He was by all accounts a actual smart guy maybe genius, I know he has a degree or two but no he tended to play the idiot or more of a common man because that the best spot for a comedian. Be the smart comedian and you risk alienating part of the crowd, by playing the loveable idiot oaf he was able to reach a far wider crowd. And he did this without giving in and being a dumb comedian which shows he was a master of his craft and smart as hell. There are some comedians that are smart as shit and play the idiot oaf but rather then using smarts to craft jokes that are a blend of smart and dumb that have layers for everyone to enjoy they go for the easy pickings and just become a dumb comedian (doesn't mean they are bad comedians some are quite good but they could've been better)

Went to his next show, Dark Side of the Moon album, mostly, another great album. Turned it into an anti-Trump show, and my dad and I couldn’t have been more disappointed. I actually really liked Seth. He is very cerebral and not for everyone. But he, like the rest of late night, switched from comedy to hate, and that is as unfunny as it gets.

Seth who? Oh, yeah, I remember now. Is he still on the air? I wouldnt know. I stopped watching late nite "comedy". Early to bed, early to rise now!

The only time I liked him is when he and Amy Poehler did the news segment on SNL. He's just awful now...but still better than the clowns they have doing it now.

He is not underrated. He is just not that profitable. Also, other comedians see stand up as a step on their carreer, not norm. He likes the art form. I think he is where he wants to be.
