition of silver solder changes meaning it needs a higher heat once its set?
@mikehindley38 ай бұрын
Some solder manufacturers make alloys with various melting points specifically so you can do multi-stage braze operations on things like boilers. It is very possible to melt (and ruin) existing joints when brazing on new features.

I need some advice, how would you suggest someone silver braze a stainless steel ferrule on to a stainless steel keg? I'm trying to do what is shown in the video posted on the goodwelds channel "Tig welding 304 stainless 4" tri clamp fitting in ABS brewing fermenter". I'm not a tig welder, but I have brazed before. I'm thinking about cutting the hole so the ferrule doesn't fall through, but rests on a lip. Would it be better to braze it on the inside out or from the outside in? How would you do it? Thanks for any suggestions. Cheers.
@precisionarc Жыл бұрын
5 months and no reply, imagine a company putting out a video and ignoring peoples comments, no way to do business. Did you get this ferrule welded or brazed yet? My thoughts concerning brazing is how will you hold it in place? Heating this up to temp the flux will allow parts to move around. Also with stainless, especially a thin wall keg can overheat fast and if the flux overheats the filler won't flow, I would TIG it, but then that's what I do. Best regards
@snappingbear Жыл бұрын
@@precisionarc I did silver braze it successfully following the instructions of Planet Moonshine's "Converting a beer keg into a home distillation boiler" though I agree tig is the best way to do it.

I the difference between bracing and soldering was a bit unclear. So far i found a statement telling the the only difference is the temperature (soldering < (450 deg Celius < brazing)
@RandomGuy911 ай бұрын
Yes its very similiar. But soldering isn't allowed for gas pipes because if there is a fire the soldering would just melt. I soldered whenever possible because you don't need a big oxygen bottle but just a small red one (acytelyn?) and it was easier when soldering copper pipes. But some tubes need brazing. Also heating pipes here by law.
