Several photographers are creating a plague on the Internet. They seem shy of saying what it really is. They all too often mean monotone artistic photography. In reality it is no more fine than colour. People are entitled to prefer monotone so why not admit it instead of suggesting something it isn't? It certainly isn't better than the richness of colour.

but i want the opposite, every brush i have has this weird fade coming out and it looks so offputting.

A. lot of us don't use Photoshop. I don't do Adobe, but Affinity Photo gets the job done with no subscription.

In one of Blake Rudis’ courses he asks the question “What is your biggest issue or negative thought toward attaining or accessing your artistic vision?” My answer: Age. 67 years have expired, you can freeze a moment in time with a photo, but you can’t exist inside with it.

Jim, I have enjoyed your artistic vision for several years. These days I was editing a portrait whose color never ended up satisfying me, so I remembered this video of yours and converted the color image to black and white, following, as closely as I could, the steps outlined by you. The next comment is very near, but nonetheless, it is valid: I obtained a worthy result. If you are still able to see how your instructions permeate your audience, let me know where to send you the before and after of this edition for your observation.

hi, i don't want my brush size to stay the same. I want it to stay the same brush size as the last time I used it, and it should be constantly changeable. How can I get it to not get stuck with the same brush size? 6:09

One thing I can't figure out...why does your gradient map darken the image? As I understand it, the gradient map is supposed to be sampling the luminosity value and replacing it with whatever is on the gradient map for that luminosity...so shouldn't a default b&w gradient match the b&w photo exactly? It darkens mine too and I can't wrap my head around why.

I think that I see something even more specific in what you are doing, and saying. I see it in your shots. I understand that you have a vision of what the finished product will look like but you have a specific way of selecting, interpreting, and making a scene. Your vision is even more highly focused and selective than you know! (Perhaps you do know, but your viewers may not) Most every shot you shoot has high-contrast, specular, light. This is especially true in architecture and horses. There are very bright spots, high-key areas, very dark areas. This specific way of seeing, and what you want to have as a finished product, to some extent, explains why you tend to avoid color, or strong color. You even avoid intense color in your landscapes. You also seem to emphasize pattern and texture. It’s in the building and on the horses. Great videos, and, I agree that everyone needs to see a finished product as they shoot. Everyone also needs to know what they tend to do and why. What excites them. What do they see and, how to make that particular specific vision happen.
