I can kind of agree with him on one level, but I think the problem a lot of news and comedy places is Trump has totally dominated the media landscape. What he has done over 8 years is so shocking, so outrageous, just an insane amount of craziness that has fundamentally shifted american politics and broken some of its already failing institutions. Thats hard to ignore and so hes been constantly thrown onto the front pages. A lot of these comedians have picked up on it and done the same, but they were always partly political. Late night comedy often has a bit of political comedy, or a lot. The problem is Trump has dominated political discourse because hes just such an unbelievably unique (in a bad way) figure. If they want to maintain their political humour, they have to keep relevant, and Trump has been relevant all these years. Hopefully if he goes to prison he can finally shut up and the news wont obsess on him and focus on the next totem to tout at americans.
