+Kenneth Morgan it is not that bad when you think of it. Its trigonometry and Range/Time/Speed. You can even if you want make a full solution without target. if the torpedo takes 22 seconds to reach the target course. Find out how far the enemy goes in 22 seconds. (you can double if you want.. usually i do it for at least a minute) if it say 400. then set a mark 400 before your 90 angle. so when you shoot. the ship will run straigh in front of your torpedo without any aiming whatsoever. its very effective for stealth attacks since when calculation are well done you can set another mark wich i call the death counter and set a timer before firing and literally fire blind and hit.

aproach them on flank speed and you are doomed, you are going to be making so much noise with your engines he can hear you even further away. Try to not aproach closer than 1000meters and only raise you periscope to see what you need then lower it immediatly, dont keep it up for extended time duration.Periscope is used like a yo yo, up and down, up and down :)

lupahole Thanks for the tips. After some experimentation I found that approaching at flank initially was fine, but far out I would submerge under the thermal layer and go all ahead standard. This enabled me to get into position within 1000m without being spotted. I also managed to get pretty good at dodging sub hunters after I torpedoed their ships. I see all it really requires is silent running and use of the thermal layer.

DantehMan You may want to employ silent running when approaching where destroyers or sub hunters are and drop below thermal layer as you said. Keep in mind that while in silent running mode, you cannot do repairs or reload torps. So get where you need to be, wait, rise to periscope depth, raise periscope, fire, do a 180 and fire some more, and drop as low as you can. If you plan on just escaping at this point, you can leave silent running on unless you take damage. If they get near you, fire a couple of decoys and change course slightly and you should be good. I never come in close at more than 1/3rd speed (around 2-3 knots; the idea is get there first so you can be silent).
