In the past, I erased a number of hard drives from old surplus/used computers. I found that some of took hours to wipe completely, and others maybe up to an hour. IT seemed that the older the drive was, the longer it took.

I have two western digital SSD’s that my ex gf smashed with a hammer bc she found pictures from 2012 of a girl i dated but never mentioned…yeah she broke the motherboard on both of them and smashed all the PC monitors too. I just rebuilt a new PC. But I really want to boot from my old hard drives man… I have YEAAAARS of apps and notes, and essays I wrote, my entire life was on there for the past 20 years. How about a ssd that is not the system drive, just an extra. When you delete info from the extra ssd does it delete the info to the system ssd drive or does it save the deleted files on itself? Thanks.

I want to be sure all of my deleted files are really deleted and not recoverable, so if my windows 7 ssd drive cmd says: DisableDeleteNotiry = 0 they are permanently deleted and not recoverable by any software? Thanks.

This does not address most use cases today, Laptops have modules baked in, or are difficult to take apart to access the SSD (Surface Laptop 1 for example). The easiest way, but certainly time consuming is to write and delete data onto the drive(s) multiple times, of course this new data needs to be benign, perhaps a 4k video or something.

Grampa gamer here: D- BAN, and white canyon and other ones don't work on ssd's. Only on sata hard drives. I use two different devices i have had for 3 years and wiped over 30 ssd's. One is called destruct pro. It is a large black usb device shaped like a big key. It wipes the ssd's in blocks. And does a D.O.D. short wipe. Another one i used is red key pro usb from england, but red key pro only lets you erase 3 ssd's and you have to buy it again for about $89. So i still have it, but it is locked. Amazon has destruct pro for apx. $49. But only use the pro version !!. Destruct has a standard version that is like d-ban. and will not wipe ssd's.

On windows if I use optimize and defragment on my ssd followed by running some recovery software, I'm still able to find some deleted files. Is this because I haven't given it enough time to run garbage collection?

Hi, I'm working on recovery from a non-working S10e for a client of mine, for which I not only have all original parts but donor parts as well to replace anything faulty. Right now, I've come to the conclusion that the motherboard has some type of fault involving power, but I don't have the capability to diagnose and fix it (as there are several very small modules responsible for controlling power distribution across the logic board for this phone). I was either going to opt for swapping the CPU & NAND over to a new board or attempt some type of chip-off recovery. Are there ANY pointers you could give to guide me in the right direction?

Hi Chris, is it possible now with Cellebrites new premium version to extract data from iphone 14 on ios 16.6.1? Cellebrite gave an update in early 2023 that they are able to get onto all iphone 14s with ios 16 but ios 16 was updated to the 16.6.1 version in september 2023 and it addressed some of the vulnerabilities.

Just use an angle grinder, cut it nearly in half, or drill 6 holes in it. Stop faffing about.

if you're intentionally trying to make recovery of files impossible on an hdd/ssd for resale reasons. would overwriting the disk with random data (basically filling the disk until there's no space left) completely destroy any previous data it may have had?

So if it is in the trash, it isnt classed as deleted? Its just in a queue to be deleted 30 or 60 days later?

I have a Moto E7 phone and I forgot the password. It contains uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters. Around 95 characters and 15 to 20, probably 16 digits. The number of attempts would be 95^16 = 7,958,661,109,946,400,000,000,000,000,000. But you said 6 digits would take up to 3 months, so 16 digits would take around 8 months, right? In my case, there are many variables.
