I once had a cat who did NOT want to be placed in a plastic cat carrier. Needless to say, after 15 unsuccessful minutes I looked like shredded wheat, with scratches all over my body. Randy Lewis is the cat, and I feel for any guy who tries to put him in a box.

It's weird, sometimes Randy Lewis looks a little tippsy like he's had one too many beers. Probably just wants to groove to the merry-go-round waltz music. No matter, he was a beast.

For all his success in wrestling he's just a shameful coward liar in the end... The brow beating insinuations & denying justice for those poor guys who were sexually assaulted makes gym a nothing in what's really important... Trust & integrity..

So great to see Neanderthal Jordan outclassed and outmuscled. He may have had impressive OHSAA and NCAA records, but he was one ugly ass wrestler. His style as an elected official is like his wrestling. While relentless, it's not pretty, it lacks class, and when faced with top quality opponents, not winning.

One was an Olympic gold medalist the other, not so much. Jordan couldn’t win at an international level. His folkstyle was good(Americans made this style up) but his international(freestyle) was horrible.

Very well put. He looks like a crab on the mat, and not in a good way. Primitive wrestler compared to Lewis or Smith.

It’s crazy how bad wrestlers were back then seriously brands looks like a junior in high school with that technique and positioning I don’t think they would survive this day and age of wrestling hence why every greats kids kind of suck in comparison to their fathers except David car so far

You dont know much about wrestling then, if thats your assessment. Maybe one of the dumbest comments yet and why not one person agrees with you. FYI, the sport evolves, the rules evolve, the techniques evolve, the nutrition evolves, the moves evolve, the training evolves, the conditioning evolves. I mean, you couldnt even get the easiest part right...his name. Its David Carr...not "Car".

I was a student and wrestler for Sturgis, SD. a few years younger than Randy. We had an amazing wrestler in Randy Lewis’s weight class, but Randy easily pinned him in the 2nd round. Our whole team really respected Randy Lewis. I remember Randy’s Sophomore year in high school, he went undefeated the entire year all the way through to the state championships!! By the way, my brother Gary and I were at the Rushmore Plaza Covic Center that day to witness Randy pinning his Russian opponent. We were part of the reason that behind all the crowd noise!! All the dust got shook out of the rafters that day!!! Randy was forever endeared to the Black Hills community!!!

I was there for that meet. The Rushmore Civic Center was packed with 5000 fans and when Lewis pinned Alexeev, the place erupted like you can't believe. I also saw a rarity - Ivan Yarigan got beaten badly by Larry Bielenberg. Yarigan was a God who just didn't lose. This video doesn't do it justice.

So sad to see all the black wrestlers booed off the mat by the racist fans in 1982. Oh Im sorry I missed that. They got bigger cheers than the white guys. You got to love wrestling, two people by themselves on the mat with nobody to help and you either get your hand raised or you are defeated. But the combatants always have a healthy respect for each other. Would have loved to have seen that! Monday,Carr, the Schultz brothers and a nice hvywt match. Keep up the content! Love it!

Unbelievable talent for a 5 team tournament. The early 1980s might have been the best period of college wrestling ever. By my count, there were 6 future Olympians in these finals: Carr, Monday, the 2 Schultzes and the 2 Scherrs and Metzger was a World medalist. Iowa State, Oklahoma and OSU finished 2nd, 3rd, and 4th at that year's NCAA tournament behind Iowa. Metzger, Carr and Dave Schultz finished 2nd in the Big 8's but later claimed 1st place at the NCAAs. Thanks for sharing. It would be great to see the actual Finals matches.

Randy came to our practice at North Jr high to encourage us. We did takedowns. He took down the entire team, but he kept his hands behind his back. You would shoot and he would spin around on you before you knew what happened. That was 1976, I believe. I never forgot that.
