As a kid with an undiagnosed autoimmune disorder, with doctors that didn’t believe me (and accused my mom of Munchaussen’s), in the school’s gifted program, I had to to learn how block it out. It kept me from being locked out of the private school and held back. It kept me from going back into foster care after being adopted, because specialists didn’t want to believe a little girl. It made it so my whole childhood was more than just memories of being sick in bed. But I have nearly died before because I wrote off a multi point bowel perforation and early sepsis until my fever ended up being over 104 and I couldn’t walk. So I am trying to unlearn it now. I have a diagnosis. I have restructured my life so I can have an income without working for someone else so I can make my own schedule and take care of my own needs. I have a husband who can cover my half of the bills when I’m laid up for months. I don’t need it anymore and it does more harm than good. Not just the obvious ignoring the warnings. I cannot trust my own judgment of what is or isn’t a problem so I still gaslight myself into not seeking medical attention because I wouldn’t have gone to the ER for something years ago, and wrongly assume nobody else would. I have to run it by friends ‘wound you see a doctor with these symptoms’ even when I’m sure it’s nothing and usually the answer is yes. I still wait too long because when doctors’s offices say ‘do you want us to see if we can move up your appointment’ I say ‘that’s fine’ when I should say yes. Doctors see me under-react and don’t take it as urgent when I calmly say ‘it feels about as painful as a broken bone but a little more sharp’ instead of trying to guess the number regular people would give. I get told I’m a badass for how I handled the bowel perforation and what turned into septic shock. I hate being congratulated on my ability to gaslight myself. I am way more impressed by people assertively insisting a legit problem is as serious as it is in a world where many patients, namely women, are dismissed as exaggerating for attention. If I wanted that I’d wear a bathing suit to the mall or lie about being an astronaut because you can do that for free and it’s easier, but I don’t actually like when the attention is on me. I want it on what I say and what I do, but never on me, especially in urgent crises. A doctor doesn’t cure by saying ‘I’m sorry you are dealing with this’ but by acting on the issue.

Hi! Thank you for the informative video! I’m currently 8 months pregnant and I started swimming again in my 6th month of pregnancy because of my pelvic pain. Now I found out I have DR and it’s making me paranoid that swimming is making it worse. Do you think I should stop until after birth? Or do you think I should only do certain types of swimming? Any advice would help! Thank you

sorry, but you are explaining too much. I'm not interested in the educational part or anything other than what to do to heal. Living with this and trying to find good yt videos to help me with it, I've wasted hours, days listening to people using technical terms and the latin names for muscles and anatomy, and detailed explanations about every aspect of the matter. All of that stuff is bullshit. Just tell me what exercises/positions/movements to do and I will do them. I just want to heal, not learn.

I never had diastasis recti until I followed the stupid guidance in “Starting Strength” by Mark Riptoe and followed his useless and damaging guidance on the Valsalva Maneuver. 52 years of working out wrecked by Mark Riptoe and his stupid book. If you haven’t read the book, regardless of the fake reviews and saying how great it is, don’t. Unless you want to read 40 pages on the scientific and engineering approach to a bench press or a squat or overhead press. I’m sure that he’s probably correct in the book but he explains, in great detail, how to build the watch when you just want to know the time and even with all of that explanation, cannot clearly get across to a dip-$hit like me how to do the Valsalva maneuver. That’s messed up and messed me up. For reference, the Valsalva maneuver is simply tightening your core before lifting. Stop.period. Mighty Mark says to take a deep breath, hold it and push outwards, thus creating diastasis recti where none existed. Thank you Mark Riptoe for nothing except for diastasis recti.

I have this, in my 40s now, but got it in my early 30s, I remember the exact moment, I was riding a large (250kg) motorcycle and as I came to a stop the road surface was uneven and I misplaced my foot, the bike started to fall but I caught it and as I was straining with the weight pulling it back upright I felt this really sharp pain in my abdomen and then noticed the bulging when sitting up from bed etc. I thought I had a hernia, so I saw a gastroenterologist a few years back and he said it was Diastasis Recti and that nothing could be done. He did say there are some (what he considered to be) cosmetic surgeries that stitch back the abdominal lining but they routinely fail and it comes back, so he wouldn't recommend doing it. I'm interested in the program but would like to know what is your success rate of repairing the abdominal wall by using this routine? How many men bought the course and how many reported that their abdominal wall is now repaired (no more bulges etc)? Thanks.

I'm a 19 year old male who has done calisthenics and lots of exercise most of his teenage years. In the middle of the night in December I woke up to a terrible pain (felt like a string in the middle of my abs, as if it were going to snap.) I went to get an MRI (this is 3 months later, I have stopped working out due to the pain) And was told I have Diastasis Recti (18mm) and this just confuses me! I felt as if the strength in my core should've been more than enough to prevent this! When I was a kid I already got this weird string snap feeling before but it would go away after 2-3 days, its been months now and I can still feel sensitivity in my bellybutton, any working out brings it that sharp pain again and then I feel like I can barely move my abs (leaning back) and become bedridden for 2-3 days in tons of pain. I am in the worst shape I've been in my life now and I want to know what could've happened, and what I can do to fix it. Thank you.

Is there a way to work with someone who can make sure we are doing things correctly so as not to make diastasis recti worse (for a man) or cause any other problems? Also, I am going through other medical problems too and may not be able to do a lot of the exercises and may need to ask questions along the way. I need a program working with someone instead of watching videos and figuring it out on my own. Do you offer anything like that?

I was just in a class and noticed this ‘tube’ type protrusion when doing sit-ups under my ribs to my belly button. It isn’t there initially then suddenly appears. Never seen this before. Also had terrible back pain 6 months. Done this test and I am pretty sure this is it! What do I do to make it go away I’m in the U.K.?

Wow! Iifted weights through my 20's and into my 30's.Plus I did a lot of running and core work. Then I started driving vans and trucks for a living in my mid 30's but still did a fair bit of lifting. I am 59 yo now and people think I am fat because if this Diastis Recti, my stomach is rock hard but I have put on two shirt sizes the last 5 years. Crazy stuff!

Easy to explain why I got it. My trainer had me doing plank exercises with my forearms on a ball for an ab workout. On my third extension (rolling the ball away from me) on the ball it felt like my guts were falling out and that was that. I ruined my stomach by trying to train my stomach.

Amazing! I have believed exactly what you are saying here. I have been plagued with back problems and abdominal bulging. As an adult I worked moving heavy objects and freight. The doctors just always told me I didn't have a hernia. I have had this bulging since I was a skinny child. No matter how many crunches or abdominal exercises I did, it never improved. Now I focus on exercises for my transverse and obliques and my back pain is lessening. This information is music to my ears. Thank you!
