Your point about the efficient units is really poignant - NH is the most stand out. Run Retreat and Charge Unconditionally on every unit and despite their defense being better this edition due to Anti-X not working on them and the Mortal wounds in the game going down, their points stayed really low. As for the army building - a lot of stormcast heroes cant be taken. a lot of knights cant be taken with Lords

After seeing how they changed the double turn mechanic with the underdog mechanic mixed in, it still made me think that double turning will still just be super strong. Because like you said, yeah maybe the guys taking the double turn can't score tactics, but it gives them a really good chance still to table the other opponent, which is basically better anyways

One of things about a double in 3rd is that players were still trying to use resources to achieve their BT during that turn which sometimes led players to not fully COMMIT to the shove of the double but now its no holds bar, SHOVE.

Ya they really don't wuite understand the game they've designed. I've always said, the double should give your opponent a buff. Just NOT turn 1. How hard is it to write that? Shouldn't be, it's just words. Like if for instance you take a double, your opponent is automatically the underdog that round. Regardless of points. That's a good start. You get the extra command point and the twist bonus. Being the underdog into 2 and then getting a double is a HORRIBLE design flaw. Absolutely terrible. There's big problems with the index. Big big problems. I'm a Destruction player and it just feels terrible that even heroes can't somehow hit better than a 4+ yet other armies like Fyreslayers, every is 3+/3+....how? How are dwarves hitting as well as elves, and also wound as well as Orruks? They're the same as Stormcast? Makes no sense. Bladegheists are another unit that like...3+/3+? With Crit auto wound? Shouldn't they have terrible stats if the entire army has Crit auto wound? It's so bad.

Well technically they do, its Nagash but aside from him. Thats not where the NH value comes from. Think of it this way, the game atm lost a lot of durability mechanics and armies gained rend overall imo. You have an army that doesn’t care about rend or the lost of durability due to their ethereal ability and from last edition they gained 20% wounds overall while a lot of other armies went down 10-20%. Just before you take into account NH output which got better thats a pretty big swing in power. Whatever algorithm they used to do points didnt feel like ethereal was properly counted.

Teclis for the most part can stay out of range of your opponent shooting minus maybe KO which atm is mostly nonexistent. While he stays out he can still summon “400-600” points of effective threats on the table everyturn. How do you score with that slow army? I played vs shooting and alpha strike/heavy cavalry with Khorne. It was a nightmare (0:4 score) also the bloodletters are cool and such, but the dmg is not that high compared to many other things(cheaper, faster) I struggled hard to actually kill deathriders, varanguard, knights n stuff. Also couldn't gain any bloodtithe because of this.
@NexUtInfinitus
@NexUtInfinitus 29 күн бұрын
@@olafolafsson2755 well the unfettered fury grants one khorne daemon unit a 3d6 charge so with their move that’s a 23 inch threat range just with the bloodletters, if you take bloodcrushers it’s 26 inch threat range. The bloodthirsters have a move of 12”plus whatever charge range you choose, skarbrand has a 26” threat range. So I’m not entirely sure khorne has mobility issues. You said you went against a shooting/alpha strike army but didn’t mention the faction? So I can’t really address your question. The only faction I know of that focuses heavily on shooting is kharadron overlords.
@olafolafsson2755
@olafolafsson2755 29 күн бұрын
3d6 charge is 3-18 inches. you can't reliably hope for a huge charge. Also deployment is tricky, because the screening with chaff doesn't work anymore (vs varanguard especially) opponent played Kavalos Deathriderns, varanguard and LrL. I think vs similar builds/armies like Khorne, can be quite a good match up. The 3d6 charges, murderlust and potential to grind the enemy to death come to use there. But "real" mobility like deepkin, slaanesh or tanky, strong cavalry in general seems like an issue. deployment, scoring, collecting blood tithe and actually killing those units can be hard. Bloodletters obviously deal high dmg but the numbers are not that impressive. Same with the Bloodthirster. Often times you can't just calculate with 20 letters. 12-15 is more realistic if not less. because of terrain, dead models and so on Just my experience with khorne. (4 games in real and 3 tts) (I and my opponents also were not a beginners just for perspective. This is not casual random gameplay in the local GW store. Intention is to discuss and/or share expierence. Not to explain how the game works or pretending to know everything)

On how much foot heroes cost, I think they had a totally different view on list building than the players have. They made foot heroes expensive because they thought being a hero was an *advantage* because it allows you to take more units without having auxiliaries. When in reality, being a hero is a disadvantage because it's an extra drop and needing more unit slots isn't a problem for anybody because even a 2 drop list gives you 9 potential units which is plenty for the vast majority of armies. The funny thing is the auxiliary mechanic is total surplusage that doesn't actually do anything because nobody would ever take auxiliaries even if they were free to do so, because again, they're an extra drop. Every edition GW sticks with the drop system for determining T1 priority, and then every edition they fundamentally undervalue how important low drops are. They just don't seem to really get it. If anything they've only made being low drop even *more* attractive than it used to be, by doing away with the ability to take extra enhancements in return for having higher drops.
@TheBarakDur
@TheBarakDur Ай бұрын
Thats a good point, they probably thought wow people will take heroes to unlock more unit slots but really only a handful of lists aren't going to care about drop count when the vast amjority will.
@assistantref5084
@assistantref5084 Ай бұрын
@@TheBarakDur It's odd to me that they were so far off from the players on this. I've written literally dozens of list so far, and in not a single one have I ever thought "oh no, I need to take another hero to give me more slots." But at least half the time I do think "oh no, I want to take another hero but it means another drop so I really can't." It's also another source of index inequity, because some indexes have very permissive "extra" hero options, while others are extremely restrictive. So you have armies that can take the 3-4 heroes they want and still be 2 drop, and then you have the armies that can't.
@rotm4447
@rotm4447 Ай бұрын
Its even more backwards than that. The big heroes like Mannfred aren't taxed and have omni-slots while the cheap ones that do less are and and have unit limits. Every list is going to look the same soon, just auto slamming Ellania, Shalaxi, Bastian, Belakor, Starmaster, Eidolon etc in a 2 drop. What does a Wight King have to cost to see play right now? From 160 to 80? Would that even be low enough? How about a Clawlord with his warscroll like it is. Like no thought went into this.
@assistantref5084
@assistantref5084 Ай бұрын
@@rotm4447 Yep, it's kind-of a mess tbh. The core rules seem very good this edition, but the contrast between them and the army building rules (and manifestation rules) is pretty dramatic. It's like half of the rules were written by one team and half the rules were written by a totally different team. It's weird to see so much quality disparity between different sections of what are nominally the same rules package.

btw. the discussion about the takebacks is not so much about the "takebacks" as much as it is about ignoring the Player's Code. The code asks you to remind your opponent about the rules they might have used incorrectly or forgot, especially if it's for their advantage. When your opponent forgets to choose an obvious benefit, you should remind them at the right moment to do it, so later in the game they can't choose something that is advantageus in that moment (unless you just flat deny it to your own benefit). Just 2 cents from someone with an eagle on his jersey ;)

As I mentionned on Twitter. I have not witnessed any of this personally at the event but now have heard contradicting narratives about some of the "talked" about examples this week. Honestly, Dan's original post was not alluding to anything regarding breaking the player code's. His original tweet was an image with his thoughts and it mostly talked about how he does not want the game to be about nickel and diming people on sequencing and that this type of behavior on both players at the table should allow some "take backs". I personally do believe in giving reasonable "Take Backs" but I do not expect it from my opponents and that in itself is problematic, in fact I believe its more problematic than clean gaming with no take backs. I would rather they be no take backs and just clean wargaming from both parties. I believe creating a culture of take backs is more likely to result in "weaponizing" (a term I see too often for this topic and its dumb) of that behavior because take backs are inherently at the mercy of perception of each player in what is reasonable versus not. A player will find it easy to take advantage of someone's good will versus taking advantage of someone's of playing cleanly. Also, love the jerseys!
@Mus7a
@Mus7a Ай бұрын
@@TheBarakDur Note, I did not refer to just Dan's original tweet taken out of context but the whole discussion that's unfolding in there, including some of the examples (of which I've witnessed one myself) where a "clean play" was just a facade to act in a manner that directly breaks the Player's Code to gain a benefit. It's good to have someone keeping it real with the 'takebacks expectations' as I do agree with your point, just not in the context of what is Dan trying to say ("there is a world where you can be firm but fair in the spirit of the game").

@Mus7a
@Mus7a Ай бұрын
@@olafolafsson2755 if it was for example a video game (an enviroment that organizes game mechanics for the players) it would ask you at the correct time to choose your benefit. That way the game is won by better decisions in it. Tabletop game's limitation is that players keep track of the game flow and thus it's both players responsibility to choose one of their options at the right moment. In this situation there is no opportunity for a takeback to happen (unless someone wants to change their choince, that's obviously out of line). It is supported by the Player's Code and it'a as much part of the game as warscrolls and core rules are and should be followed otherwise you're breaking rules of the game (just not the core ones). Takebacks as of someone wants to move a model back or to a different position, do things in a different order they already did etc. should obviously not be a part of high-end competitive games. There's a line there and it is quite clear IN MY OPINION.

@@TheBarakDur I'm a player from Belgium and have been in several conversations about the same subject. There's some grudging about how the process ,or lack thereof ,goes. Now first of all the Belgian team are good players, I know one of them and he's an outstanding person and really good player. Played against some in tournaments and they're nice people. While the team captain has said they're open to having practice days with the community they do very little effort themselves to get this on the roads, which I guess is understandable in a way since it has to come from both sides. If one's interested, they should invite them. We do plan on doing that. Other parts where there's probably some tension is how people don't know, nor is it really communicated how to apply. It's a group of people who play together, who's first to pay the fee to the organization and claim the title of team Belgium. Aside from, hang/ play with the team, there's no documentation or information given on how one could start on the road to join the team. They stopped their qualifier tournaments a few year ago, there's no ranking or anything. It's a far cry from how some other countries make their teams, looking for the best players (and also those that get along, team spirit is very important) or how they have huge tournaments set up as a recruitment pool like France. They're also all from the French speaking part of Belgium, which could also rub people the wrong way sometimes, and I've heard but can't confirm because I don't know half the team, that 3-4 of their players were from France for this worlds, which is a shame with the size of the Belgian community. Looking at their introductions on social media, I've haven't seen half the team at any Belgian tournament before. And I go to plenty. Now Walloons & Flanders is also a politically loaded subject, but I feel it's the lack of clear rules, communication, participation, community raising, appearances even (They barely go to tournaments in Flanders) that gets people riled up. We can't identify with them or be behind them because they're unknown to us. The only cheering I see is from French speaking clubs. And on a personal note, I don't care about French or Dutch speaking, or Walloons and Flanders, I go to tournaments on both sides and I love playing at them. The people are great, the games are fun. But I'm a sucker for fairness. I think more effort should be put in, everybody should be able to apply or have a know how on what steps to take or requirements to fulfill. Fair chances for all is what I stand behind. A I'm 100% certain that with more community raising and involvement done by the team, Belgium could produce so many good players. It's often said , you're only as good as the people you play.

@@TheBarakDur why does talking to the captain matter though since he cannot be swapped for not being fair ? I am from a country that we couldn't even make a team because the previous captain stopped but hated everyone playing the game and kept the ring so none could go until it "expired" just to mess with everyone. Where I'm getting at is that, is that the captain system is non existent and the root for many of the problems for the vast majority of the countries :)

Most people might not know this and this is very well articulated anywhere but if a coalition of players from a country feel that their captains are not doing a good job at selecting players that are representative of their countries. They can work with the AoS Worlds Admin & Ref team to have the captain spot for that country be pushed to someone else. We of course prefer if those situations be resolved by the individual country communities and we would of course try to mediate this outcome first.

If enough players from Belgium reach out in unison to the AoS Worlds admin staff and refs team, we might be able to try to understand if there is a solution to this with the respective captain but we are always going to try not to invervene as much as possible unless of course it is apparent that the team is not actually representing that country.
