Great review! Have you found any DIY solutions to the rattle like possible adding foam anywhere? Thanks. I am debating if i want to get this vs other handle bar bags, but the rattling might get on my nerves on a 50mi+ ride 😂

Thanks for checking out the video. I have not tried to dampen the rattle but I am willing to go down that road. What style riding are you gonna be doing this on(road or gravel)? Is it just the noise while riding or will you be adding an action cam to the top, and trying to kill that noise? I got a few ideas now, and want to try to kill that noise :)

@@T1EAdventures Hi! I will be doing mostly road riding without any cameras... for now 😬, but I am planning to do the almost century ride for Sea Otter next year and I just don't want to deal with any rattling if possible. Can't imagine riding close to 100 miles with that noise. Definitely post an update if you end up doing something about the noise.

Very nice build! I've had a '12 El Mar Ti with 80mm Reba for 12 years and just converted it to a monstercross with flared drops for all day adventuring to compliment my '11 Fargo Ti bikepacking rig. I just picked up a used '13 El Mar 2 to replace my old 26" steel SS. The rear wheel and hub needs a rebuild, but I'm looking forward to getting it SS ready. These are fun bikes.

Thanks! That is awesome! I would love to have a Ti Fargo, but currently using a steel El Mar and went with the Surly Moloko bars, and it seems to be pretty comfortable. Thanks for checking out the video, and Yes!! These are some fun bikes for sure! Cheers!

Hey, can you reuse wax you’ve already used and also does it matter the type of wax? Would beeswax work?
@T1EAdventures
@T1EAdventures Ай бұрын
Yes, you can reuse it, just make sure you are always dipping a clean chain in it. I have a 500g bag of Silca wax, that I have added to a slow cooker. I have waxed my chains easily 25-30 times (over a year and half) and still have more than half of the wax left in the slow cooker. I would stick to a more petroleum based wax, and not use bee's. Paraffin waxed used in canning foods would be a good starting point, but there are several companies that make bike chain specific wax that may hold up longer, and keep your chain around longer as well. Hope this helps!

You can get several 1000 miles from a newly waxed chain? I think Silca advises to rewax every 300mi or so?
@T1EAdventures
@T1EAdventures 3 ай бұрын
I can between the hot waxing. Every 150ish miles I use their Super Secret chain coating. It’s technically a waxing I guess, but I am not removing and dipping in hot wax for several thousand miles.

Yes I agree! You made me laugh - and I think that trainers are about balance - I live in Tasmania (41 degrees south) so for me, it is about training safely all year around. However, I train for IRL cycling tours - it keeps me fit enough to do those. It was an awesome tool to rehab from open heart surgery too!

Is this a pretty chill ride? Looking to get into gravel and get back in shape before I start hitting some of the more gnarly paths.
@T1EAdventures
@T1EAdventures 3 ай бұрын
I feel that its pretty chill. Its a 7 mile loop around the lake with only about 200-300 feet of elevation. The rest of the greenway is pretty flat until you climb up away from Salem Creek. So getting into town or over to Quarry Park, there is some climbing, but again, probably less than 100 feet in either direction. Salem Creek greenway is about 3-3.5 miles in one direction. Each of the branches off that into town or to the quarry are less than 2 miles.

Little mild detergent and some water typically gets any trail grime off. It does take a little elbow grease to scrub the canvas material. I purchased the black because I am lazy about cleaning things :)

Aren't gravel bikes just hybrid bikes with drop bars? For that matter, can't someone easily turn a commuter into a gravel bike with a better seat, wider tires and drop bars?
@T1EAdventures
@T1EAdventures 4 ай бұрын
I would say they are very similar since a lot of them are based off of MTB platforms. Because of that,in a lot of cases hybrids will have MTB drivetrain, making it difficult to put drop bars on it without changing out the whole drivetrain. You can get around that issue if you already have AXS wireless shifting.
@pawelmatyskiel
@pawelmatyskiel 4 ай бұрын
its just a road bike with wider tyre clearance IMO, or if you would just add a dropbar to an old mtb.... or just a old mtb with road bike geometry if you're having a flatbar. I had one and its also great

Don’t you get wax all over your floor on the trainer? I also can’t understand how videos on YT always show cleanish waxed chains before re-waxing them. Mine is always almost black and gunky, and so are my rear cassette haha
@T1EAdventures
@T1EAdventures 4 ай бұрын
I do get the wax shavings on my mat under my trainer but are easily vacuumed up with a shop vac. Since I have switched over to waxing, I have not had any black gunky build up on any of my bikes. Can I ask what brand of wax you are using?
