I hear you, bro. Way to stand up for us Sportster riders! I rode Hondas for 40 years, so I know all about motorcycle stigma! lol. Last week I bought a 2013 Sportster XL1200C and don't care what anybody says about it. It looks fantastic, sounds great and rides great. My Honda Magna would've eaten this Sportster up top end, but the Sportster's got some pep. It was almost a daily occurrence to get up to 80-90 mph on the Magna, kinda just to get the blood flowing. I haven't had this bike over 75! Fifty-five on this bike feels like 75 on my Magna. The weight is better distributed and the sound and powerful buzz of the Sportster makes it a better, much more fun ride. The lighter weight and smaller size is perfect for me at 75 years old, 5'9" and 145 lbs. About 99.9 percent of my riding is going to be local. I don't need anything more than what I got and I'm loving every minute on this bike.

I have a XL1200 and a FXST 107. I like both. For touring with my wife we take the FXST and for riding to work I take my XL1200 because it is more convenient. I'm terribly tired after work and glad that the XL1200 is easier to ride.

Question, does cutting the struts void the warranty? Only thing stopping me right now from cutting.

I passed with a perfect score today :D I watched some of your vids few days ago, very happy about it. I would've been fine passing with points missed but, maybe it was more laid back than yours lol, they may've sliced some of that nervousness by calling the "Test" the "Next Practice", but everyone did pretty well compared to my last time taking it in 2015, I failed along with a chick lol, was my very first time riding a motorcycle, got 22 points, not sure what went wrong besides everything, countless stalls, MSF changed a bit since then, and believe I dropped the bike which may've been 21 default idk lol. But last year I bought a new automatic and drove over 800 miles, without my MSF done, though I technically did take it before anything, it's a bit nerve racking if it's the first thing you do, because there's less confidence in taking the hit one day, and sharp turns in the box on a big machine, I actually got on one of the bigger bikes while I only rode a lil navi since I do want a cruiser after all, and it was worth not cheaping out on a grom lol, very fun experience. My main fears were being unable to get sleep, I hardly slept on day 1 with all that nerve, then I crashed for a good nights rest lol.. that's another problem back then I bought animals day 1 cuz there was a pet store I never visit and I had to educate myself on them and no time to sleep/learn. but, i'm a more serious driver now and all so :) it's all good, I still recommend some motorbike experience on a small one before the MSF just because it's a little expensive to take the course but only if you're careful, i've not even popped a wheelie lol feels like a financial risk more than anything.

Do you have any kind of video footage of how you attach the wiring harness to the extensions? Does Burley send you any kind of info on that? Great video thanks.

I owned one, was almost killed on it by a soccer mom. Anyway, some things: It SUCKS on the highway. Top speed of 80 mph. Great for putting around town. Front tire has NO grip so if you turn right on gravel you can expect to wipe out. Get upgraded wheel/tires asap. Also make sure you get on with ABS. It should be mentioned if you are over 5'10 and 200 lbs this bike may be too small for you. In this price range, check out the Honda Fury: 1300 CC, big fat tire, looks cool right out of the box., super reliable. Wear your gear and ride safe!

Sportster stigma does not exist. Only propagated by bagger bro TV Nonsense. Ive never met a single person rag on me about my sportster. Except for aport bike riders. I had a sport bike rider rag on me for a sportster, but that dude was a lame ass loser so his opinion was that of a loser.

Theres alot to like about a Sportster. For starters you get a light, nimble motorcycle which delivers reliable power from an Evo engine. The exhaust shares a true Potato-Potato sound as it idles along, and at speed it smoothes out for an enjoyable ride. Sadly, there are some negatives also which include a tight riding position if your approaching six ft in height, a suspension which needs some attention, a small gas tank which limits your range and passenger accommodations which are best enjoyed on a short trip. However, some will say even the negatives can be turned positive with the right frame of mind. Re: The Sportster provides you the opportunity to modify the bike to fit your needs and the smaller tank gives reason to enjoy a break from the road for a snack and restroom.

I own a few big twins. My daily ride to work bike is a Sporty with the 1275 conversion. 134hp on the engine, but if that's not enough there's another 30 shot of nitrous. Nobody calls it a girl's bike after they have to pay me because I just smoked their busa.

It's a real bike from 70 years ago. It may have fuel injection and abs now, but sportsters suck to ride. Eric Buell did what he could for the frame and engine. You can't fixed out dated crap and thinking. Why would anybody put a beginner on such a piece of hit. It turns like the antique it is. Just like most of the Harley owners. And here come the excuses. There are so much better bikes out there. My wife has a sportster. For the price of a used sportster you can get a new bike that works and drives like a bike made in this century. Personally they are an over priced vibrator and the handling sucks. Not a fan of the gynecological harley seating position either. Harley is so out of touch with the motorcycle market, but there clothing lines are doing great. Saying a sportster is a girl bike. Have they ever rode one? I would rather have my wife on something that actually turns and not having to wait on the harley going grandpa slow around curves. Anything can be modified to become the greatest thing ever. Which is exactly what one must do to have a sportster that does modern motorcycle things like turning.

Went from Berlin to London and back on a 883 Sporty (25 y old one). Only problem: the plastic air filter housing breaks due to age an backfire. If you don‘t mind the vibration, you can ride any distance on it …

Great video, thanks! I'd like to point out they the stopping evaluation isn't defined at 14 ft... it depends on your speed. You are timed between line A and line B... and the graded stopping distance is based on that time.

Anyone who hates sportsters because they don’t consider them a real Harley has an inferiority complex. A real bike rider rides because of the love of freedom , not to present an image of themselves as a badass. The sportster is the original “hot rod” of the Harley Davison company, starting in 1957, stripped down, totally customisable. I love my sportster, in heavy traffic nothing better, lightweight, and flickable.

MSF Coach here, two things you are saying that will ensure people fail on their BRC skills test. For Eval 3 the speed has to be between 12 and 18 MPH, not 10. 10mph on second attempt will award max points. And you are timed to assess your speed and your standard stopping distance at that speed bracket. At 18mph, we expect you to stop no further than 20 feet to demonstrate good stopping technique. For your speed the standard was 15 feet. For someone coming at 12mph is 8. So saying 15 is the target distance will force ppl over 15mph to slam on their brakes and ppl close to 12 to not worry and get points for overshooting their standard distance.
